Montana is nice 5 months a year. This winter 2024 has been sooooo great. I love this winter. We are leaving in August. I don’t like Butte. There are too many mean people. They come in all ages, and sizes. Just waving back to you when you are walking seems to anger most of the people here. The town of Butte is falling apart. Bricks are falling out of the old condemned buildings downtown and in other smaller towns too. Drugs pouring in. It’s too much. We are going back to the southern states, maybe Texas. At least there the people are more fun. The weather isn’t horrible. Good luck. If we were going to do this again, we would have probably tried the Hamilton Area. That is south of Missoula. Glendive is prairie. Good choice. It too late for average people to move to Bozeman, or Missoula to be honest. Butte has cheaper housing but is all beat up, trashed out, the neighborhoods are full of miserable people. It really is in bad shape.
Apparently, a lot of people can. Several have benefited from equity they are rolling over from a previous home and being a dual income household. If you are looking to buy your first home, it is extra challenging.
Born and raised in Western Montana and wish I had a nickel for every rancher who said they'd never sell out to big developers. Eventually that land became the goldmine that most Montanans need to stay afloat.

Montana culture is definitely OUTDOOR. Hunting, fishing, 4x4s and dirt bikes, motorcycles, horseback riding, biking, hiking etc. are what people do in their spare time… plus drinking of course!
Fewer and fewer hunt anymore. Forget fishing due to heat stress on rivers and over fishing. No one rides horses either anymore. Very very few riders. Montana today is more indoor than out.
@@czarwill I've been riding dirt bikes here for 3 days, on some of the most popular trails in the area, and have not run into a single other dirt bike rider. I do think the thing that has me worried the most is back in 2019/2020 when it first came up, if i remember correctly the housing market was very different in MT than what it looks like now. So the timing of when and where to buy is really intimidating.

Montana is not about moving to a fancy bourgeoisie city. If you're not looking to move to somewhere very rural away from others then I really don't know why you're choosing Montana in the first place. Maybe some people just want to be baristas for the rich.

true. one of the best descriptions that I've heard of Montana is that it's a small town with really long streets. almost anywhere you go in the state, you'll meet people who you have friends in common with. the hate that some residents throw on anyone who moved here from somewhere else. is shameful.
Sorry to say that since the Vid was produced MT is now full. So if you are from the West Coast don't bother coming here. I hear CO could be more to your liking.
Generally east coast people will never like west coast or even the midwest I think. If you are used to that busy life style with the corner shop and tight housing and the streets buzzing with kids and activities like the old NYC shown in the 50s-60s TV, you will hate the west coast. West coast is huge and spread out. It is not concentrated like the east coast. Even in LA, there are only about 30 high rise buildings, nothing like NYC. If you leave downtown LA, the rest of Los Angeles is just sub urbs and it is vast and empty. You will never get that tight knit neighborhood like the east coast. Life is slow here and the pace is slow.
I’m from Colorado. I went to Philadelphia and I thought it was interesting. Nice place to visit wouldn’t want to stay. It’s just a different lifestyle. I don’t think the two mix very well. I know somebody from New York City that moved to Colorado and she hated it. She couldn’t stand the open space, she couldn’t stand the wide open sky, she even hated the mountains. I thought she had lost her mind. But yet I don’t like skyscrapers, crowds, traffic noise, etc. so you just have to find what works for you.
A big part of the culture here is be kind to those you meet, especially your neighbors, new or old. Another big part is respect the culture and don't try to change it (culture including hunting, guns, a fair amount of Libertarianism (ie, leave me alone), and a relatively traditional view on most things). A lot of people have started jackin' with the second part of that, so the first part has kinda gone out the window for a lot of people. If you move here and respect the culture and don't try to change it, you'll generally be accepted. Although rural towns are especially prickly to move to if you're not native to that area. I've heard a lot of people complain about people here being rude, and my first questions are always: "Where'd you move and did you f with the culture or not agree with the culture?" Not saying that's right or wrong, but that is how it is out here.

Im a trucker and I miss going through Montana. The truck stops are fantastic and you get great abundance of peace and quiet. I must have been lucky but I never got beaten down by the weather there.
Look it up. Nicer winters than Butte too. It’s called the Bitteroot Valley Area. Take care.
@@dalepxp8963 I love living near Butte. Ideal in every way for exactly the negative reasons you gave. But, Butte is growing again. Time to look at eastern Montana options like Wolf Point.
Moved to Great Falls back in September, to help a friend with his business. I'm already planning on heading back to North Carolina, this state is not for me at all.
Why do they call it Great Falls when there are no falls?
And Big Timber, MT doesn’t have any trees.
It’s so misleading
Great Falls gets its name from a stretch on the Missouri River where it drops over 500 feet in a series of rapids and five waterfalls.
Big Timber gets its name from Big Timber Creek, which was named by Lewis & Clark because of the large cottonwood trees.

Moved down to Montana from Alaska. No regrets. We love that it does not get dark until after 5pm in December and the winters are much shorter than Alaska. A nice long upland bird/waterfowl hunting season from 1-Sept to mid January. Great gardening in the summer.

Glendive is prairie. Good choice. It too late for average people to move to Bozeman, or Missoula to be honest. Butte has cheaper housing but is all beat up, trashed out, the neighborhoods are full of miserable people. It really is in bad shape.

