Amazing new momma - doin your thing in the kitchen with your baby bundle of Joy all wrapped up and cookin with you! I love it! Congratulations and so glad to see you back on TH-cam after the arrival of your newest family member! Definitely going to try homemade yogurt- looks so much easier than i thought it would be. Blessings on your family
Very nice! We love yogurt in the Instant Pot too. I have to use ultra pasteurized milk that skips the boiling step and I just set it to yogurt. I'd love to try it with some fresh milk someday!
I do the same thing! I use Fairlife milk, and Fage yogurt. Sometimes I add heavy cream. Push yogurt button and leave it overnight. Ready for breakfast!
This is great! Love any ideas to use up the sometimes overwhelming amount of ingredients that come from of a new homestead like milk, eggs, or garden produce. I subscribed for this video hope there is more coming.
Thank you!!!! I highly recommend you watch Dr Berg’s TH-cam video on a microbe that is missing in our diet. The video is “fix your gut with one microbe.” Modern life has depleted L.Rueteri and you can buy it and colonize it yourself in yogurt. The studies show incredible health benefits. I just saw the video. I’ve never made yogurt and I have an instapot, so I found your helpful video! Thank you! Thank you for the Amazon links too! I ordered some items. I’m subscribing to your channel ❤️
@@all_mine1233 I strain my yogurt with a euro strainer, I then save some of the liquid (whey) and use that as the starter. Instead of 2 T. of yogurt per half gallon of milk as starter you use 4 T of whey per half gallon of milk
I love your videos! Totally didn't know about the whey! I have made some yogurt in my bread maker before. I especially like the homemade applesauce version you made for the grab and go cups (since I froze up a lot of applesauce this fall). Thank you Tessa! Congratulations on your bundle of joy!!
Thank you so much!! Oh I've never heard of making it in a bread maker but that makes sense. Yes, the applesauce version is my personal favorite. So yummy! Nothing like homemade applesauce!
Hmm... I've never been a fan of yogurt. I like the idea of making it like a parfait, though, with layers of yogurt alternated with fruit. ❤ I do like ice cream, though, and I discovered that you don't need a traditional ice cream maker to make it. I found a couple of plastic balls (about the size of soccer balls) that were ice cream makers. Once you have the ingredients in place, you roll and shake the balls to make the treat. I bought them to teach the 3rd grade at my school how heat moves around. The best part for my students was eating the ice cream after they made it in my lab. 🙂🍦 I've heard that there's a way to make ice cream by using a couple of plastic trash bags, but I never tried it.
@@HomesteadWithTessa I've never tried frozen yogurt. I used to eat regular yogurt about once a year. (shrug) It was just okay. I've tried Greek yogurt, and I didn't like it. I've tried plain yogurt, and I didn't like that either. I recently re-tried kefir, which is basically a somewhat liquid form of yogurt, and I didn't like it. I liked kefir when I was in my 20s, but I guess my tastes have changed. Just like I used to like eggplant, but don't like it anymore. I used to hate onions and mushrooms, but now I love them. (shrug again) People like what they like, and they don't like what they don't. My comment wasn't a criticism on you or your video. I enjoyed the video. So I hope you didn't take offense at what I said.
You know I'm not really sure on that. It would depend on what 'fillings' you added. The blackberries are just blackberries, no added sugar, as is the applesauce. When I make my applesauce I don't add any sugar. The jam does have quite a bit of sugar in it though.
How long can you keep the yogurt starter in the fridge? Im the only one in my house that eats it and would love to make my own but I dont eat it every day so I wouldnt want the starter to spoil before I got to use it.
It will usually stay good in the fridge for 1-2 weeks BUT you can also freeze some yogurt to use later as your starter. The freezing process doesn't hurt the starter cultures one bit.
Usually about a week, so if you're eating yogurt every morning for breakfast you should be able to get through it! We also use plain Greek yogurt in place of any sour cream. It's great on tacos, potatoes, in beef stroganoff, anywhere you'd use sour cream.
Yes, you could definitely add some cream for a richer yogurt. And yes, you can freeze it! You'll want to freeze it in an ice cream maker if you want it scoopable.
Not a silly question at all! No, it went for 18 hours. When you set the instant pot it counts up from zero, not down from the 24 hours I set it for. Great question, thanks for asking

That's a smart time saving solution!

Me too. Cold start method.

What a great way to make up snack cups to go ! Love that strainer too ! ❤
Thanks!!

Thanks for responding to my question on FB Homesteaders on TH-cam group. Much appreciated. I subscribed.
Thank you! I subscribed back 😀 No problem at all
@@HomesteadWithTessa thank you. 🙏🏻
Thank you Tessa!
Thank you for watching!
You can also use the whey as your starter for the next batch
I never thought of that! That makes perfect sense. Thank you so much for sharing that.
Hi @TheAtraun So if I get heavy whipping cream and shake it to make butter can I use the way to start my yogurt in the instant pot? 👍🏻
But how would you do that?

I wonder if Mr. Gilbert would like frozen yogurt? Especially if it's home made!

I love making homemade yogurt.
It's so much better than storebought!
Awesome! Thank you!

We had so much whey in our area farmers had it spread it on the fields
This looks great. What is the sugar content ? Is it high in sugar?

How long does this last in the fridge?? I'm solo, and don't eat bunches of anything it seems so food tends to go bad on me.

Could I add some heavy cream to my whole milk to add richness? Can homemade yogurt be frozen? 👍🏻👍🏻
Yes, you could definitely add some cream for a richer yogurt. And yes, you can freeze it! You'll want to freeze it in an ice cream maker if you want it scoopable.
When you say 18 are you saying you left it for 6 hours? Sorry silly question
