Bruce wrote a beautiful song with this one, but Natalie brought it to life. The emotion she conveys both live and on record is just heartbreaking. She knocked this one out of the park
I've listened to nearly every live version of this song available on TH-cam and Natalie is pitch perfect every time. I always liked the Dixie Chicks but I don't think I understood just what a unique talent she was/is. Amazing.
+73mckey She would love to but IHeart radio which is what Clear Channel calls itself today will not play anything Natalie or the Dixie Chicks make.Too bad she may have been the best female voice in country music history.
We were Lucky enough to be at this show at The Austin Music Hall. It was a Tsunami Relief concert, and the line up was great... But, this was something extra special. Respect for the ones that did not return from Military Service. 🕯❤🕯
This song tears me up almost every time I hear it. I hope to write such a special song one day. Bruce is a great songwriter and Natalie is a special individual. Peace and love to you.
A Dedication to all who never came home, and especially my friends of Headquarters Co., 1st Bn, 5thMar, RVN......... I miss you guys so much, but never will I forget you.... You gave me life....and sacrificed yours...........
Natalie, come back.... many of us share your perspective but we could not be heard due as we were out numbered. Country music needs you. pure, honest, talent. Your voice is too beautiful to be quiet.
Roger Reynolds She has made it plain she hates the Country Music community and we are all ignorant fools. Yeah because most of us are Patriotic and here in the South as a region we send more soldiers off to war. She didn't want to play the C&W music star game, but protest music and anti-war sentiment can be folded in a song like this song. The country crowd just doesn't want anyone to Dis the ole' USA.
1stSaintsFan She didnt dis the USA but the dumb ass President who got us in a fucked up war. Oh, when I served, most of my fellow soldiers were from the midwest not South. I actually met more soldiers from California than all of the south.
+1stSaintsFan Well that is a joke.. what about all the Country music fans who betray our President just because he is black, smart, and "does what is right".. not what makes him money in his pocket.. Dis the USA? ha!
Loved this, in the UK we only saw the Chicks because of certain comments that were attributed them in the USA. For me (politics apart ) so glad they did because it was on a different level. Roll on April me and my daughter can not waite to do it all again.
i absolutely admire kelly & bruce totally backing away from mic, giving all the credit to Natalie, because its her song and ONLY Natalie for this Tracking Soldier. my favorite song ever
i am a disabled vet - and while i hold no animosity to anyone - i do wish she hadn't said it overseas when she did. i fully appreciate her intentions but i dare say she will ever know her impact. i love her music and think she is a wonderful person. i just think she made a big mistake.
RIP PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH ......HE HAD A LOVE OF COUNTRY AND COUNTRY MUSIC.... ANYONE KNOWING THE TRUE MAN, COULD NEVER SPEAK ILL OF HIM. THANKS TO YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY SIR.
beautiful ... thank you for posting this honest rendition .... the dixie chicks are fine ... but i hate the fact that everyone thinks they wrote it and are the end all and be all of this song ... kind of the same way i feel about James Taylor being granted credit for Carol King;s you got a friend ..... in short ..... thank you for this ....
Should have been a No. One Hit Nation Wide. Released wrong time. I have this on my I-Pad. 1967-1968 - Vietnam. Follow it up with one for all our young men fighting for us. My Facebook is Bill Damuth SR.. You will see my best friend that was killed waiting to go hone to his girl friend. My cousin builds some big homes in Austin.
well I will always love the chicks. they pointed out bush by the way gore won the vote. but politics seem to elude you if you want to have your vote counted. at the time-his brother was governor it seems a little creepy to me. thanks Dixie chicks for speaking your mind. and as a bonus getting attention around the world.
holousek8221 No. You are absolutely wrong. When a band features a vocalist -- it is the BAND FEATURING THE VOCALIST. Not the other way around. He introduced her and welcomed her to the stage. Not her show.
holousek8221 You do not understand -- and that is OK. I am just correcting you, trying to explain a very basic concept to you. When a band is performing a concert... their fans buy tickets to that concert... on the ticket it says the band name... and then when they have a guest on stage (even if it is a lead vocalist)... it is BAND featuring VOCALIST. It's OK that you do not seem to understand this very simple concept... please just try. It's not complicated. I'm not telling you to change the title... I'm just telling you that you are not right.
Kelly Willis is every bit a Natalie Maines to me, but she's a country star that for some reason just didn't happen. She sings like a bird, she's pretty as a picture. The stars don't align sometimes, I guess. I'm a big fan, always will be.
For one the country music industry needs to open THEIR EYES and admit whats really going on with this country.Im proud she spoke her mind and i hope she doesnt regret it.Im fan of all music.Pink the pop star sang about the president to his face and not one person booed her.I believe it was because a woman said it and not a man.Like i said i like all kinds of music but, to me most of the country singers are snobs I live in Branson Mo and the male groups that came here were not polite at all.
I'm reminded of a man that took a cherry (me) under his old wings in Vietnam. A year older than me. I have a CIB and I agree with the Chicks.58,000 on my wall. how many on another. That man that helped me is on the wall.
Praying for you Steven, and for your particular buddy and for all your brothers in arms as well, and their families and yours as well. listening to vets (starting with WW I guys) was my first ministry. i could not do much more than listen. Love, in Christ, pastor gary
You totally missed on the title. Who in the hell do you think wrote this song anyway? Natalie Maines? In case you didn't notice she didn't introduce him to come up and be featured on her song he introduced her to be featured on his song. You should try creating your own videos.
Bruce wrote a beautiful song with this one, but Natalie brought it to life. The emotion she conveys both live and on record is just heartbreaking. She knocked this one out of the park
They both wrote it……
@@jaydenlawrence537 look at the songwriter credits. He wrote the song, Natalie Maines was not a co-writer