I am originally from Texas, married a guy from Colorado. He works in construction and his job is moving him long term to work in Big Sky. They are putting us up in housing in Bozeman the first few years and his pay increase is significant. When we got to visit, just about everyone seemed super friendly which was nice in comparison to what you read on some of the comments on YT and reddit threads, this isn't anything new though you have people here in Colorado and back in Texas that are very vocal about not wanting anymore out of staters moving in.

The people buying are buying their second home, airbnb that for 6,000 a month in the summer for 4 months to cover their mortgage to other rich outta staters and staying in it for the ski season. Hence, no where for regular people to stay.
You will hate Montana. It's so damn cold. You have to be rich to live in Montana. No jobs. Rent is too high. Not enough rentals.
My friend candidly told me that he moved to Kalispel a few years ago and is having trouble adjusting to the abject coldl
@@curtgomes I’m from Kalispell had to move because of the out of staters. It WAS a Great place to grow up and live. It’s a lot warmer in the winter there than where I moved. They have ruined western Montana. It’s a big sh*t hole with a view. Transients everywhere causing major problems. They urinate wherever. Read in the newspaper, a teenage girl saw one masturbating by a bicycle rack. You know the story, skidrow California. It’s just on a smaller scale. (So far)
I moved before all this happened. We just couldn’t go anywhere anymore. All the campsites by all the lakes were overcrowded. And the people coming in are just rude and/or liberal. They say stupid things like “it’s better here than where we came from” and then they turn it into where they came from.
And since people are definitely sheep and believe everything they hear, they’ve been listening to the stories that were told how great Montana is. It was great when these rumors started. You could buy an acre of land for $1000. It was affordable if you didn’t know somebody you knew somebody that knew that person. you could hire somebody to do a job and they would do it correctly with a fair price. Now it seems everybody’s incompetent and greedy. Makes you wonder what half ass company you want to call & be overcharged.
One thing the people who move to Montana that never going to regret is, meeting great, nice, and honest people like you.
Thank you
Awww. Thank you
true. one of the best descriptions that I've heard of Montana is that it's a small town with really long streets. almost anywhere you go in the state, you'll meet people who you have friends in common with. the hate that some residents throw on anyone who moved here from somewhere else. is shameful.
Sorry to say that since the Vid was produced MT is now full. So if you are from the West Coast don't bother coming here. I hear CO could be more to your liking.
Where did you move to Montana from?
That’s good advice, don’t come here!
Montana has been full for 40 years.
I want to Denver that didn't work either. We went back to Philadelphia and it's no problem.

It depends on where you are looking in Montana. Some places land is very expensive, some places it is very cheap. Its all about location
I want to move somewhere gonna be a forest stranger
Went. I live in Louisiana. I'm a retired veteran. I love to rent. I do not want to own. Does Montana have places to rent? I never see anything in any videos about apartments
There are places to rent but they are very expensive and most places do not take pets. A house will be 3500 and up. A room can be as much as 1500 and you can get less than 1000 sq ft for about 2200. You better come with money because you won’t earn it in this state.
Just don’t move here. All these out of staters are jacking up everything especially housing.
Riding dirtbikes, I love, I want, I will! MONTANAAAA!!
Braap braap!
higher cost of living with lower wages
Born and raised in Montana. I’ve witnessed this state turn into one giant subdivision. It has been ruined with all the out-of-staters moving here and destroying the land. And that stupid Yellowstone show has made it a whole lot worse.
These videos tend to understate the weather here, winter starts anywhere from sept to oct & can last into Apr, with day highs averages low 30s & sub zero at night, with dys & weeks of -10 to -60. there's really no spring, we go from 30's during the day to 70 degrees or higher the next day. Fall isn't much different going from 70s-80s day & 50s night one day to 30s to low 40s days & single digits or sub zero nights.
These videos also tend to downplay the hunting & gun culture here in MT. Hunting, if it's off season for big game, birds or furbears, then predator hunting is going on. From coyotes & raccoons to rabbits, hunting is yr round here in MT.
Gun culture, things have changed since passing permitless carry 3 yrs ago, use to be you saw open carry everywhere, not so much since the passing of the permitless carry. But understand here in MT, even if you don't see the firearm assume everyone is carrying, so don't be surprised going into a WAL-Mart & seeing someone carrying a firearm.
MT is a complicated state, from politics to social issues & everything in between. MT is setup for you to succeed, but also setup for you to fail.
It’s called a rouge state and we don’t like liberals!
I'm sorry to hear you're being inundated with people who don' know what they're doing or want to transform it into CA.
I think home affordability is a problem all over the country these days.
It has tripled here in ten years. Most places have not experienced that.
What is better montana or west virginia,?
Depends on how you define better, I suppose
NW Montana if you can afford it.
Houses in Montana are 5x the price...there is a reason for that. Actually, many reasons.
Housing prices in Cheyenne? Maybe cheaper than the high end millions?
Thinking of selling our cattle ranch in Central Oregon to go to Eastern Montana.
The wages here are MUCH better than they are in the south. I went from $7 and hour to $20. My husbands pay increased by about 40,000 a year so I guess that depends on where you’re moving from.
True. Also we have seen a lot of movement in wages recently.
Sorry Montana is full
All the rich ppl moving here changing our way of life and out pricing real generational Montanans is getting really old!
