Ok, I'm an absolute devotee of Scofield, so it's no wonder I love this, but actually, one of the loveliest things about this video is seeing all these top tier big band players grinning from ear to ear as they listen to him play... So much love ☺

She isn't directing the performance, this band could play this in their sleep. The conductor is just a traditional, albeit wholly superfluous, holdover from a long past era.
Scofield is that player that it's easy to write off as being sloppy or distracted or searching until you realize that what he does takes 10 Xs the attention and accuracy than playing every note dead on like a robot does. He's a master of both velocity and inflection which is sooooo overlooked by most players. Is he the most listenable guitarist? No. Is he the most organic and close to a living musical expression in almost all that he does? Very likely. To go where he has to go, psychologically, to play as he does it's a kind of leap of faith that 99.9% of guitarists are simply too afraid to make - either because of stage fright or they have some twisted expectation of their 'brand', they're trying too hard to 'be something' they've imagined, they get in their own way so much that they then either stumble or play within super tight tolerances - which leads to their playing 'the expected' cookie cutter 'safe' plastic human jukebox generic ego drenched dribble.
@@ProbableCauseBluesBand I agree with the exception that I find him extremely listenable - but I love crazy experimentation and dissonance. He is probably my all-time favorite guitar player but I am a total Sco fanboy though.