She does, but Kelly does it even better.
I've listened to nearly every live version of this song available on TH-cam and Natalie is pitch perfect every time. I always liked the Dixie Chicks but I don't think I understood just what a unique talent she was/is. Amazing.
Dammit Natalie!! Get your ass back on the radio, you have fans that love your country/bluegrass music.
+73mckey She would love to but IHeart radio which is what Clear Channel calls itself today will not play anything Natalie or the Dixie Chicks make.Too bad she may have been the best female voice in country music history.
@@annettecamlin9090 To be fair, I have suspicions that she might not want anything to do with them either.
She still sounds amazing after all these years. her voice is a timeless classic
This song is one of the most beautifully written songs I have ever heard!! Kudos to Bruce Robison!!!
We were Lucky enough to be at this show at The Austin Music Hall. It was a Tsunami Relief concert, and the line up was great...
But, this was something extra special.
Respect for the ones that did not return from Military Service. 🕯❤🕯
Just in the military...1963 to 1969...some people spitting on my uniform ...
My God I love that woman. I served the Dixie Chicks dinner on my 22nd birthday. I still have the autographed menu. Her voice is that of an angel. Wow.
We love you, Natalie. You have a great voice and I await to hear from you again!
Natalie M has an amazing voice. Her delivery is integral to the theme of the song. Brilliant.
This song tears me up almost every time I hear it. I hope to write such a special song one day. Bruce is a great songwriter and Natalie is a special individual. Peace and love to you.
I remember the first time I heard this song on the radio I had to pull over and cry. I cry every time I hear it. Well written and well performed
Beautiful . . . nice to hear Kelly Willis and her husband, songwriter, Bruce Robison add to Natalie's pretty voice . . .
I agree, Natalie Maines has one of the most amazing voices. I love the lyrics of this song. Beyond Amazing!
A Dedication to all who never came home, and especially my friends of Headquarters Co., 1st Bn, 5thMar, RVN......... I miss you guys so much, but never will I forget you.... You gave me life....and sacrificed yours...........
Sometimes you have to wonder was it all worthwhile, hopefully they kept the bad fuckers away from our countries for awhile 🇬🇧🇺🇸stay safe

If I ever want to cry I just put on this song and the waterworks flow. Love the song, love The Chicks and love Natalie Maines.
The Dixie Chicks introduced me to country music. I love you Natalie.
Bruce' original recording of "Travelin' Soldier" is and always was the best, the most heartfelt version ever!
is it on utube ?
Did TH-cam exist in 1996?

Always and forever i love me some Dixie Chicks! God bless you all!
Maines attended Berklee college of music, that's enormous in it's self, I know a graduate from this college the program is second to none.
I always get choked up at the end of that song.

So why was she so embarrassed to live in same state as #43
A song about how a woman views war. Natalie brings it to life.
I see you amd raise you
Nice performance
Damn.........

Pretty sure this is Bruce Robison & Kelly Willis featuring Natalie Maines, and not the other way around.
I was thinking the same...
Sorry but... Natalie is lead vocal and Bruce and Kelly are harmonies so... it is correct.
holousek8221 No. You are absolutely wrong. When a band features a vocalist -- it is the BAND FEATURING THE VOCALIST. Not the other way around. He introduced her and welcomed her to the stage. Not her show.
But still... in this song on his stage... she is leading vocal. So it is correct. I get what you mean but still... it is correct.
holousek8221 You do not understand -- and that is OK. I am just correcting you, trying to explain a very basic concept to you.

ma prefererde tout
je voulais dire cette chanson est ma preferer de tous
and can i add ... the harmonies??? ... nice
Seeing as they introduced her, I think it's them featuring Natalie Maines.
For those who didn’t return.
Kelly Willis is every bit a Natalie Maines to me, but she's a country star that for some reason just didn't happen. She sings like a bird, she's pretty as a picture. The stars don't align sometimes, I guess. I'm a big fan, always will be.
@Flutterbyswamp That makes up for George Jones getting credit for James Taylor's "Bartender's Blues" ;-)
She's so little !!!
Her dad Lloyd is a great steel player
The best I've ever heard he is.
My Natalie. I don't listen to country per say, but her voice and the Chicks fucking rule!
and i loved goody earl

and water is wet :)
Natalie looks so cute here.
It was cool how she had hair back then.
And altho we love Patsy, and Dolly, and Miss Emmy Lou,
Fifty years on, we'll all know, they had nothin' on you.
