the song from Davy Crockett king of the wild frontier, starring Fess Parker. song sung in the alamo before the big battle. no copyright infringement intended. I DO NOT OWN.
believe it or not, this wasnt supposed to be a movie, its a collection of pieces of the show combined into a movie, surprisingly done well, although i believe the other davy crockett movie was actually filmed to be a movie
Farewell to the mountains Who’s mazes to me We’re more beautiful far Then eden could be The home i redeemed From the savage and wild The home I have loved As a father his child The wife of my bosom Farewell ye all In the land of the stranger I rise or I fall
And that they have accepted their fates, knowing that no relief or reinforcements are coming, and to surrender would mean death by firing squad. Why not go out on your own terms, in battle?
One of my favorite Alamo memories I was born in the 80's however the David Crockett and the King of Wild Frontier was one of my favorite Disney Movies before Aladdin
my grandpa watched these movies with me when i was a young kid. I watched them recently and this song made me reminisce about my grandpa and miss the good times we had
As I leave the home of my childhood, I sat this morning in the sunny back bedroom contemplating the departure to come and this song came back to me. It stayed in my mind all these years. Waiting for this time?
I grew up loving Fess Parker, and to me he was Davy Crockett. Like you I love John Wayne, but I have chosen never to watch "The Alamo" because I cannot fathom anybody playing Davy Crockett but Fess Parker.
Bryscen Rorah I can live with your placement of "Davy Crockett's", Fess Parker&John Wayne are interchangeable for 2nd & 3rd place for me. Historically, Billy Bob was probably the most accurate of the three.
I remember reading his obituary in a newspaper the day after. I was sad to see him go, and sad that his death wasn't marked with more notoriety, considering how huge the Davy Crockett legend was that he helped perpetuate.
I own all of them on DVD..started watching them when i was 4 and 5...fess parker was truly an amazing man... its a shame people my age (22) will never know who he was...glad my father bought these originally for me on vhs! RIP Mr. Parker :(
I have been trying to find this song since Fess Parker just passed away and thank God for You Tube and to who ever posted this song. R.I.P Davy Crockett.
My dog was put down no more than 4 hours ago. About 15 minutes before the vet came I played this song for her on my Stratocaster. If nothing else be left of me or my works when eternity passes, let this lonely comment remain as a last testament to her existence. If this means nothing to anyone else, at least there will be something left to mark her life in the end.
Leonardo's Truth I actually remember seeing Fess's obituary in the paper the day after he died. I couldn't help but think, "Ain't that a shame. This man inspired a massive craze in the '50s and defined a huge part of Disney's identity, as well as America's at the time, and no one makes a big sob about how he's finally gone. That's just not right."
Ikrani I know its been a few years since you lost your best friend. I just had to put my ol buddy Jack down a week ago. I think its fitting you mentioned her. Bless you and her memory.
Hurts like hell when someone you love passes whether they be human or nonhuman. Just remember there is a power greater than all of us who loves us with an everlasting love and that includes your dog as well. We all were given breath by the same Creator.
I was a kid of about 6 years old when my parents took me to San Antonio to see the Alamo. I was disappointed when I saw Davy Crockett's portrait because I thought it should have looked like Fess Parker. Those were some brave and courageous men who died at the Alamo. Gave Sam Houston more time to form his army before he had to battle with Santa Anna. Just think, if it hadn't been for those men's brave sacrifice, Texas might still be part of Mexico, and the illegals would be trying to get into Oklahoma and Louisiana.
I can't think of better casting .. ever .. than in this instance of these great actors Fess & Buddy playing these fabulous characters. So too, was the Great Southern Bond forged here, in this case between Tenn & Texas, thanks to Davy & his boys at The Alamo.
I sit, meditate and look over my green Ouachitas and listen, recounting fifty years homesteading my place on the Ridge above the Middle Fork of the Saline River. The wind is in the wolf tree below me.
@@crockythetaffer2 Edwin Pacheco....orale vato, Davy Crockett was not a hero! He was a coward trying to escape the Alamo only to be caught and executed per the orders of Santa Ana, pendejo!

Roger Cortez bro I’ve learned about Him since I was a little kid no where does it say that he tried to run away. And if he did he was about the only one left and what would you do if thousands of Mexican Soldiers were after you. You would run as well. You just mad bc the Texans kicked there ass in the end
I think I saw Davy Crockett at least 100 times before I was five. Now, at 15, I show it to my little brothers, who love it just as much. You were the coolest! Rest in Peace Mr. Parker. :'(
So long Fess and Buddy, you were my boyhood hero's. Thanks for stirring my imagination and love of history. I still have Davy Crocket bubble gum cards.
David Crockett was captured during the battle of the Alamo. He was later killed as an enemy combatant. This was verified by a Mexican soldier's diary who fought in the battle. It is interesting to note that the surviving slave's versions of the events were never taken into consideration nor are their names or full names accounted for. It's a disservice to the true history of Texas.
I'm sure there's a big difference between the real David Crockett who died at the Alamo, and the mythological legend, the one portrayed on television who was adapted for entertainment purposes; but I still love the legend and will never forget the show with Fess Parker, who I thought was the real Davy when I was a boy. On afterthought, I think he just had a good agent. bbbbbboB
toby blake not much of a difference. The real davy Crockett was a colorful personality. Use to sing songs like this. Was said to of sang songs with a banjo at the alamo in real life

Why shore
By far!
Something like this would never be made today.
I met Fess Parker at a showing of the Alamo in London when I was a youngster and he gave me his hat.
Farewell to the mountains
Who’s mazes to me
We’re more beautiful far
Then eden could be
The home i redeemed
From the savage and wild
The home I have loved
As a father his child
The wife of my bosom
Farewell ye all
In the land of the stranger
I rise or I fall
Thanks for posting the lyrics.
Fess Parker will always be the best Davy Crockett
Billy Bob Thornton wasn’t bad, but Fess definitely shall always hold a special place for me
What makes this so sad is you know they will die but you keep hoping that they will live
Remember Reach
And that they have accepted their fates, knowing that no relief or reinforcements are coming, and to surrender would mean death by firing squad. Why not go out on your own terms, in battle?
Loved Fess Parker singing this. It was very somber and set the mood for the coming last stand at the Alamo.
Yes it captures the mood of the individual man there.
This song kind of makes me teary-eyed.
Even since I was a kid.
