Hello, question...how much time/days do u recommend to stay there? I guess im asking if 1 day is enough :)
Yes one day is plenty for the ruins and if you hire our guide he also does the bat experience in the evening. You can make it a package deal. But you'll want a days rest after it haha that will be a long day!
I agree, the historical and cultural reference turns a "simple structure" into something magical. And in Mexico many things have a historical reference, food, drinks, dance, clothing, music, buildings, language, and I can on an on. We appreciate the savvy tourist, the one who not only comes for the party and margaritas; but the tourist who has a real interest in understanding the culture of a place. Keep on doing videos like that, we are happy to have tourist like you.

Great video!!! Hiking, exploring and all the amazing wildlife...... right up my alley. The Mayans were amazing architects, engineers and craftsman. I was blown away by how big the structures are. Just added this to my bucket list. 👍👍

Wow guys more great things to see in Mexico. That was an amazing view from the top but how hard was it to go up and down the stone stairs? Excelent video, my family and I did most of what you've been showing in the Yucatan Peninsula about 8 years ago, it was one of the best adventures my children have ever had. Calakmul was one of our last stops in Campeche, we exited the Yucatan peninsula due east and entered the state of Chiapas where we visited Palenque, Bonampak and Yaxchilan before heading back to Mexico City via Villahermosa in Tabasco, those sites are also worth a visit.

Absolutely beautiful! Planning a trip to Calkmul in December. Thank you for your video, very helpful and you guys were so respectful of everything.
I loved this site. We saw lots of monkeys at this site as well as a fox on one of the pyramid structures. Many birds too. The larger pyramid had buzzards hanging out on top which reluctantly flew off when we climbed up. Best time is early in the day. Lots of walking to do and bringing water is important and a snack is definitely a good idea. I'm glad you pointed out the graffiti and implored people to please not leave their names on the rock faces. This is an ancient historic area and should be respected.

You found the bat cave! Cool! Did you say hi to Batman? The pyramids, very cool. Getting soaked riding the scooter, literally cool but otherwise not. (Been there done that.). Weather here for the third week in a row, literally cool (cold) because there is still snow and ice on the ground from this weekend’s snow and ice storm. Keep having fun in the warm weather!

I visited there solo. I just about had a heart attack. Walking down the long trails with nobody around, reading the signs with all the large cats in the area listed and some turkeys moving through the bush starteled me.

I love that you guys seem so genuinely interested in the culture, history etc. you must have already felt this way before you arrived but it seems to me like Mexico really grew on you and was a bit of a surprise.
I’ve been to Mexico about 10 times myself - mostly the Yucatán - but really have not spent that much time there. But I’m very drawn to the country and complex culture SO you guys are a reminder to me that I had better follow my dream to spend at least two months a year in Mexico. But there are so many choices. PV seems like a good choice but maybe “boring” in a way since it seems to be lacking in ancient history and culture. I wonder what you guys think....

I just visited Calakmul two weeks ago. A section of the site that was previously open is now temporarily closed due to excavations so you can only visit 4 buildings now along the short route: the 3 tallest pyramid/structures and a royal palace. It still took an entire day to get there and back - I had a rental car but opted to take a tour through Kaan Expeditions for about $100 total which included transportation, tour guide and a lunch on site. A little disppapointed I missed other parts of the site, but still glad I went.
Bummer to hear parts closed but restoration and preservation of these ancient ruins are definitely needed. Glad you enjoyed it. Such an amazing place!

No snakes but yes to spiders and scorpions. Honestly we encounter more bugs in Florida than Mexico. But they're everywhere lol

Sorry if I missed it, but how was the drive to Calakmul after you turned off the highway? We are heading down to Xcalak/Mahahual/Bacalar and then might stop at Calakmul on the way to San Cristobal. We have a 4x4 SMB type van.

Hey guys, my name is Daniel and live in Oakland California. I am originally from Guanajuato. I have been stung my a scorpion twice back in my homeland. What happened to that black scorpion???
Trying to figure out if it makes sense to go. I'm not renting a car. There are so many ruins to see. This one is hard to get to. But can see the bats and Becan as well. I saw Tikal and Copan, plan to work across the Yucatan to Palengue. My question is Calakmul a top 5 mayan ruin. Its so hard to tell.
It was a really cool site. If it's too hard to get to id say skip it. Sounds like you're going to lots of other cool ones. As explained in the video you need a way of getting to the site too.
I've read that from Xpujil, there are guys who will drive you. The cost is about the same as a car rental. Can see Becan and the bats the next day. ADO has a bus there but timing of that bus is bad. Collectivo maybe from Chetumal.

Thinking. Tikal, Palenque, Chichen Itza, Copan and Chakamul are like a "big 5". But when you read websites the top 5 varies so much. Tulum to me looks lesser and so does Ezdna and Uxmal.
Your videos are so amazing. Takes a lot of time to digest them. But slowly going through them.

No idea for a big hotel. There's lots of nearby small towns with nice hotels

It was like 8 am to 5 pm so yes. It takes 2 hours just to drive there one way then there's a lot to see.
