When people talk about power hitters of the 90's everyone always talk about Griffey, Bonds, McGwire, Sosa but nobody ever brings up Albert Belle and it's a shame. He only played ten full seasons and hit nearly 400 homers. Not to mention his 50/50 year in a SHORTENED SEASON. It was a shame his body broke down so fast because he easily would have cleared 500 homers maybe making a run towards 600. With some players getting relooked at for the hall of fame through advanced metrics he has a strong case for him because I believe he is top 40 all-time in career OPS and OPS+
Thank you for this. He was my favorite player growing up and I knew he wouldn't get in the hall based on his hatred of the media alone. His career was a bit short as well, but he was up there with Griffey and Thomas in the 90's.
Perfectly stated! A.B. was a straight beast It’s to bad more people didn’t get the chance to see a side of him, that is did! Either my mother or one of my buddies mothers would take to go get the player’s autographs (at the old stadium the players had to walk through the parking to get in the stadium, perfect for autographs) I 1st met A.B. when he went by Joey & from day one this guy was aces to me! As I got older I would go down after school with some buddies get some autographs & stay for the game. When A.B. asked me about how I got my tickets & and told I paid. Starting that day i never paid for another ticket at that old stadium! In fact I sat next to his parents & brother when they were in town. If that arthritis didn’t mess him up so bad There would be no question that A.B. would of been a 1st ballot H.O.F.!!
I agree Belle deserves HOF...as does Kenny Lofton...but in the era of sluggers Lofton gets over looked...the guy scored from 2nd on a passed ball against Randy Johnson !!!...his defense ,stolen bases , base running and on his prime a .300 hitter he could change a game
Only man scarier than Albert before his time was Cobb, but Albert was a dominance on the diamond. That push he gives to that shortstop reminds me of the storys of Cobb and his sharpened cleets. 5 time All-Star who I had liked to seen beat the marlins in 97 during the series.
That ball didn't hit Belle. It hit his bat. If it hit him, it would have hit him in the hand. Getting hit by a 90 mph fastball in the hand, you're in pain.

I would say Albert. Bo Jackson was a beast, greatest pure athlete maybe all time but he has always been a pretty chill guy on and off the field. Albert was up there with Bo as far as talent on the baseball field but he was always pissed off and it seemed like he could explode at any moment. That being said Albert Belle is one of the best power hitters nobody talks about.

Albert Belle belongs in the prison HOF even though he has never been. I heard they started closing down prisons in Ohio because they thought he was coming.
Albert Belle is the Mike Tyson of baseball ⚾️
Angriest batter to ever play the game, what a beast.
Those are godlike numbers. Almost a career .300 hitter and with incredible career slugging and on base percentage. Definitely a HOF caliber player
Never will be HOF cuz of his behavior unfortunately

Don’t forget to mention he’s the only player to go 50 homers 50 doubles in a season. Did it in a shortened 144 game season too

My favorite player to watch bat. So reliably consistent and electric when he batted. So many great memories watching this legendary Indian's player.

The Dennis Rodman of baseball!
Belle was truly terrifying at the plate!!!
Albert Belle was an excellent player! I have a lot more respect for him now, than I did then. He just needed to learn to be a little more personable.
His stalking conviction in 2006 is the reason the movie Major League hasn’t aged well
The game he got hit in the hand and refused to go he had hit 3 HR in the game and wanted a chance for a 4th to tie the record.
He definitely should of won a MVP but the media hated him
He didn’t need to be a social butterfly, but he needed to be more personable. Belle would’ve theoretically collected a lot more votes.
Let’s not forget a couple of times he had a teammate in the running also which canceled out some votes
