A great start to the drone hobby. I just discovered your TH-cam channel today and was surprised at how quickly you’re progressing. I’ve been flying drones for a few years now and currently own a Mini 3 Pro and a Mavic 3. I can still vividly remember the very first time I flew over water. That was so stressful, knowing that if something went wrong, the drone would be truly gone. Care Refresh didn’t really calm me down much in that situation. Here’s a tip - or rather, two things well worth to try. I often photograph with AEB series. This leads to greater dynamic range, especially since the sky in the final image is exposed differently than the landscape. In my opinion, as a non-/amateur photographer, this results in very beautiful shots. The images then need to be merged during post-processing using software. Additionally (though this might just be a personal preference), I am still fascinated by hyper-/timelapse recordings to this day. This function is readily available in the DJI menu. It consumes a lot of battery, but when clouds suddenly start moving or a sunrise/sunset becomes visible in just a few seconds, it’s (at least for me) a very relaxing experience.
Well done. Brilliant video 😊 Don't forget to keep your batteries warm in colder weather and worth having some silica sachets in your case or drone bag to stop camera fogging up 😊
Thank you very much! Yes I tend to keep my batteries in my coat when I can so they are warmer. That is a good idea about the silica sachets, luckily enough my camera didn’t fog up this time 🙂
I"m totally lost when it comes to camera settings and I'm trying to learn more about that. I just enjoy seeing content that we can't see unless it's from a drone. Flying is just so much fun and seeing amazing views makes it that much better. Awesome footage.
enjoyed watching your second flight. i too bought a mini 4 pro and am loving it. just released a bit on the Grace Arnold lovey dovey christmas video. Just got back from a month in Cornwall flying every sunset and sunrise possible for November. it certainly is addictive... im not sure if its slightly the fact that there is 1000 pounds bobbing around in the sky that could vanish any moment... there is something magical about it that you just cant get on the ground. look forward to more of your videos. stay safe with the flying frog :o)
Aww thank you! And this has made me soooo happy to read! Yes!! You go for it and why not! You never know where any path takes you, so try it all and have fun along the way. Well done and best of luck with it all ☺️☺️
Wonderful again... difficult for me to compare the two series as the conditions were so different. I know the high contrast in the first is difficult to work with - perhaps I would lift the shadows more. But that's a personal choice of course. I'm more drawn to the second series I'm curious why you used the CPL filter? Take care, and already looking forward to part two 😊
Thank you! And yes I completely agree, they were very different situations, unfortunately (but not) the snow came pouring in. I think I still prefer the softness of D-log. And I used the CPL for a few reasons, I forgot it was on, I was out on a cold hike and couldn’t feel my fingers to change it (especially be so small) and finally, I actually leave my polariser lens on my main camera quite a lot, especially in the snow and it works well. So yes, a mixture of reasons 🙂 and thank you, it should be out next week! 🙂
Amazing footage!! Love the Alps, can’t wait to visit again some day and bring a drone this time. Totally agree it all comes down to personal preference. 😁 With my Air3 I find I’m shooting HLG for anything other than low light stuff. It did me take a while to figure out the editing workflow to really take advantage of the extra dynamic range it captures though. Now I do a Rec.2020 project in FCP with exporting to HEVC 4k60 DolbyVision HDR. Of course to fully see the difference one needs a viewing screen that supports HDR/DV as well. The amount of additional detail HLG/Rec.2020 workflow retains in the highlights vs Rec.709 is amazing! I find I need very minimal colour grading on this workflow. I think the Dlog footage will also work in a Rec.2020 workflow and give a similar end result.
Hi Victoria D-LoGM is always the best to film in with the DJI Mini 4 Pro what use all the time amazing footage of the landscapes in the French Alps. Just be careful flying in damp conditions as the drone not waterproof and especially not bird proof, as you found out! hopefully you will get your replacement soon.
Yes I think it is my favourite as well, and the more I practice with it i’m sure it will get better anyway. Yes I don’t plane to fly in damp conditions, as I said in the video it was just a random moment but not what I am planning on doing. But unfortunately it wasn’t the damp that caused problems but the birds! Yeah hopefully I will get a replacement soon - i’ll talk more about what happened at the end of the vlogs 🙂🤞🏻
You definitely nailed it when it comes to capturing the beauty of the magnificent landscape, really amazing. I think I prefer the D-LOG in this video, looked more tasteful to me. I love to see your vlogs and you doing a fantastic job with them all. It's a real pleasure watching them. Keep up the good work! 👍
Excellent as always! I really like the way you explain your techniques. Your videos have been an inspiration and caused me to get out more and fly. If you get the chance you might consider flying your Mini 4 with FPV goggles. It makes a big difference in lining up your shots. It helps me with my flight lines. After flying with goggles, I find it hard to fly without them. Nice work!
Thank you very much! and yes it is nice to explain some thought process involved. I have thought about the Goggles but I don't think they would suit me personally, I might try them one day though and thanks for the tip! Thanks again and keep enjoying your flying 🙂✌🏻
Hey Vic, came across your video and channel this evening and really enjoyed your content. Have to say Im with you on the D-Log front, use this with all my drones, except the Mavic which has D-Log M, Cant believed you resisted the temptation to do a 'snow angel' type shot ha ha ha always a favourite from the drones eye view. Keep up the enthusiasm for all things film and videography. Your new pal.
Hey and thank you for this! Yes I prefer D-log, it just makes more sense to me. You know what, I am kicking myself for not thinking of doing a snow angel shot!! Nooo how did I not think of that! I will do next time 🙂 thank you very much for your kind words, I appreciate it a lot ☺️⛄️
English people just after their being ill - remove all coats and scarfs and stand in the snow. D-log for sure, the Mini 4 Pro does an excellent job, sometimes I feel it's all I need, but then it's not all I want. I love flying out in the Swiss Alps, Austria is great too, the Dolomites are another one that'll make the Mini 4 Pro shine. Great shots Victoria.
