    Nik tutorial would be great. To start with: what has actually changed since DxO took it on and is it worth to upgrade? Also does Affinity 1.8 support other (more) new plugins like on1 or luminar / aurora ? Thx for all your great work!

    • @LutzHeidbrink
      @LutzHeidbrink 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing I noticed recently changing from Google Nik to the DXO Version is that my 4K Display is better supported on Windows. With the Google Nik Version the fonts and interface are super small, barley readable. Luminar I can give a checkmark. On my Macbook with Luminar Flex it works well with Affinity Photo. (Just like with NIK you have to duplicate the working layer, it does not create automatic a new one like in Photoshop)

    Thanks. I have been using since 1.5, and I find the interface crazy . I need to watch a video to understand how to use specific features, everytime I need them. For photo retouch I prefer Photoshop, the clone and the healing work better and also the selections work better. To select a portion of a photo with affinity its incredible difficult. Thanks again

    • @OlivioSarikas

      Yes, the selection Tools in Affinity Photo are not the best at the moment. If you need a professional Tool Photoshop still is the go-to software. But for Hobbyists Affinity Photo has a much better price to quality ratio :)

    The “new document” feature should work such that the last used is placed first, and it stays in it’s place in the hierarki when a new size is placed first.
    That way the first two or three sizes will be the ones you use.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sound like a interesting feature. Although it also means that they change places, so if i search for a less used format I would have to find where it was ranked at that moment in time. The Pop-Down menu on the other hand gave me all formats in one simple glimpse, no scrolling or rearranging needed. Still kind of liked that more.

    I really learn a lot from your videos. I am ,at present, researching the lives of famous Welsh cyclists around 1900. I have found images printed in newspapers of the time. The paper has become dark or even brown. To make the image better I paint between the lines in white, sometimes a pixel at the time. I have found that despite 100% opacity and hardness I have to paint over the same area three times before I have the same white as the blank document. Am I using the wrong brushes or settings? S. • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish they would, because i would use that a lot more. I think the main reason for creating Publisher first is because (i have heard) they created a similar software before they became big with Affinity Photo and now they improved it and adapted it, so it works seamlessly with Affinity Photo. But i would very much welcome a Lightroom-like Software from Serif

    Instead of adding “improvements” to import Photoshop projects, why don’t they focus in improvements that reduce the complexity of creating original projects within Affinity programs along with adding more base functionality on par with what Adobe products currently have to offer? There are so many things that they could do to improve the base functionality of Affinity projects and make them more in line with Adobe products. If they’d focus on those issues, more people would just create original projects within Affinity products, thus completely negating the need to import Photoshop projects all together.
    This update was very weak imo. It being touted as some major update concerns me because - if I had to guess - it’s an indicator that the next update with improvements of actual substance is going to require an update fee.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you on several points, but: The Smart Object support is a strategic move to bring in more Photoshop users. You have to keep in mind that professional create over the years files that are worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. So they can only switch to Affinity if they can still open these files and edit them for their customers. So this was a mayor move for Affinity Photo.

      @@OlivioSarikas , I understand the mindset that Affinity has in terms of thinking that they need a way for previous Adobe product users to get their Adobe based projects into Affinity. HOWEVER, I strongly believe that this is putting the cart before the horse.
      If Affinity products do not FIRST support the base functionality that Adobe products offer their existing customer base, those customers likely will never make the transition to Affinity in the first place. If some of them do, I speculate that they tend to migrate back to Adobe once they get inside Affinity products and immediately begin seeing Affinity's current limitations and lack of comparable tool sets. This is especially true for users who currently retain highly valuable products inside Adobe projects. A relatively minuscule subscription fee is nothing to a development team (and the entertainment industry as a whole) whose whole workflow is already based within Adobe products, the suits' toolsets, and existing knowledge base.
      In the end, who cares if I can transfer a $100k Adobe based project into Affinity products if such a transfer is going to reduce my base functionality when working on that project? The majority of Adobe teams/users currently will never make this switch due to the limitations that such a switch into Affinity results in. As such, Affinity needs to stop putting so much time and effort into updates that predominately focus on an "Adobe to Affinity" ability that many of its users will never use because they ARE NOT Adobe users. We are Affinity users and we would much rather have updates that improve Affinity product functionality in such a manner that it is at least equal to Adobe products.
      The Affinity team needs to desperately focus on getting their base functionality and suit of tools/products at least on par with Adobe before they worry about capturing Adobe users. Once they can compete at that level, then Affinity can worry about providing a means for Adobe users to transfer their Adobe projects into Affinity. If most Adobe users will never make the switch due to Affinity's current limitations, why bother creating a transfer process that will likely never be used by the majority of their users? Most people using Affinity are likely people like me without Adobe subscriptions who are creating original projects inside Affinity products. The only reason I potentially need the ability to transfer Adobe projects into Affinity products is because I need to jump into Adobe products to do something that Affinity products currently cannot do. I would much rather Affinity work on getting me the functionality inside Affinity so that I don't have to even think about touching an Adobe product.

    I´m sorry, but "indivdual shortcuts" are definitely not new (available since Version 1.6 at least)

      Hi Peter, you are right - they are actually only new for iPad. Good to know :)

    I am still bitter about the fact that affinity still does not offer right to left language support.
    Plenty of softwares leverage a windows/os component tbat already helps with this.
    And they constantly ignore all pleas to address this. Thats a huge segment of designers left out. Arabic/hebrew/farsi/azeri and more

      that's strange. seems like something rather simple to implement. however they are a very small team working on a lot of stuff at the same time.

      @@OlivioSarikas Even if we were to accept the premise that its a complicated implementation (gimps had it since its earliest phases) the fact that a language barrier is treated a lesser priority is a massive oversight

      Well, i like a lot of the new ideas that have been implemented, but of course with all new features there is always room to improve

      @@OlivioSarikas Well, Would you be happy and content with Affinity as it stands now without another update ever?
