- We had the pleasure of carving this tree sculpture in our family's home town for the wonderful city of Winsor, Ontario. We sculpted this Massive, 16 foot tall and over 3 foot wide, Pin Oak tree over 7 days carving native Windsor wildlife. Paul Giroux,City Forester/Manager of Forestry & Natural Areas commissioned us to transform this majestic tree into a work of art depicting a selection of wildlife from the local area. The wildlife tree sculpture we came up with has a beautiful soaring eagle that was carved out of the side of the tree and attached on top. a fox snake, a barn owl, a pileated woodpecker a red headed woodpecker, brown bats, a Blanding's turtle, a sturgeon, a mud puppy, a swallowtail butterfly and some squirrels! It was quite the project with all the scaffolding but we managed to make it worked and it turned out beautiful. All the features on the tree were carved in place except for the bald eagle.

I LOVE this piece, and was in awe when I saw it, and had to video it.
Thanks so much!
I was able to watch quite a bit of the carving and found it amazing how you can get so much detail done with a big chain saw. It turned out such a beautiful carving.
Thank you very much!
This turned out fantastic! Congratulations on a job well done!

@@CarverKingsOfficial You're very welcome.
Wowsa! That is a mighty awesome sculpture that the two of you have created. Really love the added extras to the video. I think it's your best one yet. Can't wait to see what your next project will be!
Thank you very much! It's as much working doing the videos as the carving. lol
@@CarverKingsOfficial Understandable, but to us your fans, they give us something worthwhile to watch during this stupid pandemic. You and Jacob are so talented. It is a great way to show the world your skills and mind-blowing creativity.
You two do Awesome Clean work! 👏🏽 👍🏽
Thanks so much
@@CarverKingsOfficial you’re very welcome!
Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
Quite an awesome piece, a piece of many pieces.
Great job guys!👍🏽👍🏽
I like how you two work together. I haven’t seen that yet.
Thanks so much! It's great working with Jacob, I can block out features and he follows behind detailing them out and when i get far enough ahead of him I go back and do the detailing too.
I’m sort of new to your page, what’s your name?
I’m Eric, I live in Charlotte, Michigan 🇺🇸, and I see you two are in Canada 🇨🇦
Well Hello Neighbors!👋🏽😎
I’m Paul and Jacob is my son. Thanks for watching
@@CarverKingsOfficial well nice to meet both of you, Paul and Jacob.✌🏽
Wow you fellas are really stepping up the videography as of late. Drones always give a unique new perspective. A remarkable piece and a true inspiration to watch. How much of this piece did you torch before final sand and finishing? What finishes did you use here?
We torched all the feature pieces hard , but tree part and weed lightly as it’s hard wood and burns black. We did a base coat of Timber oil and coloured with automotive acrylic airbrush
This looks amazing!! Since you were working on this yesterday, I 'm assuming it's a bit chilly! What sealant do you tend to use for colder weather applications? Thanks!!
I use a Timber oil product Thompson’s Timber oil. It’s not a shell coat so it just soaks into the wood. If it’s too cold I use a heat gun or torch to warm it up.
Awesome carving!! What kind of sanding tool r you using on the eagle head ? 13 min mark?
Wire Brush
Great video guys! Would love to see more step by step videos like this one. Also, how do you go about planning the design?
Thanks! did you check out the rest of our videos? We will make more step by step videos when we get a chance. Sometimes time is limited so we do what we can. For some thing like this we kind of just wing it. we were given a list of critters they wanted to see, so we started at the top and worked our way down. We had to cut the eagle out first, but after that it was just finding the tree within the tree and dropping features on the way down.
@@CarverKingsOfficial seen all your videos, haven't commented much but they are very appreciated. Amazingly enough, do younknow there is almost no chainsaw carving tutorials out there? I mean cut for cut. I am a wood sculptor and used to "whittling" until i find the shape. There is very little resource material on how to design a carving, the blocking out process for a multi-shape totem. I.bet there is a whole new market on " how to"
Carve specific critters and totems
Probably because pros don’t don’t like to give away information for free I guess. It’s a lot of work creating videos for free as well. We try.
@@CarverKingsOfficial i know how that goes, i am more of a traditional and sign carver with my own channel. its all about the free knowledge. i really appreciate what you all are doing
