Modding is an art form. No blaster is perfect out of the box. What people don't understand is modding is mostly responsible for the off the shelf blaster performance today. Nerfsmithing is alive and well. Your blaster is an extension of you and there's nothing like running your own creation.
People underestimate how spoiled we are in the States as hobbyists, when parts of Europe and Australia still have “grey trigger” variants of blasters, if they even have any blasters at all
At least they have exclusive blasters over there (Gear Up Recon, Modulus Tracker, Rampage MK II, and probably some blasters that I’m forgetting about).
I needed this video I was feeling pretty burned out after two years of not modding and only playing DZ and other brands pro blasters, this video was a big help in getting the inspiration back into modding launchers. Thank you so much :D
Awesome video bro , I love modding more than blasting sometimes. The start to finish product is so satisfying on top of that it’s nice to have something other people don’t have .
I’ve always loved the feeling of a blaster achieving something that it might not have been made for. I’ve taken blaster I thought were broken, and made them fully functional again with some time and effort. And saying just to by a pro blaster instead of modding? Guess what, they can also be modded too! It’s just another level you have to try/work on.
I agree! I have both a Nexus Pro X and the Aeon Pro X, but I find more enjoyment out of my modded Aeon. There’s something about making a blaster your own! And that Maxim looks great! You should do a paint tutorial, or just an overview of what you put into it!
It’s great to hear that you really enjoy modding as well! The Maxim paint job is just super simple. A buddy from my group gave it to me completely disassembled and I just painted the main shell cyan and the rest red.
I actually thrifted a Rex Rampage recently with the specific intention of modding it once i have the time, because I think it looks stupid in the best way. It'll then join my collection of off-the-shelf and 3d printed "pro" blasters. Sometimes I wanna mod, sometimes I wanna print, and sometimes I just want to use stuff as is. All are good options and we would be poorer as a hobby if any of them went away.
Well said! I think modding is a big aspect that sets nerf apart from other similar hobbys. The spirit of just doing stuff for the hell of it and out of joy - not necessity is what makes it awesome :D
2:20 that caught me so off gaurd 😂 And I agree modding isn't dead in the slightest. It depends solely on the person and what they would perfer. I modified the Fortnite Flare to shoot Rival rounds... sure the Pilot, Fate, and Knockout all do the same exact thing (maybe even better than my mod) but I now have the satisfaction of having a blaster I made better myself, and it's special.
When I mention that you can buy something that already does the task, it’s usually because some people legitimately don’t know that you can but that off store shelves or online. I agree modding isn’t dead, it won’t be dead for a long time if ever in the community but I just like to let people know you can avoid modding if you want.
Cool video, also another note as to why modding might still be a need: availability. Not everyone can go out and just buy a NexuX as not everyone lives in the US.
That’s a great a point I didn’t think about! I’ve seen plenty of people outside the US Complain about not having DZ blasters available in their country. Thank you for being that up!
Modding is fun, but no longer necessary to be competitive. I like that it's still an option, and there will always be people that enjoy the process of modding even if it's not strictly necessary.

Dude it suck’s that people think kidding is dead it’s awesome that there are high performers out there now but there is so much joy in making a blaster your own i mean you are a great example you take blasters and make them into amazing primaries which really speak you or coop in how he would make such phenomenal looking blasters to me I don’t think modding is dead I don’t think it ever will be
wish I myself had the means to make my own nerf blaster with the ideas I have.Whenever I'm at a nerf event it's not the best nerf blaster people want try out it's the custom one's people have made that do something a bit different.if you look at all the pro performance blasters nowadays they all follow a similar form factor so when someone makes there own that does something different it brings everyone the childlike joy they had when seeing a new nerf blaster on store shelves when they were younger
I am currently doing a cpvc couplered big bad bow with a raider spring addition, its going great. Imo modding isnt dead, its just found its place in the nerf hobby
I think the sentiment of performance mods is in the hole now, but I think it's still a valuable part of the community. People still do cosmetic mods, combinations, underbarrel, and even just standard mods. I think the idea of modding being like cooking is really good at explaining it. Also, modding is sometimes a lot cheaper then most high end blasters.
Due to things like fps caps, high performance stock blasters, etc. modding certainly feels like it’s dying out, especially as someone who joined the NIC at a time where being a hobbyist basically required you to be a modder and virtually everyone ran modified/homemade blasters. I’ll never understand why some people seek to actually discourage others from modding though, even if it’s not necessary for where/how you play the process of modding itself can be highly rewarding and it’s always cool to see what other people come up with.
Dude my nerf knockout with an automatic opening breach and sized down to half darts firing at 150 fps is one of my favorite small blasters. It's a pocket sniper that doesn't take a ton of force to prime (though I do also love my printed 31K-L). Same with the Hecate which uses the big shock as a base. I do think it's a little silly to try and make stock nerf guns "competitive" but its certainly nice to have as an option. At the very least ripping out those damn flow restrictors and replacing the barrels + some rifling 🤣
Modding is still a big part of the community, it's just not as common amongst new people. I mod pretty much everything that I buy. I don't want the same thing everyone else has, I want something that is my own. I also enjoy pushing the limits of blasters.
Again, I think it depends on the person. I’m pretty new to hobby in retrospect but I always thought modding was pretty neat. But for people not that mechanically minded like me, may not care. Also I’m glad you’re enjoying modding!

My entire deal has basically become spite as an old school fan in the hobby from when modding WAS the only way. You have a 230fps aeb? I'll still kick your butt with this pump action Longstrike that hits 150 and has accuracy as a suggestion. I'm also sick of so many blasters just getting overlooked because it's "outdated". Like no, that's just dormant potential. As a newbie to the hobby, I know better than to show up to a war with a blaster that screams “I am trying to buy my way into being good at this.” It’s a great way to ensure you’ll get targeted by the experienced old timers all day long!
My larp runs a cap of 120 fps because we don't require eye pro. Modding for me is *essential* because pro blaster hit way to high and most stock blasters hit way too low so you absolutely need to mod to tune up or down a blaster to get into a useful game-legal range.
