  • A friend and I did a 6 days, 5 nights hike in Jotunheimen, Norway. We did a loop going from Gjendesheim to Russvatn - Glitterheim - Spiterstulen - Gjendebu and back to Gjendesheim by ferry.
It was my first trip to this mountain range, and the experience I got was amazing. Like in the video I felt the epic majesticness of our nature and how grand the forces of nature are, even with the relative good weather we had.
I hope you enjoy this slideshow as much as I enjoyed making it. Its my first big project made in Adobe Premier and I have learned alot.

Thanks very much. Is this video following what is called the "Classic circular Jotunheimen" route?

Hi. I do not know of that route, so I'm not sure :) At least it was not the reason for route choice at the time.

Thanks for the video! Looks beautiful! Is it really legal to park a tent anywhere along the track?

Matthew James it is, as long as you disturb nobody and don't leave any litter!

As Alexander stated, yes you can. But normally you would set up about 50-100 meters from the trail so you dont bother any people walking by.

That's awesome! I am surprised by the good weather conditions in that time of the year. You didn't got any difficulties with the snow? We are planning a trip next June. Do you have any gps coordinates of this route to share? :)

      Hi!
The snow wasn't an issue at all. With hikingshoes you just walk on top of the snow, although gaiters could be handy if your shoes have a low profile.
I'm sorry, but I did not record any GPS for my trip. But my startingpoint was : 61,49 degrees north and 8,81degrees east, at the location "Gjendesheim".
Hope this helps, and have a great trip next June!

+Øystein B. M thanks for your reply. Sounds great! Do maybe have a day-to-day description to share? With walking hours and ascend/descend? :)

      Hi!
I do not have any GPS data, but I do have an estimate of the figures:
      Day 1 :
      Walk time : 7 hrs
      Distance : 18 km
      900m ascend / 750m descend
      Day 2 :
      Walk time : 6 hrs
      Distance : 13 km
      500m ascend / 300 descend
      Day 3 :
      Walk time : 7-8 hrs
      Distance : 16 km
      300 ascend / 550 descend
      Day 4 : Though day!! :)
      Walk time : 10 hrs
      Distance : 24 km
      1800m ascend / 1800m descend
We did an extra trip to a glazier which added about 4 hrs, 14km and 400 ascend and descend meters.
The trip to Galdhøpiggen alone was : 6hrs, 10km and 1400 vertical meters. (We did have a fast pace on this trip and with a more "reasonable" pace this would take about 7-8 hrs I would guess)
      Day 5 :
      Walk time : 8 hrs
      Distance : 26 km
      550m ascend / 650m descend
Day 6 was a ferry ride back to Gjendesheim.
Hope this was what you was looking for :)

Another important point I guess, is our carry weight. My backpack was about 23kg or about 50lbs, except for the hike on day 4, when it was sbout 8kg or 18lbs. We stayed at Glitterheim for two nights and unloaded alot of stuff in our room for that day.

Wow, thanks! So to sum up:
      Day 1: Gjendesheim - Russvatn ?
      Day 2: Russvatn - Glitterheim ?
      Day 3: Glitterheim - .. ?
      Day 4: Glitterheim - Galdhøpiggen - Spiterstulen ?
      Day 5: Spiterstulen - Gjendebu ?
