    I just love you man!!!
    You're the FIRST TH-camR/guntuber I've heard that actually said a product was too pricey when referring to the FX unit. I've had guntubers hide my comments in their channel because I said the same thing about products their are pimpin. I can't stand it when guntubers try to convince shooters that they need to pay these crazy high prices just to improve their kit.

    I have a Magneto Sporter, and I made a mount for it using an old Caldwell front shooting rest. The bag was removed and I drilled a hole in it and mounted the Magnetospeed to it. It works and a lot cheaper than the commercial made mounts for it.

    An excellent example of empirical testing. I used a Labradar extensively when first launched and found it to be overly sensitive to direction etc. and wouldn’t record my 22-284 95g projectiles nor .17 HMR or 0.17 centrefires, so sold it on. Some months later I bought another together with the external microphone as mentioned by you with a sucker pad attached to the rifle stocks. This particular device now worked splendidly and records everything and of course using the Doppler feature it’s direction pointing is not so critical. I also use a battery pack, so no issues there. However I think it needs a revamp in overall size as you mention plus Bluetooth connectivity etc.

    Have a Lab R, got ball joint to attach to it got a square piece of 3/8" thick nylon and mounted it to the ball unit, works great, and one great feature is the large display screen for us older guys. One great feature is that you can get a trigger sensor for the LR, change the doppler to trigger setting, and I never use AA batteries, use power supply like yours. Now I see the new Garmin unit, pocket size and they work great I hear, will let you know if I pull the trigger. The new Garmin will be the best of the bunch down the road I think, and price comparable to LR. Great video showing us all the options between the 3 you showed. Thx, 👍👍👍👍

    The Lab Radar may be better because it has variable trigger type and sensitivity, so if you're at a busy outdoor range other shooters don't trigger it. You can also change trigger type to a plug in cable which velcros to your firearm. Also has a plug in for an external power supply. If the FX had those features it would be more attractive. It's a chore and sucks for prone, but I have had an Oehler35p for decades.

    While I agree with setup time, the Oehler 35P is the graph that all the others are rated against.
    I dont have an issue with setup, I can normally get mine set-up during a cold line without issue.
    I've had my 35P for almost 30 years, and it's still as accurate or better than what's available now.
    But if time is an issue, or simplicity of set-up is what you're looking for, the 35P is not for you.
    You can speed up the set-up of the 35P by labeling the screens 1, 2, & 3, bungling the cables together and placing a mark (red tape) on the bundled cable to mark the distance to place the first screen.

    An informative video as all yours are. I’ve had a LabRadar for some time and it works fine for how I use it. I’ve never installed a battery and always use the external pack. I made my own stand using an inexpensive ball tripod head. I have also always used a recoil operated trigger that attaches to a small Picatinny rail section on a handguard or chassis or just taping it in place on my ancient 52E using easily-removed electrical tape. As for mounting the Magneto Speed with the Gray Ops mount on a Picatinny rail, there are inexpensive adapters to go from Arca to Pic and the reverse. I have adapters so I can use a Ckye-Pod with Arca head on an AR and an Atlas bipod with Pic head with an Arca rail.

    I put my Labradar in front of the barrel when I'm using a suppressor, since it needs the muzzle blast to activate the radar. There is a mode to trigger the measurement with the radar but I've never used it, because I expect it will quickly drain the battery.
    The other thing is that the Dopplers measure the velocity from 25-100 yards in front of the barrel and EXTRAPOLATE that back to muzzle velocity. There must be some assumptions made in that process which might explain some of the difference in readings between the units.

    well, I use a MK set up on my MagnitoSpeed, which is very similar to the Gray Ops used here. What is not shown is the time to set-up and adjust the the Grey Ops/Mk to guarantee shot pick-up and not damage he MagnetoSpeed. I have also found the I often have to readjust when changing rifles due to barrel length or chassis/stock type. For the money its still hard to beat the MagnetoSpeed V3

    Great review! I've had the LabRadar and Magnetospeed chonographs for 2 to 3 years now. My practice range is full of baffles, posts and concrete making it difficult for doppler. I'm guessing, if you have a wide open range it shouldn't be an issue. For example, while doing a 10 shot ladder test, the LabRadar won't pick up 2 to 3 shots. I've used the JKLprecision trigger, set the unit up and aimed it many, many different ways according to what others have tried without much success. It'll work for a number of shots, then stop picking up. I think it's a good unit but my range is giving it problems. Just my 2 cents.

    • @farmerbrown84
      @farmerbrown84 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are worried about accuracy, then the Magnetospeed isn't ideal as by default you need to attach it to the barrel. It screws up group sizes and results in a POI shift. You can measure speed, but only speed, you need to remove it to do accuracy testing or zeroing. If you can attach it to an external rail (ARCA or Picatinny), then that fixes that, but you need to have every firearm set up to take that attachment system.

