I think as kids, we all thought she was this obnoxious villain. However, growing up is realizing that Carlotta's behavior is not only understandable, but totally reasonable. She had every right to freak out and be a diva.

At a younger age, i understood the portrayal of Carlotta to be spoiled and dramatic. Basically so you'd like Christine more. I fell for it. I but i never fell for the love of the phantom. Now as an adult, i see the phantom as the vicious, scary, and pretty much unredeemable character that he is and how much Charlotta was harassed and abused because of his obsession with Christine

I always thought Carlotta a spoiled prima donna. She was/is a huge star so she is going to be a "brat" just in that sense. Now add on a crazy "ghost" trying to kill her, and her thought that people are trying to replace her, I think her actions, for her, are understandable.
Phantom has been and will always be my favorite show!!
I enjoy your little takes of screen and stage!!!❤

Carlotta is literally just trying to do her job-after working HARD to get to her position as Diva-only to be constantly harassed, screwed over and have MULTIPLE MURDER ATTEMPTS ON HER LIFE bc the backseat manager decided the pretty, young, dancer girl has a nice voice. NOT ONLY THAT, but when Carlotta finally FINALLY gets what she thinks is better working conditions-the LAST chance she’s giving this fucking mad house-she is HUMILIATED onstage, her voice-HER MOST PRIZED INSTRUMENT!!-is damaged by the incel backseat manager AND a chandelier gets dropped on her. NOT TO MENTION THE MURDER OF HER HUSBAND LATER IN THE SHOW, after their contracts are held hostage by the ACTUAL OWNERS of the opera house, and forced to play their parts in the crazy incel backseat manager’s psychotic show!
Carlotta deserved better. Anyone who says otherwise must have seen a different show 💅🏽
(Btw I loved this video, you’ve got a new subscriber! Can’t wait to see more of these!!)

So, this was on my recommended but it's definitely relevant. I was a phan from the ages of 12 through my mid-20s. Absolutely obsessed with Erik, like pretty much everyone. Fave character.
But! Nothing gets someone over that quite as well as meeting someone else even MORE obsessed and being made to RP that character almost 24/7 because heaven forbid anyone have a normal conversation, I guess. Anyway, having gotten heartily sick of the man, I can tell you...the musical interpretation is...well, they did Carlotta so dirty with that.
If you look at the recent movie version (though...why would you?), when Carlotta is singing for the managers at the beginning, they're cringing and playing up the idea that this actually talented woman is a horrible singer. That they can't stand to listen to a classically trained soprano. Ironic, given that they manage an OPERA HOUSE and those tend to need classically trained singers.
Now, there IS an argument to be made for the fact that Carlotta, who is mentioned in the novel to have both slept her way to the top and sold out, is all technique and no artistry, whereas Christine, our virginal newcomer, would never. She's just all about the music, ya dig? But regardless, the novel makes it a point that Carlotta has a heavenly voice. I've seen a lot of fanfics play up the croaking as lol Carlotta sings bad, but, no. That's literally the opposite of the point of that scene. The novel spells it out. It's horrifying for everyone watching because Carlotta's voice would NEVER do that.
"There was consternation on Carlotta's face and consternation on the faces of all the audience. The two managers in their box could not suppress an exclamation of horror. Every one felt that the thing was not natural, that there was witchcraft behind it. That toad smelt of brimstone. Poor, wretched, despairing, crushed Carlotta!
The uproar in the house was indescribable. If the thing had happened to any one but Carlotta, she would have been hooted. But everybody knew how perfect an instrument her voice was; and there was no display of anger, but only of horror and dismay, the sort of dismay which men would have felt if they had witnessed the catastrophe that broke the arms of the Venus de Milo... And even then they would have seen ... and understood ..."
So, basically, Carlotta was threatened out of her job because an incel decided to promote the teenager he was stalking, and he did it so well that years later people are convinced she never had any talent to beging with.
