  • I list some torque settings for the CRF300L, as there's no service manual and the owner's manual does not list common torque specs. I also show a commonly available tool, needed to remove the front axle bolt.

    Good on you for posting up the torque specs. I'm not going to lie: I support pirating the service manuals, and have shared many copies of the XT manuals, which were hard to find for the newer XT250. I wish you luck finding one for your 600.

    • @Scoottoots

      I wish I could have gotten more torque specs, but at least those are common. I do have a digital version of the service manual for the cb650F. I hope there may be one for the 300L in the offing someday. When companies gouge their good customers they deserve to have their manuals copied.

    Dude, Thank-you! I've been trying to get torque values from my dealer and Honda Canada with no results.

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm so glad it helps. I just wish I could have gotten more. As it was, many of the diameters they gave me were inaccurate. These figures come from their service manual in their computer system. That caused me some pause, so I double-checked that the torque values were correct, and I did not pass on any of the incorrect diameters, nor did I give the figures for the other fork and triple clamp bolts, as there were discrepancies. Quite strange that Honda made so many mistakes in their information for dealer service departments.

    Great, thanks a bunch for the torque settings and the front axle tool! Strange way to remove the front axle, but they want to sell the expensive tool or better yet have you bring the bike to the for service.

    I am going to mount the Motoskill crash bar. What is the torque for the three lower motor mount points?

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the 300L there are four engine hanger nuts Two upper and two lower. They are 10mm thread diameter. The three I think you might mean are:
      Rear Lower: 33 lbf.ft torque
      Front Lower: 41 lbf.ft torque
      Front Upper: 41 lbf.ft torque
      The rear upper nut is 33 lbf.ft torque if you need that. The only other spec they give for the Engine unit is an Engine Hanger Plate Bolt which is 8 mm thread diameter and the torque is 20 lbf.ft
      Hope that helps :-)

    • @Scoottoots

      Yes, I forgot to include that. It is 18 lb.ft

  • @Casey_Schmidt
    @Casey_Schmidt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've experienced the same "problem" with the oil appearing over-full in the sight glass when I know I put in exactly what the service manual says. While having the oil significantly over-full can damage the engine, a little won't really do much so I stick with the manual. The sight glass also seems to be extremely sensitive to the angel of the bike in both roll and pitch, so that's another variable.

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I wonder if the internal components that changed to stroke the engine are somewhat beefier and have displaced a bit more oil causing the level to rise slightly as compared to the 250 engine. I never experienced similar with the 250 version. It was always below the absolute full mark after an oil and filter change.

    • @markcollins5026
      @markcollins5026 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man, I don't go by the amount it says to use, just fill it until it's to upper mark on the sight glass !

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@markcollins5026 It's just a few mm over the mark on the sight glass so negligible level difference in the crankcase. No worries Your method is more fiddly than knowing the right amount in the first place. Now I know to use a couple ounces less. Can't really watch the sight glass as you fill because you have to start it and let it warm up to fill the filter, etc, before you can read the sight glass. That's more steps. I like simple :-)

    You can get a whole set of them there Allen sockets at kraken for the same price as just the 14 mm might as well get 6 sizes than just one thanks for the torque specs !!

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that'd be the way to go if you need more. I have lots of Allen socket bits; just not this size.

  • @timil2323
    @timil2323 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I also added 1.5L after oil change, and it was a little bit over too . I guess its more around 1.3L . I also nitoced some of the torques are the same as 250L . Thats what I went by when I took my front wheel off . (I had some squeeking so I greased the axle and bearings its good now I think)

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, most of the values are the same as the 250L. Some are changed however, such as the fork pinch bolts on the triple. They used to be 12mm bolts torqued to 24 lb.ft. Now they are 8mm bolts torqued to 21 lb.ft. As for the oil level. that small extra level seen in the sight glass will not be an issue. A few mm's extra in the glass would be very little extra in the crankcase. Just an observation is all.

    Do you know the torque specs on lowering linkage bolts?

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean the rear suspension shock linkage? If so, the torque on both the frame side shock link bolt and the shock arm side link nut are both 44 Nm (32 Lbf. ft.), and they are both fitted with self-locking nuts. Hope that helps.

    By chance, do you know the torque for the oil filter cap?

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The oil filter housing? I don't use a torque wrench on those bolts. I think the value is 8 or 9 lb. ft. Those bolts are soft. If the wrench isn't accurate at these low settings, the bolts snap easily. Instead I use a small 4" ratchet and snug then tighten a smidge more. You can develop a feel for how far is enough. Another thing I do when changing the filter is I put a small magnet on the outer side of the cover to hold the spring in place on the other side while placing it over the filter. Stops the spring from going sideways on install :-)

  • @laneta6372

    Does it matter which way the rear axle goes? I took the rear wheel off and can’t remember from which way it goes? Lol help 😅

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it does not matter. On my 300L though, the nut is on the rigth side of the bike, so the axle slides through from the left side.
