I’m a 60 year old British white woman , and no I cannot relate to the struggles that Dave speaks about , and yourself ! But omg I am learning from this poetic genius. , this young guy makes me cry , laugh and think deeply. I feel he’s making me a better person with his teaching. Don’t you feel like he’s speaking to you personally about his life? I’ve never been into rap/ hip hop until I heard Dave. I’ve listened to a few now more artists but they don’t hit me like Dave. Your reactions on Dave are my favourite and love how you break them down and explain bars I don’t understand. Much respect to you.

Hi, just watched your reactions for the first time. Dave’s father didn’t walk out on the family, he was deported because he overstayed his visa- he said he thought it was a missionary visa as he was a pastor and was preaching. His mom had to run too, to avoid being deported and Dave was taken by the services when he was a baby. Ever since I found out Dave’s real name I recognized his heritage as Bini, Benin City which is where I’m from. I live in NYC where rap is a huge part of black culture but I’ve never really understood the “bars” in rap (maybe it’s the accent or pronunciations that I don’t identify with). I understand and identify with Santan Dave’s bars. He’s very clever with his words and I’m blown away at his composure and versatility after everything he’s been through. It could have gone south for him but he channelled his energy into something positive.

people say "the streets don't love Dave" because he's open about what his life really was, while contradicting that in his music. His older brothers got put in prison and his mother kept him locked up in his house learning piano and studying for school. He stayed at home, got a university degree, played piano and made rap music. I admire his real life and like his music, its just the people living the life he raps about don't respect him, because he doesn't live it.
He lost even more respect when he went on a twitter rant on why police should target more young black men for stop and searches. like, cmon man, really?

I have been on Dave since Six Paths dropped. Avelino is a mentor to Dave and one of the most lyrical in the UK. He collabed on an Album with Wretch 32, who in turn is Avelino's mentor and one of the goat of the UK. Their album is called Young fire, Old flame. (Avelino is Young fire and Wretch is 32).
So if we bring the bar back that was Hot headed when he was young...so Young Fire before he spoken with Avelino (Young fire himself).
You should get into Avelino and Wretch 32. They are on the same level as dave in terms of Rappers. I Would say Avelino is more lyrical and Wretch 32 is all round better than Dave.
To get a insight in what Avelino and Wretch do I would recommend listening to the Fire in the booth they did together. Arguably one if the best ever fire in the booth.
