People really need to watch the video to the end. Yes, she took Mr. Walnut to the vet, she fed him dry food only and he actually got better on the same day.

Thanks for including some advice besides “Just go see a vet”.
I’ve had the sudden care of some animals just thrust upon me; seeing a vet wasn’t an option because I didn’t have enough money. When I tried looking up information on what could be wrong when problems emerged, all I could find was a bunch of self-righteous people online insisting you go to the vet and nothing else that was useful.
The end result was that animals died in my care without me being able to know what was wrong or how to help, because I couldn’t see a vet. At least if I come across any hamsters again involuntarily and wet tail is a concern, I’ll remember this video on stuff I can at least try to do.

Get well soon Mr Walnut! I never knew wet tail could be treated so well and the hamster could be fully back to normal. That is a relief for Clementine if she ever gets it! (I doubt it) the hammies are all looking cute!

This is the first video I've seen on your channel, but I'm already in love. The text, the music, the editing, the effects, the high-quality background, the drawings, and of course the information is so well done. Even though I don't really like hamsters, this video was very satisfying, nice, and great. I love your cute hamsters too! They're just adorable, even for me ❤️🐹 I hope your hamsters will still be healthy in the future and live a great life! 💕

Aww pore mr. walnut glad he is feeling better. i’ve had hamsters my entire life and I’ve had several with wet tale but my newest hamster Cocoa was diagnosed with wet tale about 2 weeks ago. I was so worried I rushed to the vet right away I was extra stressed about because I noticed a lot of blood in her stool she is almost exactly One year old and I was so scared I thought she would die. after 48 hours I lost hope… but I kept giving her antibiotic and after about three days I started seeing an improvement and after about four days I started seeing her pooping normal I was so relieved .❤😌 so I can say having sick hamsters is never fun but helping them out and seeing them get better it’s always one of the best feelings ever. And even though Hammys don’t live forever giving them the best life possible after they pass you just feel so happy and proud that you made such a big impact in such a little creatures life❤ I’m glad that both of our precious little babies get to live happy rest of their life’s.

Fortunately my hamsters never had wet tail. They ate fresh veggies and an occasional tiny piece of ground meat but tended to ignore the store-bought seed mixtures and I cleaned the cage every day.
I found a vet when Freddy got ill but the diagnosis was that he had cancer and unfortunately there was nothing they could do for him. He did live a happy two years, four months and three days however…

One day I was quietly waiting outside my hamster’s enclosure because it was the time of day he usually woke up wanting to free range. After a while when he didn’t wake up I opened his door to check on him and he seemed fine so I just waited a while longer when suddenly the whole room filled up with the most horrible smell. At first I couldn’t figure out what was happening because Hammond NEVER smells bad. When I realized the smell was coming from his cage I picked him up and his whole bottom area was covered in smelly wet poo. He seemed weak and his ears were back and kind of crinkled up like they do when he’s not feeling well. I called his vet right away but she couldn’t get him in until the next day. In the mean time she told me to switch out his nesting material with clean paper towels and to do so every time they became soiled. She also told me to stop everything but his food mix - no treats or fresh food. She also told me to make sure he had plenty of fresh water and to mix up some Critical Care Herbivore with 3/4 water and 1/4 unflavored pedialite and to sprinkle half a capsule of a good multi-strain probiotic into the critical care mixture and feed him one 50cc syringe of this. I did as she directed - he wasn’t happy about the syringe feeding but didn’t wrestle with me too much because he was so weak and tired. I moved some blankets and pillows into the room his enclosure is located so I could stay with him and give him clean bedding whenever he needed it and the wet tail literally stopped after four hours. I stayed with him for another two days though because I was so worried. It took him that long to recover and get back to his usual self. After two days he got up and wanted to free range. It was a shorter range than usual but the next day his free range was back up to his usual hour to an hour and a half. I still don’t know what exactly caused it but I am so grateful I caught it right away. Wet tail can kill a hamster so quickly. I just wanted to share that in case it helps another person’s hamster.

My hamster has ever had wet tail.. I was in panic and scared. I didn't took her to the vet, sadly.
But she made it and healed really fast, I just left her for a few days, and gone!
Her name's Cookie. So I left Cookie food and a waterbottle in her enclosure, but I will not change for 3 days and so I left her.
Then she came back clean, and healthy. But I don't know how her wet tail is gone. It was yellow, wet, and really felt bad.
I found out since Cookie was walking with her place wet, and picking up Cookie felt like wet fur on the bottom.
Please don't try what I did, just take your hamster to the vet, and get medicine. Get well soon Walnut!

This was very wholesome, and my friend's hamster has diarrhea so thanks! Also, I had a guinea pig named Potato who started losing a big amount of hair, then 3 days later, she died. i was very depressed for 4 weeks. I'm pretty sure it was a skin infection. I know, a Guinea Pig and a Hamster are very similar, but not the same thing.

Two of my mice often get really strange looking stools, but they don’t need a vet. It’s because they get stressed super easily and because of how fast they eat. They eat like they never get fed 😂 Both of them have IBS I’m guessing, which is a digestive problem. I myself have it and it sucks…any small difference in your lifestyle can trigger it. It takes a couple of days, but their stools DO go back to normal. That will look different for each animal though. My little guy that recently passed away, had really bad anxiety and didn’t like to be touched. He was a loner and I basically left him alone, leaving him to play on his own without me around. He had diarrhea all the time, but his stools also went back to how they should be every once in a while. So it fluctuated with him and he passed away from old age. I always watched him, in case something DID come of it though. Anxiety and digestive issues are common in animal’s just as often as they are in humans.

How do you go about cleaning them if they get wet tail? Would a damp cotton pad help? I don't like the idea of them grooming themselves clean if this were to happen but we can't exactly give them baths either. Would a sand bath still work when it's loose stools?
I lost one of my winter whites to loose stools, most likely due to parasites, and all I felt I could do was wipe him with tissues. It happened so quickly and I nursed him a full night waiting for vets to open but he sadly passed away right before they did. 😔

Many years ago, like, maybe 20 or so years ago, I had a male teddy bear hamster who had constant diarrhea. He never had normal poop, he only had diarrhea. He was healthy, eating well, and overall pretty happy and playful. I cleaned his bum every day with a napkin, though. I wonder if there was some bacterial imbalance, or maybe his digestive system never formed right. If anyone knows what might cause this please let me know. This went on for the whole first year of his life. Then, one day, the diarrhea suddenly vanished and never came back. He started having normal hamster poop. One thing this video didn't mention was the smell. Oh, how badly hamster diarrhea smells. As bad as human diarrhea. The smell is worse than the sight.

Wet tail is truly the deadliest thing a hamster can get. I used to work at PetSmart (ugh, I know) and worked in the PetCare department. I tried my best with the resources given by the company and what I could afford on a meager paycheck at the time, but there was only so much that could be done. Enclosures were too small, it was too noisy, and the food was low quality garbage up until my final two months there.
I saw too many hamsters die because of PetSmart neglect and refusal to provide adequate habitats. Anyone who wants to get a hamster should get one from a respected breeder.
