Oh Julia, If I bookmark another of your technique videos, I will be trapped in my basement attempting to get the same beautiful blends that you achieve. I keep being amazed with your ability to be perfectly clear, comfortable/casual phasing and the way you make us feel we can do anything you put YOUR mind to. You were born to teach art. My fear vanishes into the mist as I create joy for others with ever advancement using your techniques. Please keep the videos coming... I really have no reason to sleep or eat anymore. You are our Obi Wan Kenobi of card making!
Julia, super super awesome card! I just love my Stabilos for a very long time and now I'm so happy about your videos. Here you show more and more reasons why everybody should do so. Thanks!
That is a beautiful card once again!! I love that you introduced Stabilo pens, I knew of them for a while but never thought they could do magic like that! Thank you so much for sharing !
I have a pen like this.. And i wasn't able to use it ever since 2009-2010. 😂😂 Now I tried opening it again, and decided to look how to use it. Thank you so much for the video. I never knew it can be used with a paintbrush. ❤👏👍🌸
So happy to have found your amazing talent via Jennifer McGuire's blog today. I've spend a very happy few hours watching your videos and reading through you blog posts. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with so many of us!
Gorgeous Julia! I'm gonna have to purchase those pens, it will be different, as I've been using copics for the past few years! Your card is just stunning!
oh wow this is just beautiful, love how you colour fade the pens. I need to buy these and the butterfly stamp and the ink! Brilliant video. I'm now learning art again after 30years and I wanted to work with pens but wasn't sure where to start thank you.
Julia, thank you so much for the excellent tutorial! I will carve out some time tomorrow and try my hand blending. I enjoyed this lesson and our virtual visit very much1 Thank you!
Hi Julia, I'm from Germany too. 😉 Great card. I just bought the stamps, they are on their way from UK to me. Will try a similar card. Lovely wishes, Birgit ✨
Julia, I am a new subscriber to your channel. I saw you on Jennifer M. tutorial, and I love your card !!! I really love this butterfly card, it's so alive with all those vibrant colors !!! I love the way these pens work, but I just bought the Spectrum Aqua markers and have not used them yet !! I'm hoping I will be happy with them!! So thank you for your tutorials, I have a lot of catching up to do !!!!!! Doris
Awsome. Wish I knew this earlier, and found your TH-cam earlier, I gonna try it tomorrow. Is it also working with Stazon.. Got these pencils at home. In thinner and wider sizes..
It has been real surprise to discover this way to use stabilo pens!!! Thank you. I am trying to search the video on the mushrooms but I can't find it... And I have a question... Here you used some kind of tattoo and I suppose they are waterproof... Is there any fineliner which can be used to draw contours and just after color the sketch with this technique? I suppose that micron Sakura or similar should blend together with the stabilo or not? Thank you in advance
Hi Glinda, I'm not sure what you mean by "tattoo" - are you referring to the stamped image?! If you want to draw your own to color in, use a pen that is waterproof. A lot of fine liners are (at least in the art world). It will say so on the pen, and just experiment :)
I love the simplicity of this card. You did an excellent job on the instructions on blending them. I only have Tombow and Distress markers. Are these markers like the Tombow or Distress Markers? I want to try this technique.
StampNStitch Hi there! I think the Stabilo's are close to the Distress Markers in type (I don't have the Tombow markers). I personally find that the Stabilo's give more intense colors than my Distress markers, but the technique itself will work with your markers too.
Hi Julia, I have a question about these pens- they seem pretty thin, so don't they run out of ink quickly? By the way, I love this card. It's so pretty and vibrant!!
Julia, I Love love this card and your design!! Can I recreate this card using a different stamp set? Of course I'll link your video too so my viewers can see where my inspiration came from. TFS. Hugs, Joyce:)
I JUST found ur videos & WOW! You ARE an incredible artist! I don’t have any true artistic skill BUT, my oldest daughter, Sophie, has a true natural talent & has been painting, drawing & creating since she was a toddler! Anyways, I just ♥️LOVE♥️this card! The colors are phenomenal & so cheery & bright! Have u ever used Spectrum pens? How expensive are the pens that u are using here? Thanks😘
Hi Erica! You can expand the description beneath the video to see links to the products I used. The link for the inexpensive Stabilo Pens will take you to Amazon where you can see the current price. As for the Spectrum Noir markers: I used their alcohol markers before I got into Copics. Back then they didn't have a soft brush tip but just a narrow pen tip and I personally didn't like it as much, which is why I switched. Also, back then you could only buy the Spectrums in packs, whereas Copics were always open stock.
Hi, I've been trying this technique with the same pens and it's not working for me? I don't get the same gradient as you do, the color transition isn't smooth. What am I doing wrong? If I use a lot of water it smooths a bit more but it starts ruining the paper. If I use less water, it doesn't blend at all. Any tips?
My mom recently bought a pack of Stabilo 88 pens (the ultra fine tip ones). Do you know if these would work the same as the 68 point pens as far as blending and everything? And p.s. - I'm a pretty new subscriber. Your cards are so incredible looking!
I have started buying DaVinci brushes recently because the hold the water better, but really, any watercolor brush will do. Depending on the image you color you might want to buy a small one and a larger one. I also like the ones with "round" tips - that means when they are wet, all he bristles come together in front for one sharp point. It's just personal preference. My first brushes, which I still use, were from a supermarket and cost about $1 per brush. Just get some cheap ones to figure out which size and form you like, then invest into better ones of you find that you like water coloring :)
Deine Karten sind sehr schon. Ich habe Dich durch Jennifer McGuire gefunden. Ich finde es ganz toll wie Du wasserfarbe behandelts. Viele liebe Grusse aus Texas. :)
Thank you for the answer! Yes I meant the stamped images. I have some waterproof fineliner! I will try. If you have an instagram account, I will tag you if I should have success. Sorry for bad English.

Do you use these without water as well?
Wow. You are amazing
Great video! Ty!
Great video thanks! Do you use oil based stamp pad?
I don't know what an oil based stamp pad is. You can always find a list of products under each video or in the blog post linked from each video.
nice tutorial

Wonderful O.O
Could be used Stabilo pen 88 too? And what about Staedtler triplus color?
+Elisa Lombardo it's more work with the 88 because of the fine tip. Don't know about Staedler, never used them.
Julia Altermann Thank you for the answer, you are really nice :)
Can u tell me what markers or pens would be good for coloring....I have some markers but they bleed to the back side of the other picture
Can these be used with adult coloring books
+Andrew Arsenault yes. Of course blending quality depends on the paper in each book, but I've used them in 2 and it worked quite well.
Julia....I have the Stabilo 88's.....are can i use water with those as well???
+Michele Johnson-Utter Sure thing!
how pretty
My mom recently bought a pack of Stabilo 88 pens (the ultra fine tip ones). Do you know if these would work the same as the 68 point pens as far as blending and everything? And p.s. - I'm a pretty new subscriber. Your cards are so incredible looking!
They'll work exactly the same, you'll just have to scribble more because of the fine tip :)

Looooove it
Julia, I know!! Stabilo should send you something for reals, lol The price for this goes up each time I check after I watch your videos😢😂
Sind Sie Deutsch?
I've been checking these markers out every time you use it and it started from $60 and now it's like $80, lol
Haha, if Stabilo gets increased sales, maybe they should wire some of the profits to me 😂
