    I agree. Definitely the best JK book so far. Loved it. Already on my second reading. The development of Cormoran, Robin standing up for herself, the whole story is so well written. And the ending - oh my heart ❤ Now we need book 6 as soon as possible.

    I loved this book so so much, and it’s great to see someone else with similar excitement over it. Due to the controversy surrounding this book, I feel like people are afraid to even touch it. I found it “unputdownable” it is excellent ( a bit long and not easy to read in bed!!!). I did not find it transphobic- in fact it is almost difficult to find anything that suggests it. Please let Robert Galbraith write as many Strike books as she can. A very good review. Carry on Jo ⭐️

    Loved this video and your enthusiasm. I also chewed through it in a few days (think I was up until 3am on the Tuesday!) and Strike is definitely my favourite series of novels. Really enjoyed TB but it doesn’t top CoE for me. I agree with you that TB is very much a Cormoran book, and I guess this was suggested already by the first chapter, where we have Strike chatting to Polsworth, a friend of his we’ve heard of but so far not seen in the flesh before now. And the many chapters where Strike is in Cornwall - you really sense that this is the first time we get genuine insights into Strike and it’s pretty exciting to see him grow as a character. I’d say that this is a Robin book as well though, because she takes on a lot more responsibility professionally, and she also has to deal with the issues in her personal life. I love how JK is not afraid to show her vulnerable side and then her strength. The whole sequence of how she deals with Morris is brilliant to read. I think this is JK’s forte - describing the characters and letting them express themselves.
    It’s funny. Even though these are detective novels, and the final revelation in TB was a massive surprise, my favourite bits of these books are now the relationship between Strike and Robin. I know some reviewers have been critical of JK for how she devotes so much space to her two protagonists and the will they/won’t they dynamic, but for me at least it’s become the main reason I read these books. I love learning about their inner dialogues, and she does a fantastic job in making these believable. Personally, I’m really hoping they get together, but JK will probably string it out a while longer yet!
    A final thought: this book has been called transphobic and, to be honest, I just can’t see it. The book is 950 pages long, and I think within that there’s a single line which has a suspect (who appears once, and in the final act) wearing a piece of woman’s clothing to entice one of the many victims. To call this transphobic is to dilute the force of that term, which after all covers a real and important issue.

    • @beckybookreviews7820
      @beckybookreviews7820  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for sharing your views. I am glad you enjoyed it as much as I do. Given that JK said she has planned for there to be more strike books than HP, who knows when the will they won't they dynamic will get an answer but I am loving the ride! I really felt the two got to know each other on a much deeper level this book than ever before. I agree, I don't see this book as being transphobic. Creed is a man who uses a woman's coat and wig to lure his victims on two occasions only and it is only referenced once in the whole book. I have always thought is it possible the truth about Leda and her death will be discovered by strike somehow. Given this was a cold case I now feel it may be possible. But we will just have to wait and see what book 6 brings

    YES! Absolutely agree this is the best Strike novel of the lot. I'm commenting here after reading the two books that follow this, and although I loved them, especially Running Grave, this one remains my favourite. I think it is the story that grips you. I love a cold case anyway, and one written by Rowling/Galbraith is a total delight. The character growth of Cormoran, the insights into his family life, the Charlotte bits, and the wonderful agency staff we are introduced to - it's a fabulous book.

    Thanks for the great review. It's a great book, indeed. The best one of the series so far among the first five that I've read. Unfortunately books 6 & 7 haven't published in my country, yet. I don't know if any of them are even better than Troubled Blood.
    But I couldn't figure out one thing about your review. At 9:02 you show the symbol on the hardcover copy and tell J.K. did it again like she did in Lethal White and hide something brilliantly in plain sight. What did she hide in that symbol? What is it you show? I couldn't see it clearly and I'm very curious 😀

    • @beckybookreviews7820
      @beckybookreviews7820  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. That's such a shame the more recent books haven't been published yet where you live and I hope they will be soon. The symbol on the hardcover is the clock that Cormoran and Robin look at which not only shows the time but also depicts star signs and solar alignments. Given in the book they have to unscramble the notes of the previous investigator who became somewhat obsessed with the star signs, all the information as to who did it was in the clock face so JK gave us the answer on the hardcover. GENIUS!

