Hey folks! Just a heads up: we originally started this playthrough back in December 2020 on Twitch before Final Cut was released. To watch us play live with Final Cut content added, check us out at twitch.tv/shortonegaming!
@@Kakunkeittaja tbh I find it confusing as well. A couple of things - the full list of thoughts is visible from the beginning - the locked extra slots are faded into the background - the skill point bar is visible, directly above the internalize button, implying that it might cost a skill point - the lightning animation between the slot leads you to think there is some kind of interaction when learning more than one thought, but there is not
@@mx2000 Fair enough. I really hoped there would be some sort of synergy (or interaction) between the thoughts too (cause of the lightning). Though after watching the dev interview I realized how that would have taken way too much time to make. Maybe in Disco Elysium part deux : O
Sadly, it was not for a lack of trying that the Thought Cabinet is so confusing. I watched an interview of the main dev, and he made it pretty clear how immensely difficult it was to make this unique feature parseable to players (it was originally even *more* confusing if you can believe it)
@@GrnAzn yeah, it is one those features where devs think it will be this grand, defining feature of the game, and it turns out to simply not work. Honestly, the only interesting thing for me about the thought cabinet is the writing, some of the descriptions are hilarious. As a game mechanic, it is *exceptionally* ineffective. The fact that the rewards are secret means you can't really make an informed choice on what to pick. Also, since you can pick any combination, there's really no tradeoffs to consider until you run out of slots (which is a loooong way into the game), and since removing costs the same as adding a slot, removing is again pointless until you run out of slots. Maybe if you had to always pick only one from a set of thoughts, and that choice actively affects the rest of the game, then it would feel more like shaping your characters. Or if you would get extra slots at fixed and increasing xp thresholds, instead of spending a skill point, it wouldn't compete with spending on skills. Also, being able to learn any number of thoughts in parallel feels weird and makes the UI more complex.
It was only available in December-January, so it's been down for a while now. You can see some clips if you look up "Terminus Theatre + Marley was Dead to begin with," though!
@@D.J.Paige71 the game automaticly updates with full voice acting, there is no "base disco elysium" However, we dont know when this video was recorded. In options you can set it back to non voiced if you want, but its defaulted at voiced.
There's a pretty significant difference between talking about suicide with people within your support network who can help you process those thoughts in a healthy and productive way and what the main character of this game did. He wasn't doing that AT ALL. He was forcing strangers who were unable to consent to the conversation to endure him threatening to kill himself, which understandably left those involved traumatized.

New Thought : Gigantic Spider on Living Room
watching this live just gives you so much more joy when rewatching it here
The thought cabinet screen really needed a better UI. I see so many streamers being confused by it, even after help from chat.
streamers get confused by everything all the time that's not a valid measuring stick

is there anywhere online where I can watch Marley (if that's how it's written)? it sounds super interesting!
I believe the name is Marley was dead to begin with. I can't find anywhere to view it in full, though. Maybe contact them on twitter?

1:06:54 WAIT I GOT IT....Kurt Discostick! 🤣
so THATS how you spell geoff packard. What the hell man
Wait are you guys' game bugged? The game should be fully voice acted, so I'm not sure what's going on here.
They aren't playing the final cut. Final Cut is fully voice acted. Base Disco Elysium isn't.
@@D.J.Paige71 yeah but why? the Final cut is a free upgrade with extras and full voice

According to the save file, this playthrough is from Dec 2020
@@magnusberge They live streamed this before the final cut came out. Episode 3 or 4 will be final cut
Why shy away from the suicide talk

as a person from Wisconsin, pls no. We don't have that accent at all
