    Your totally right with out the likes of TVXQ , Super Junior and a lot of other great older group. Kpop would not be what it is today they paved the way and should be respected and remembered. New fans tend to look at the new in group and mis out on the older one . That’s definitely a mistake you mis out some fantastic stuff that way . For instance the 2nd & 3rd jen I considered them the golden ages

    Thank you so much for SuJu, as always. Here's my take. :)
    The song turned out better than I expected from the teaser, it suits them perfectly and conveys "fun, chaotic mess". And yes, the line distribution is great as always. Kyuhyun said something notable (and partly critical) about the structure, he said it comes in on extreme high notes (the absolute limit for the male voice even in Kpop!) without building up to them. That makes it interesting though, even if the motive may have been similar to choreographies nowadays of trying to grab the attention as quickly as possible. I'm not sure if the production and instrumentation mightn't have been a bit better (eg there seems to be some vocal compression, the highs sound a bit thin and harsh, the middle is muddy and the base is much stronger than usual).
    One thing that I've noticed (someone correct me if I'm wrong, eg if it's just due to the sample of stuff I know) is that the funky retro pop that has become SuJu's staple since "Devil" seems to have become much more widespread all of a sudden, even beyond SM and including younger groups, beginning with RIIZE (eg ACE's "Supernatural" stood out to me recently, and that's even in English). So it's kind of ironic to think SuJu's music is for older audiences.
    The choreo is cute too, as always, relatively simple, but fun and effective (a full version just came out for a TV promo, it's worth checking out!). And the guys look great as usual, but I'm less a fan of the styling (the subdued colors and casual hip hop clothes, and the baggy jeans and what I assume are PU leather jackets are a definite no for me). But that's mostly personal taste.
    Regarding the video, the concept of everyone going to the Super Show is fun, albeit hardly original, it could almost be an intro VCR. I like the "behind the scenes" feel, but the execution is so low budget it's almost insulting for a group like SuJu. One might regard it as amusing that they are supposed to gather from different places of individual activities - but everything is done on the same set. That it has a comedic effect is the only excuse, but even so. Everyone at SM is doing a space concept at the moment, but SuJu usually do their own thing, but they at least are given the look a little bit here, and that invites comparison to the budget groups like aespa get all the more. True that the sub units are no replacement for the whole group, and they were never meant to be, but LSS's videos were a lot more original and made much better use of the tiny budget (Shindong doesn't seem to be the director of this video). What I like most about the video are the comedic "micro moments", eg Leeteuk and Shindong reacting to Ryeowook's high note, how Ryeowook passes by in front of the camera, some of them snipping their fingers with deadpan expressions, the group's "WTF?" faces in reaction to the penguins etc. It's actually details like that with perfect comedic timing and attitude that sets their work apart from that of others. I like to say they have comedy genius IQ.
    Regarding the doom and gloom about their popularity, in 2023 SuJu still had the highest media presence in SK (if you count hosting, acting etc), in 2020 they won Billboard's global all time favorite boy group poll (One Direction was second and BTS 20th), Leeteuk was voted best Kpop leader by Forbes Korea in 2022. And even SuJu LSS did pretty well in the iTunes charts of 17 countries. "One More Time (Otra Vez)" recently reached its 100 Mio views (and I swear I was only responsible for a couple of hundred of those :)). That they can't compete anymore regarding view counts of newer videos is due to the fact that the fandom doesn't have the time and mindset to just stream for competition, that's why I think their following is underestimated. That they don't get to tour in the USA and Europe certainly isn't helping, and it's a vicious circle if they really lack support there (I don't know if they do or not). And maybe it's also because of hate comments due to "scandals" (most of which I personally regard as either unfounded or as having nothing to do with them as artists, but of course in the case of idols many Korean and younger fans don't separate the artist and the person). They even got hate from various factions for appearing as OT15 together at Ryeowook's wedding and Leeteuk asking the guests to help former member Kangin with some kind of job because he's practically starving.
    Might I also point out that the lyrics are delightfully naughty, which is also part of their brand: they practically compare performing to seducing, and that's exactly what they do. :)
    Anyway, bottom line as always, I love SuJu, and in spite of everything they have once again certainly worked their magic on me.

