The church that I attend has an orphanage and a school in Haiti for the past 40years and we hear reports each Sunday on what’s going on there.
The gangs are in total control. They’ve even gotten equipment to run over and demolish police stations and have kìlled police officers, as well.
The prime minister has now left the country and they gangs have taken over the streets.
We send much money each week and those in charge of the orphanage and school need to go out to the market to stock up on food for the children there (especially since the gangs have now taken over the ports also and it isn’t clear how long people will be able to get food at all or how much if will be sold for by the gangs if they do get it) but there is fear of being robbed and carjacked in the streets once they go outside.
There is total lawlessness. For all of this, please keep Haiti in your prayers. 😔

It happened to my mother when she was a child, but with Michele Duvalier's sister ( I forgot her name and weirdly I can not find her on the internet anymore) My mom was around 6 years old and was playing in front of the house. My grand-grand grandma and my grandma were sitting in front of the house talking when a black limousine drove by. Minutes after, the limousine car came back and parked in front of the house and Michèle's sister came out. She got closer to my mom and started talking to her telling her how much she was cute and such. My grandma and a couple of others from the neighborhood gatherd around. She was asking if she could take my mother with her. My grandma plead with her. Michèle's sister litteraly tried to negociate into buying my mother as a child. She than gave up and left. My mother said it was a known thing around the area that the Bennett's sisters would take children.

@ada-zionezukanma8275 Yeah, in the Old Testament. You forget that in the New Testament, Greek Jews like Timothy, whose mom was a Greek and dad a Jew was not required to do circumcision. Jesus' lineage was mixed. Ruth was a Moabite and Boaz was a Jew. Then there was Rahab who was accepted by Jews. Racism is not Godly.

How I twisted my ankle to click on this watch!
I remember watching the burning of Haiti as a kid at my family's house, while they told us of some stories of the dictatorship regime of Duvalier and Michele.
How lovely to be able to clap back on Facebook at anyone who comes for you while you guys fled with basically the vault of the country you were supposed to serve. It's hard to praise her "legacy" in feeding starving children when they left the country to fend for itself because in essence they robbed them. How lovely 😒
Sending prayers out to Haiti currently! Just heartbreaking 💔

She was no worse or better than many women that were married to dictators at that time in history. All I know is that under the Duvalier government Haiti was a stable country with very little crime and at that time Haitians were proud to be Haitians. Looking back Haiti has never been as stable or safe since the ousting of President Jean Claude Duvalier.

Thank you!! I agree with this comment. Let’s really look at all of the history of Haiti. Things have been really bad for Haitians since democracy came. There was a time where the country was stable and it was really during baby Doc’s reign. I have family from that time and they said he was nothing like his father.

I am happy that you are covering the subject of Michelle Duvalier because her memory has become an afterthought as her husband, "BabyDoc" Duvalier. She became the topic of discussion after sharing an infamous special People cover issue in 1986 with Imelda Marcos. The spendthrift wife of deposed dictator, Ferdinand Marcos of the Phillippines. Both women became the ire of disdain among their native people and most of the world at that period. Today, their materialistic legacies continue to haunt their nation's people.

I can believe it! I remember my stylist was doing my hair and someone asked her was she Ethiopian and she said “Well yes now I guess so.” She went on to tell us she was having a casual conversation with her Grandmother who was from Lousiana she mentioned “Grandma I know we have some Creole heritage but people think I'm Ethiopian.” She said her grandmother said “Where you think my Grand Daddy was born?” She had never heard that a day in her life not even her Mother they thought their lineage was all from Louisiana and the South. A lot of our elders were secret keepers. 😂
