I lift & pt at 11pm and started sending pictures of my watch at midnight to 1am when I finish. A few friends and my buddies I served with in the Corps usually get a good laugh. I have never been a morning person like Jocko but at 48 I can still hang with the younger guys. Just not until about noon!

“Power to be able to detach,” “it’s not that easy” ..then Jocko rolls!!!
One of our 5 children who is all in with Jocko (his books, podcast, just sent me this). Runs his life his business affairs accessing these “way up here” attitudes!
I had the honor and privilege to meet and hear in person with some great friends our mentors and business partners listen to (took notes) Jocko & Lief Babin’s story in 2015 and how “Extreme Ownership,” came to be.
Our son Alex is a phenomenal man at 38yrs young. I remember being 38! It was the beginning of a new season that I will not turn back from. Monomial Focus has it’s rewards “superpower” “detachment” is the answer to all my problems.

    Detachment is a super power.
    Think strategically over tactically.
Do things actively. Reading, listening, learning etc.
We have to force yourself to open our mind constantly.
Our mind is naturally closed or in the process of being closed.

I just ask myself: isn't it boring to listen to the people actively and honestly, when you already been there before (in your life) and you already know at least 5 or even 10 answers/solutions to come up with, that solved this issues in the past.
    They're having now.
And you are far ahead in your mind and mental development.
Doesn't it feels, like the people are permanently dragging you down/ back?

I appreciate this lesson. It's easy to let anger be an instinctual reaction. Been getting better to the point some chick yelled at me because her dog was going nuts when mine walked by, the mouthpiece shot back without thinking, but started thinking after the first 2 sentences and told her sorry for raising my voice and withering her a nice day. Granted, it was probably the most aggressive nicety shed ever gotten. But its progress. I'm going to start doing the step back and chin up, then think.

Great podcast. I am a lot of what he explained in the beginning. I have to listen many times and sometimes make notes on these complex lessons. It' not that I don't understand them but rather that I forget which may be the same thing. Either way, I need a continual reminder of these seemingly obvious ideas right now. That being said, I'll just keep rewatching. Jocko you really make a different man.

I often times throw my training partners off when rolling jiu-jitsu because I took this advice. I will often times pause in a bad position, take a couple deep breaths, and relax for a second. People sometimes even release pressure and ask if I'm ok. I've learned not to let that bother me but rather to use it to my advantage. I simply say "yep" and proceed to execute my escape. 🤣

Meal plan for the week/month however you want to do it (physically write out a plan of meals for your and the family with the ability to "flex" to another day if things happen. Schedule plan for your off work time (specifically write down what you want to do outside of your job). Family plan. Dedicate time to the well being and connections of your own family unit.

something i've been thinking about for a while: about 24:00 jocko starts talking about hunting and focus. my theory goes like this: ADHD is a remnant genome from the hunter class of the tribe of ancient times. inability to focus, unless hyper focused. constant scanning for stimuli (target). females significantly less likely to have symptoms. physical build of males tends to be average, lean, dense, scrappy. high correlation with insomnia and mood disorders; perhaps due to hunting at night and need to revalidate every so many days with new fantastic achievement (successful kill). what you think? drop your thoughts below.

I would like to pose a question to your example: what if humans have outgrown the simplicity of our animal counter parts and our biggest issue now is managing our own neurological complexity? Humans think and physically move on levels that aren't often acknowledged and that most other animals simply don't. In our day and time, humans phenotypically vary widely from each other with more correlation to lifestyle than anything else. The most important issues now are humans living productively and coexisting with one another- the most neurologically complex creatures on the planet... sometimes I think about it too.

    • @plutonium120
      @plutonium120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@jacobhunt5469 good thoughts man. 'outgrown' seems to be a bit of a complex way of stating it, and i wouldn't say im 100% convinced that we have. i think we are half animal, half human overlord, which is what is challenging. we are still part animal, but with complex overrides and all kinds of other side functions. so the challenge is, satisfying that animal side of us in a way that is not destructive to others, so those other functions can work properly. i think we all have to figure that part out for ourselves (my favorite method is martial arts), but i think that is also the key; once we get those raw, primitive tendencies out of the way, then we can use our energy more productively, more efficiently, for more positive and constructive things.
however, there's a tangent to my argument: does nullifying those raw primitive forces inside of reduce creative energy that could potentially be otherwise channeled to these constructive pursuits?

Another term used for the Silent leader is the Servant leader. I prefer this term as the title reminds the leader to be humble and that leadership brings more responsibilities than privileges. This does not mean the leader does everything themselves though. Understanding the difference between serving your team as a leader and trying to do everything yourself is key. However it does mean you always put your team before yourself.

hah! Sucker punches or flanking. I'm experiencing a great deal of it. I have to say, I have to be half way in and half way out a great majority of the time to see set ups coming. lol

I truly regret not do JUDO at school when I had the chance. My school provided very cheap JUDO classes given by one of the best Spanish Judo practitioner of all time and world top judoka at the time. But, instead I decided to play futsal with my friends and skip all the lessons.

For podcast 338 it would only be appropriate to have on a scout sniper. Good!

    Someone please help me!
I am having a very hard time understanding this idea of detachment.
If I need to finish a project for work and am having a hard time figuring it out I should detach from it? How is that going to help?

When Jocko mentioned JP, was he referring to Jordan Peterson? I love the interviews between those two.

It was his boy JP Dinnell, check out episodes 46, 246, and 309. He’s the real deal. The Jordan Peterson podcasts are some of my favorite, hopefully he’ll be back on soon