I don’t like scarfs as they are too restricting and my red jumper was warm enough thank you. Yeah I get what you mean, but it’s a great starting point to knowing what you do want. Yes I have done photography in all those places and it was wonderful. My later vlogs are in the Swiss alps. I think the Dolomites would be lovely nearer to autumn, maybe next year i’ll go. And many thanks! 🙂
@ I froze just by looking at you! The Dolomites are great all year round, but autumn is definitely a beautiful season out there. The Swiss Alps are amazing, I think one of my personal favourites is Arosa, it’s magical.
Awesome footage👏👏👏 and congrats on coming a long way from not flying to full fledge drone vlog pilot so fast.😉 You mentioned a bit of an issue landing and as advanced as these tiny flying cameras are they still need some help landing. In your case looks like the drone needs to see some contrast on the groung to determine if is safe to land, perhaps try a landing pad for drones or even more convinient than that is learning to hand catching it if you have not learn to do so. Looking forward to your next bird view adventure. Take good care!✌
Thank you very much and I appreciate it! I think my background in photography and videography has definitely helped, as I can just focus on the flying element 🙂 Yes well I did think that as snow shows no definitions of objects so it makes sense that the drone was confused, but also the mist in the air confused it as well. I did put my jacket down but it was still confused and the landing in my hand is not working (even when I swap to SportsMode, it still flies away when I try to grab it). Thank you very much!
Your videos are cool. I don't know if I am still "on board" with log formats - I am not totally convinced on the dynamic range argument, as even after I have spent time "grading" in Davinici Resolve, I prefer the "look" of just using the Astia simulation - sometimes I think it is better to let the camera do the work. Especially when it comes to Fujifilm - these guys have been working with colours for longer than me, so it may not me a surprise. I have a DJI Action 4 as well - I find that even more difficult to grade - and in any event, its input colour space is only REC 709, and not REC 2020. Keep the videos coming though :D
Thank you! And some days it was definitely below 0 but it did great to be fair. I think it’s just be careful in foggy conditions- which I don’t plan to fly in, unless by mistake 🙂
Hi. I love your videos. They are really put together in a professional edit. Can I ask if you have registered to fly your drone in Europe? I am wanting to bring mine on a trip and wanted to know the options. Thanks
Thank you very much, I appreciate this a lot! And yes you do, if you go to the EASA (European Aviation Safety Authority) it will take you to the links for individual countries where you have to register where you will fly there e.g I had ro register for Switzerland and France separately, uploading all your documents for insurance and Operator ID from your domestic aviation authority 🙂 hope that helps 🙂
I'm glad that you gave HLG a try. The footage looked excellent in both version, and if you hadn't put up descriptions then nobody would have been able to tell the colour profiles apart. I especially liked the sunburst flairs when you were filming at sunset. I also really liked the almost monotone view of the trees and snow from above. Really atmospheric with subtle tonal changes. It just so happens that last week Darren Mostyn posted a tutorial on how to grade dLog M footage. That tutorial will really help you get the best out of your little drone. 😀 BTW dLog M is a confusing and quite possibly misleading rebranding by DJI, of a colour profile which is NOT a log profile. Its a Rec 709 colour profile. The older model of the DJI Mini 3 Pro has the correct log profile called dLog. The newer DJI Mini 4 Pro, which we both have, got a more "beginner friendly" colour profile which is more like the old DJI Cine LikeD flat profile. HLG is a log profile, however its horses for coarse's and both profiles look excellent especially when you have such stunning surroundings as the alps to fly around in.
You're doing a fantastic job! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
Hello from Switzerland 😊 . I subscribe cause I do like what's you do. I have the mini 3 pro. I would like to spend more time with drones, but I DON'T hav a lot of time these days. It is great to have a woman passionate of drone . So I am happy to subscribe. Take care 🙂
Hello! You live in such a wonderful place, keep an eye out as the next 2 drone vlogs are all Switzerland and I will also be doing the "full" vlogs of the whole trip to Switzerland. Thank you for subscribing I appreciate it a lot. And yes it can be hard to find the time to go out and use the drone but I hope you get out soon. Thank you again for your kind words and support 🙂✌🏻
Nice footage the Mini 4 Pro is the best in its class, for information you need to register your drone with EASA if flying within the EU you mention your registered in the UK but don’t mention EASA, regards
Beautiful video recordings, as well as the sound for the video 👍👍👍. Thanks a lot 🙏
Thank you so much and glad you enjoy the sounds too 🙂✌🏻⛄️
Bold and Beautiful, Artistic work, Victoria! Awesome adventures! I laugh at my own jokes too! Excellent!
Aww thank you, this made me smile. Haha i’m glad i’m not the only one 😄😄⛄️
Absolutely blown away by the landscapes and how you captured them. Definitely looking forward to the next video! 😀
Aw thank you! and there is a lot on the way 🙂✌🏻
Nicely captured!. Alps are so amazing, from every angle and from the drone even more. Big like 👍
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it! and the Alps definitely are, it's hard to not get a lovely shot of them! 🙂
12:00 judging by your recent IG posts, this is going to be an incredible video. Looking forward to it!
Aw thank you! And yes, there is some good stuff on the way ☺️⛄️
This lifestyle ..wow, although I love the snow, strangely liked the scenery without it more,
Keep living life to the full
A joy to watch ❤
Thank you so much, there will be more on the way. Everyone was so kind in the first vlog, I thought I would continue to make more ☺️
@ It’s a very grey and wet day here in Scotland… that vlog brightened my day no end 😊
