I’ve become obsessed with chestnut trees and specifically the American verities. They’re just so unique and I have such a passion for these generous trees that feed humans and wildlife every year.
There is a beutiful legend concerning the sweet chestnut tree. When the Spanish Armada suffered big losses due to storms in 1588 on the Irish coast, many drowned Spanish sailors washed ahore. One of them had sweet chestnut in his pockets snd he was buried in a cemetery. One of the chesnuts in hid pocket germinated. The tree was called the Spanish Armada Tree. It died in 2020 almost 500 years old.
I live in Sussex England and came across a sweet chestnut tree while walking my dog. Not knowing what it was took a photo. Thanks for the interesting information 👏
If I was a owner of a big tv studio, I would invest you your own show just to make documentary style videos like these. You are such a wonderful person
I asked Santa ( my daughters and husband all) for your book for Christmas. I do hope Santa heard! I have been a lover of the herbs and the weeds and the trees all my life but you always teach me something I don't know. You and yours Be Blessed ( : Thanks for sharing you.
You guys do such lovely videos, i always feel calm and connected after watching one, and linking back into some of the knowledge of our ancestors, thank you and blessed be
Great video, thank you. I’ve moved to a house with a massive sweet chestnut tree, and would love some recipes for them, so I can eat them for longer in different forms.
We tried foraging sweet chestnuts last Autumn in several areas in North East Ireland but all the chestnuts were tiny or flat like you showed... I read that our climate isn't warm enough, is that the case?? BTW I just received your book today its absolutely fantastic and will be our home Ed Bible 😁😘
Not sure about the climate being the reason. Somtimes you can get an entire tree that's simply not that great 🙂 Glad you like our book! If you could leave us a review on amazon we'd be grateful 😁
There is a chestnut that is poison and doesn't have the point on the bottom of the round nutshell, and has a bumpy and not spiny? hull... I know a chestnut tree with partially a spiny hulls and faint hint of a point on nut bottom. Could it be a hybrid?? I read up on chestnuts before I ate one!
Thank you for telling us the history behind this beautiful tree. Fancy one being thousands of years old!? I'll have to watch again in case I've got that wrong. I've been trying to grow some from Xmas chestnuts bought at local supermarkets - come from Italy I think. Love your videos 🦋🌳
BOSS video again,And you got me identifying different trees instead of just looking in ore of them But I guess it takes a long time But well worth it, If you was on telly I would buy one a happyly pay some kind of payment for your enthusiasm and passion of all that has already Always been there for us Keep them coming and GODBLESS 🍀
Hi Dane. Being in Central Ohio USA I have a smattering of Horse Chestnut (Buckeye) trees around me, but so far haven't found any Sweet Chestnuts nearby. I keep looking.
Thank you for your wonderful videos! I am blessed; I have a pair of huge sweet chestnut trees growing at the back of my property in Western Washington state, USA. As far as I know, they were planted here in the 1960s. Each spring, my trees literally hum from all the bees that come to pollinate the flowers. In fall, people and racoons come to get chestnuts every year. The pokey outer seed coverings are a pain (literally), but the chestnuts are worth it. Until today, I didn't know the trees also have medicinal value. Thank you and Blessed Be! *NOTE to Home Is Where Our Heart Is:* Please don't use an apostrophe to make a word plural; the apostrophe is properly used to show possession (ownership) or a contraction (where you leave off a letter) as in *Pam's* cat or *don't* do that.
I'm so delighted to find out there's a group in my hometown involved in this restoration. I googled my state and county! Try it. I live 30 mnts away but it can start here too.
Hi. Do chestnut tree need another chestnut tree of different variety to pollinate and produce fruit/nuts? Or 1 tree is enought as they are self pollinating?
Hello , love your videos , and love chestnuts , I get them from the shop and I love them raw , this year we got our own in the woods , my question is do they need to be cooked before I eat them as it says they have acid in ?

Great trees to have !
Where did I use the apostrophe ? 🙂
The video's title 😁
Great, thanks for the info 😉
😁
Wonderful video! Thank you 🙏 How can the leaves be used to benefit from their medicinal qualities?
I have the same question...
Me too!
Me too. Read elsewhere that the leaves are good for respiratory and 100 day cough or whooping cough that's going around. Bought BACH brand tincture.
I'm so delighted to find out there's a group in my hometown involved in this restoration. I googled my state and county! Try it. I live 30 mnts away but it can start here too.
😁
Would you be so kind as write about the companion plants to this tree? Thanks.
Very nice music
How do you extract the medicinal properties of the leaves?
What do you do with them? How to process them?
Have bag full that are small.
Is there a way to use the leaves medicinally? I know you said there's a lot of benefits in the leaves but how would one use them?
Came here to ask about the leaves for respiratory issues and goe to make a tincture using these.
Gosh can totally see you hosting a childrens TV or podcast show 😁. Not that we want to loose you to that
Thought about doing a podcast on the future 😁