    Excellent comparison Ray. I have a Labradar and really enjoy it. The FX does seem intriguing but if they could price it at the same price as the Labradar (if they could) it would be a no brainier. I have contemplated adding a magneto speed but I don't necessarily want to carry around an extension. Time will tell but having one of the three is awesome but in a perfect world I do believe that having both a magneto speed and a Doppler based system would be a well rounded setup for any environment.

    I feel you left out a lot of information about the FX unit. The fact that it can read velocity at 25yard increments out to 100 yards and display calculated BC is huge for competitive shooters. It also explains why it’s slower to output the speed.

    Yes, you put the suppressor even with the Doppler radar. Like the instructions say. And when using a muzzle brake that vents to the rear, you need to put it on the operator side of the unit. When using a brake the vents straight to the sides, you can put it in front of it. Clearly you use a brake that vents to the rear so you're hitting that labradar with all that gas and concussion. It's literally in the directions.

    The fact that the 2 mounts you mentioned cost as much as the Magnetospeed Sporter and more than half of the cost of the V3!! I'm all for spending for nice quality but when the mounts are costing this much it is time for someone to start making $100 mounting setups which would still make a great return on investment and bring prices back down to earth.

    Magneto speed pro : work for shotgun ..

    Edit: I agree about the price on the FX. I think for the FX to be competitive with the Labradar, you need to have a comparable product at a lower price, or a superior product at a similar price.

    Hello X-Ring,
    another function of the Labradar, which you did not mention in the video, allows the measurement of up to 5 bullet velocities at different distances up to 100 m. Whether this is really a big advantage I would like to leave undecided. In any case, it is a "nice to have". I think I will buy a Magenetospeed V3. I hope that the Gray Ops mount will also be available in Austria. At the moment I am in contact with Grey Ops.
    Many greetings from Austria, Hans

      Downrange velocity is a good measurement if you are trying to measure BC. It works pretty well. I've calculated BC and use it to predict downrange velocities later on and it worked.

    Nothing like the FX out there now. It's value is not in the simple testing here, It's the fact that it can calculate BC. You need to know the speed downrange of a bullet to do that. Can the Magneto tell me what the speed of a bullet is at 100 yards?

    That magneto speed is at a real loss, compared to the LabRadar & FX Radar which show up to 5 different range nodes of velocity ( including muzzle)- this allows you to make corrections to the output results on ballistic apps for long range use. The magneto only gives you the velocity at the muzzle. I've got the lab Radar and I'm definitely not putting a grand down on that cheap looking fx Radar with a tiny dark screen. Never had an issue with battery life on the LabRadar....and to have a lit up bigger screen I can actually view easily makes up for the longer set up time for me personally.

    Probably a dumb question, but trying to compare their relative velocity readings would be nearly impossible right? Because the second the bullet leaves the barrel its slowing down, so aince neither can be dialed in to take a velocity at the exact same point in flight, youre naturally going to have some deviation. What if the 4fps difference is just simply one chrono reading 1 foot or 6 inches further in flight? Just curious, i understand what doplar radar is but im not certain on how its sort of aimed.

    Great testing as always. There's one thing that I would've liked to have seen tested. Since alot of us shoot at a range with other shooters, how would they all be affected? I know the Labradar picks up others shots when armed sometimes, so you have to use a recoil trigger. Does the FX have the same problem?

    My labradar is a frustrating thing. I've not been able to master placement of the device such that it will consistently read shots. I have had it pick up other rounds too like you said. The range I shoot on is actually cut into the side of a PA mountain so it's open on one side and rock on the other. I do seem to get better results when I'm away from that rock wall. None of the reviews I've seen have taken into account a range setting where there are other shooters around you. My question is if it will discriminate between your rifle and the shooters around you. The Magnetospeed would be fine of course, but what of the radar units?

    • @farmerbrown84
      @farmerbrown84 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends how big the rifle is next to you and how brutal the muzzle brake. If you have a girl with a .22 a few meters away, it works ok, but if you have somebody with a 50 and a massive brake then it will trigger it. The Labradar uses the muzzle blast to switch on the radar.

    Thanks for putting this out there and helpful for sure. I'm somewhat new to load development sounds like the MS V3 may be the best value option on the market -- especially if coupled with a third-party mount/extension of some sort. However, my question is will the MS V3 affect the POI in any way ** even ** if free floated via a chassis mount or extension? Does the bayonet sensor, being so close to the projectile, affect the bullet flight path in any way? I dunno? So asking those far more experienced than myself. Thanks.

    • @XRING
      @XRING  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching Darrel and great question. As long as you are using an extension we have seen zero shift in impacts from having the bayonet close to the bullet. With or without it will produce the same impacts as long as the standoff is used. Thanks for asking a great question.