    • @EgemenUregen
      @EgemenUregen 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@beckybookreviews7820 Oh, ok. I think the symbol on the hardcover copy is the exact same one with the one on the book cover but the clues aren't clearly visible on the cover because of the rain image and book title. Thanks 🙂
      I live in Turkey and I'm looking forward both to books 6 and 7 but Turkish publisher put almost three years between books, I don't know why. So we are two books behind. On the other hand the French translation of The Ink Black Heart (as Sang d'Encre) has been published just two or three weeks ago and the Spanish translation hasn't been published, at all. It seems like all countries publish Strike books with some strange timetables according to a reason. I don't know why they aren't published just within a few months like all the other JK books. And I also don't know why she or her team allow this. TV adaption of TIBH will be broadcast in a couple of months, I think and there are still readers from different countries who couldn't read a book originally published in 2022 in their own languages in 2024. It's strange, unfair and sad ☹️

    Hi, I just finally read this book (I’ve actually read all the first 5 books in the past 2 months - making up for lost time!). I agree with your assessment at the time of your review that this is the best one yet. I especially loved the developments between Strike and Robin. Almost couldn’t believe it was real when he was finally admitting certain things!! Anyway I was looking to see if you’d done a video on the TV adaptation of this one, like you and your sister (?) did for the first 4 series, but I don’t see one. What did you think of it? I saw the series before I read the book so I went at it backwards. It was interesting to find out while reading the book how they’d rearranged and simplified so many of the plot elements for the show, but totally to be expected with a book adaptation, especially trying to fit a thousand page book into 4 episodes! I’m kind of undecided on whether I liked certain scenes better in the book or show, such as the perfume buying scene at the end…both were great in different ways. The only criticism I would make, speaking as a Glaswegian born and bred, is that the dialogue spoken by Sam, who is supposed to be from Glasgow, just does not sound right. I think JK Rowing has confused Edinburgh dialect with that of Glasgow. Ok there were points where I was a bit frustrated that some elements weren't exactly told the way I liked but that is because I love this book so much. Adaptations will always have their strengths and faults but I had total faith the bbc and Sue Tully would direct this drama well and they did. Tom Burke was amazing, he took on so much with this drama and his performance moved me to tears. Acting those scenes with his real life mum must have been a tough but great experience to have. Great Review, Nice Hoodie! I have a couple of questions regarding the book, which I have been asking people, and I would love to hear your thoughts on them, Becky.
    The questions are (TROUBLED BLOOD SPOILER ALERT):
    1. Which coincidence helps Strike to solve the case? Is it that both Creed and Brenner (supposedly) used barbiturates?
    2. In the chapter in which Strike figures out what happened to Margot, he says, "Never trust a phone call whose provenance you have not checked!". Which phone call is this? Is it Janice's call to Irene to check whether they were still "going to the movie" on the night of Margot's disappearance? Or is it Janice pretending to be Clare on the phone call to Strike?

      Thanks for your comment! I am glad you enjoyed my review. For the coincidence I think it was to do with the drugs and who had access to them. In regards to the phone call, I think it was to do with Janice calling her son overseas thus the "time difference" he is referring to is between the UK and where he is

      @@beckybookreviews7820 Another thing I would like to hear your thoughts on: what is your opinion about Strike's chance encounter with Samhain Athorn? Had Samhain not gone for shopping the very morning in which Strike was having breakfast in Clerkenwell, Strike might not have been able to follow him and discover their residence, which ultimately helped him to solve the crime. Normally in any other detective novel something like this would have annoyed me, you cannot depend on luck to solve a crime. However, in 'Troubled Blood' though, luck seems to be a theme, with astrology, tarot, and a psychic involved; and Strike's good luck in locating the Athorns can be seen as a part of that theme. What did you think?

      @@NamasteBbooktube before I answer this, I had a brainwave about the phone call question earlier lol 😁. I suddenly remembered that Strike got the social workers number and phoned her but didn't officially confirm who she was through official routes (the phone number was via Athorn) so that is what he must have been referring to - can't believe I forgot!! In regards to Samhain, there is an element of luck of course, but I couldn't help but think of it as a fate/ destiny/ written in the stars moment JK wrote in so that it is an extra element relating to astrology and the beliefs some people have in it. However she has used this device before in other books of hers but only one or two, the consequence being that if that encounter didn't happen then the outcome could have been very different for the characters involved. Maybe JK saw it as serendipity 😁

    Is the troubled blood novel a continuation?

    • @beckybookreviews7820
      @beckybookreviews7820  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All the strike novels are focused on individual crime cases but the development of the characters such as strike and robin are continued through all the books. So you can read troubled blood for the individual crime case, but I recommend you read all the other strike books first in the order they were published to understand the character developments of those in every book else so things won't make sense

      @@paulinetaylor4966 I would recommend audible for audiobooks. Here in the UK it is £7.99 a month. Every month you get a free credit to buy an audiobook with and you get access to exclusive audiobooks and loads of them are free along with podcasts. So the usual cost of a paperback each month would give you all of that and a credit to download a book for free
