His final album was released on Rain Records on CD. It is available but kinda pricey, I see it going for around $25-30 for a CD. I heard there was some legal wrangling over the rights so I think it's now officially OOP (out-of-print), but the ones that were manufactured were never recalled. It is definitely a product of its time (1982), where Jimmie was experimenting with a more new wave/power pop sound with synths and Cars-like staccato guitars, but it is not over-produced like much of the stuff from the early 80's, no big booming ugly drums, or pseudo-orchestral stingers. I would compare it more readily to Jackson Browne's contemporary albums of the era.

Lee - thanks for sharing your thoughts on Jimmie. I became a fan the first time I heard Isle of View and remain a fan to this day. Your playing added so much to his music. I always loved your playing on Long Way from China on this album. I met my wife in a record store in 1974 and when I told her one of my favorite artists was Jimmie Spherris she smiled and said he was a favorite of hers as well. We’ve been married for 44 years. Love your videos snd have been a long time fan of yours since the early days of JT.

      @@Linda-wk9ue Morning Linda! :)
I bundled up and set out at about 5:45am to hike down to the grocery store before very many people would be there, and before the sun would make it tougher coming back. I was really fighting with the wind, and could hear a complicated car, just not moving along out of the driveway. I went a little further out, hoping the wind would get easier to deal with away from the buildings. It seemed to just get wilder. I was not wanting to lose my best hat, which is not usually that hard to keep on. Thought about stowing it, but kind of needed it on to stay warm. Wrestled with the hat and trying to hold on to my gear to stand up at the same time, and waiting out the strange unmoving the vehicle, that I needed to go on, so I could hear well enough to cross the intersection myself. Began to wonder if the driver might be asleep, or up to something strange. The wind continued to get more intense and I almost never turn around and come back at that point, but I decided I should give up that errand until maybe tomorrow. Circled back home another way from how I had come. Was relieved to hear another vehicle pass me the opposite way headed towards the back of the unmoving one. I went and collected the outside mailbox while I was still outside, and finally got back in, and regrouped.
Wind chill was at 23° F with 44 mph gusts out of the North Northwest and turning. I did wonder if the carports were going to become unmoored on the way back. Sounded like they were trying to lift off! Wind chill is at 20° F right now. I was back under the covers by 7:30am, after sifting through the snail mail with my phone, and rebuilding my desk situation. Yesterday's high was 76°.
Are you in Kentucky? I momentarily got sidetracked using the phone to quick read some sautéed mushroom pouches, and to check if I really needed milk to make some brownie mix.

Lee, thanks for putting this one up. I was introduced to Jimmy Spheeris in '77 by a girl I was dating during my sophomore year in college. She really liked him, and she LOVED "I Am The Mercury." I listened to him a few times with her, and then never heard him or thought about him again until I saw your video. Time sure flies. Great musicianship there, as always, by you, Russ and the whole bunch.

Wow! I hadn't heard of Jimmy Spheeris for almost 50 years (no reluctance to date myself with that admission)! My college roommate and I had a couple of girl friends (two words, no romantic involvement, just lots of good times) who were also roommates (we're talkin' '73 here maybe) and they had at least his 1972 album if not the '73 one. They loved him! Gotta say he didn't hook me and my roommate quite like another of the ladies' faves, Jesse Colin Young...but we certainly listened to a lot of Jimmy thanks to them!

Yup…same here…The Nest, appeared on a CBS Sampler triple album, THE MUSIC PEOPLE. First heard it in the Summer of 1974. Got around to buying Speeris’ studio debut album, ISLE OF VIEW, and still have it in fine condition. This album was long considered the make out’ album of the 1970’s and title, ISLE OF VIEW, was really just a cryptic message - - repeat the title fast 3x’s…❤.

I'm so glad I found this. Every once in a while, I Google Jimmie to see if there's anything I hadn't seen yet. I loved his music so much - such an incredible voice, incredible musician, and incredible style. I saw him with friends in 1976 in Columbia, MO, when I was in college. I've been to many, many concerts by a variety of artists, but I'll always put his show as one of the very best I've ever seen. I always wanted to see him again, but it didn't happen. I remember how skilled his entire band was and how they would switch out instruments throughout the show. As I recalled, all of the musicians played multiple instruments. I also remember the music through the ages, starting with 1890, with a sample of music from every decade up to the present. The Original Tap Dancing Kid was always a favorite of mine. I'm so glad you played it. I've searched TH-cam many times to see if there was any concert footage, but I haven't found any. Do you know if any concerts were ever filmed?

Thanks for this gem of a video. Memories! I am a bass player and I performed live with Jimmie Spheeris several times, including on the Midnight Special in 1973 along with Geoff Levin, Jane Getz, Doreen Davis, and David Campbell. I am a huge fan of yours and your great work over the decades, Bo Tanas

Thank you for highlighting Jimmie's work...I'm honored to get a credit on an album. I saw Jimmy at the old Cellar Door in DC in the mid-'70s....

According to liner notes on the CD that I have, the violin was played by David Campbell.

Thanks so much. First worked with David on Jackson Browne’s first album. David went on to be one of the most in demand arrangers in LA.

Lee, thank you for this video! I hadn't realized that you knew Jimmie. I didn't find out about him until after his passing, but I have several of his albums, and listen to them regularly. I'm glad to be reminded that he really was active in the scene during his day, and known by people like you that I've come to admire.

I never knew of his fourth album! I found Isle of View in 1991 in a thrift store vinyl bin (along with Magicians Birthday:Uriah Heep and Remember the Future:Nektar…GOOD haul). My mom LOST HER MIND. She lost her album in a house fire when I was an infant. Fast forward a few months and the janitor at my highschool heard me humming Seeds of Spring to myself in the hallway and we became music buddies after that. He just couldn’t believe that he was hearing Jimmie coming out of a student’s mouth 😂

Reading about The volcano eruption near Tonga. Be aware people on west coast they say it could affect the area.
Just beware be alert. That’s all

We had a tsunami alert all along the west coast. Some very high waves in Pacifica (south of SF) and I'm sure other places I don't know of, but no damage.
My neighborhood has tsunami evacuation route signs. We've always found them hilarious - there's only one way away from the ocean!