    • @Killdeer25
      @Killdeer25  หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      haha! its funny you brought up the lyrics because I was about to kind of cover it more so then I was like.... oh maybe I shouldn't haha!
      I never doubted the quality of a SUJU song, I think its a little basic but that's not the worst thing ever. I like how they did it and spread it out for everyone, I think you are right though, this feels like that funky retro pop that they are known for, i always the idea that when its been a long time for a group to have a comeback they always have this idea to put something like this out so people can relate it to the group and remind the idea of what they do, Blink 182 returned with a song that was quintessential Blink music, it wasn't new or ground breaking but yeah it hit that nostalgia feel and reminded everyone what it sounds like with the original line up back together. their comedy IQ will always be top notch!
      they did have that VCR grain to it, its true, I think that might also play into the nostalgia factor as well. I think that for sure the space concept and it is too bad that they would give them such a small budget but SUJU being SUJU is going to make the best of it, I would absolutely think that they are just happy to make music together again.
      oh absolutely, there is the concept of the big four from metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer) and I think I would put SUJU in the Big Four of KPop 100%
      SUJU Is magic in human form :D

      @@Killdeer25 Happy to cover the naughty bits for you. I always say the quiet part out loud. :)
      They still call concert videos VCRs in Kpop even though they are digital and HQ technically. I just meant that the concept of running to the show is like a concert intro video. Those used to have pretty decent production values, there was stuff like huge angels descending from heaven, action movies, swimming under water (half naked and in slow mo) ...

    Ok I'm gonna say it: As a full group SuJu is very distinct and the best sounding Kpop bg, even better than EXO, even though individually they are just as great. A vocal producer at SM once said that too, they are simply unique. And that's quite amazing since they weren't mainly assembled for that, nor even as an idol group. I'm sure they worked hard at it, but somehow some magic just seems to have happened as well.
    Fun fact: SKZ just released a new video which has almost the exact same concept of going to a show in an elevator. (And yes I know that it is connected with their "Hellevator", but still. I guess companies rely on there not being much overlap between fandoms, esp not generations.)

    • @Killdeer25
      @Killdeer25  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      EXO is fantastic, SUJU very much has the right to argue that point as well, I think one day I might make a big 4 video and what I like about each group more than others, get some ideas across. but honestly you very much have a solid point, and after watching Last Man Standing, I am pretty impressed with what they do!
      I was about to say, it does seem that a lot of companies seem to like to apply a similar concept through out, like you said, the whole outer space thing

    • @aligensa
      @aligensa 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Killdeer25 Im surprised The Last Man Standing was necessary or helped to see that. I always suspect SuJu get underestimated because of their comedic image. I only mentioned one aspect that had to do with music but there are so many others. Most importantly: They are unique as all round entertainers, and with them SM really created Kpop as we know it and also laid the foundations for its international success. They already did everything BTS did later (social media, reality shows etc), that's simply a fact. And in Asia they broke every record and received every award an idol group can get and then some. They are still huge 20 years later and keep reinventing themselves, which is unprecedented for a boy group, and even though younger western fans don't know how important they were they are respected among their peers and older, more knowledgeable audiences.
      EXO and TVXQ are perhaps more perfect as singers and dancers, but they don't have SuJu's creativity regarding concepts and all-round entertainment value. That's just a fact. And SuJu make it look like it was all spontaneous silliness, that makes them much loved, but not always recognized how much talent and work goes into that too. Honestly Im a fickle person with very high standards who gets bored easily, I know pretty much the best of pop culture of many countries and from several centuries, and I don't usually even like silly comedy, but SuJu has kept me fascinated longer than anything else has - and it wasn't love at first sight, even though they don't have a profound message or anything, it does take some time to get them. When you do for most people it really is an everlasting friendship.
      I suspect the space thing at SM evolved out of Kwanga after Lee Soo Man left.
