Thank you teacher mike for helping me a knowledge about English its is difficult for me how to talk how to read but to watching your videos i learn more thank you so much
Wow, your lessons are so damn useful, I mean very useful and it's quite suitable for English learners as well. And your method of teaching helps a lot to make it much easier for us to understand. Considering that you speak clearly and gently. I must say we can't thank you enough. ❤🙂
Thanks Mike for such a quick response so let's say that whenever we offer something we should assume the person will say yes. :) I know that that's the subtle diferrence between: need some help OR need any help for ex. but i'd never thought of using ANY when makiong an offer or when I say: Can i have some cookies? (rather than : any..cause we assume that the other person will accept the request..) anyway I'm an English teacher and that's what we teach in our classes following the content of updated books..we use the StartUp series and in level 1 in the unit where they explain the difference between some and any in questions they say that they are generally used interchabeably with the exception of when we make an offer or request. Thank you again.I'v watched your video about the difference between in school/in the street and at school/on the street and I learned something new: I'd always thought that in school or in the street was wrong. Thanks again!
"Can I...?" is not an offer.😉 In that case,"any" means "one or more", and "some" means "two or more". Howeve, asking for cookies, "any" is unusual. It would be either "a cookie" (asking for one) or "some cookies" asking for (more than one).
Does she have any siblings? She doesn't have any money. I will visit you any day. My bird can attack any person he doesn't know. Chompi loves playing with any phone charger that he finds in my house. Please, take any one that you like. He doesn't trust anyone. I can read any book in English. Any topic you teach us is interesting and helpful. Thanks a lot, Mike.😊😊

Hi! I've been watching your videos for a few weeks now and I find them very informative! Just one thing: I've learned than in questions some/any are usually used interchangeably with a little difference in meaning..like ..need some help? (You expect a "yes" answer") OR Need any help? yes..but my confusion arises 'cause I've learned tha when making an offer or a request you should always use some: Can I have some coffe? OR Would you like some coffee? Now I'm a little bit confused when you say you can use SOME or ANY when making an offer.
Hi and thanks! It sounds like you understand the situation correctly. The difference is basically that we are more likely to use SOME when we think the answer is yes and ANY when it's a real question/we don't know. So you don't have to use SOME when making an offer, but if you think they're going to accept your offer, SOME is the more natural choice.
Thank you for sharing Teacher
