Getting the Pyrite Light for 25 bucks or whatever ridiculously low drop price on Amazon was is still the greatest knife purchase I’ve ever made. So so good
It is a great knife.
Same. I got mine for $25 as well from Amazon and it's freakin amazing for the money.
I have been edcing mine since then too. Not even worried if I damage it or lose it or anything but it's holding up perfectly
Same here I bought 3 of them haha. The Artisan Cutlery Proponent for $40 got me to it's an absolute tank of a knife.
The steel is awful. Idk if it's a burnt edge or bad heat treatment but the edge is unusable after about 10ft of cardboard
Solid list for sure. I wish all budget knives gave an option to pay a few more bucks for titanium pocket clip. Or the seller provides a pocket clip upgrade option to add. The one thing most fall short on is their pocket clips.
Brains, brains for lunch, brains for breakfast brains for brunch
MC I LOVE THESE VIDS THE MOST! I really can’t disagree with any of the knives on this list, especially with the Vosteeds! I need to pick up the exact Raccoon that you put in the number one spot! 👍🏻
Ties with #2 should be the new CJRB Acacia - its like a pyrite light handle treatment with a Drop point thumg hile cutout blade on crossbar lock, for $40 ($30 after 25% off on anazon right now. Same way they oriced Pyrite light when they launched it.)
Great vid!
Sure wish the number 1 spot was ever in stock though… I’ve wanted it for months.
its on amazon :) you're welcome
@@TyGanal O.O
@@tricky48 were you able to find it?
@@TyGanal - YES! Got one for myself and one for my friend that I had been comparing models for weeks trying to find a good "first" real pocket knife. I got the Green Micarta with Copper-ish blade coating for myself. Thank you for the head's up! His was actually the only top liner lock knife on Black Friday sale, so it kept it within the 50$ budget I had for him! Knife Bros being bros...
🤜🤛
@@tricky48 im glad :) enjoy
I appreciate theses best of budget knives you do. I've been long past what is good in the budget category and use your videos to suggest and buy good knives for people that want a good knife. On other videos every budget knife is the next best one, so a top best list is helpful.
I'm really glad to hear you liked the top liner lock Raccoon as much as you did. One of the reasons I've hesitated to buy a crossbar lock Raccoon is that I'm not much of a modder and I wouldn't even be comfortable replacing an omega spring. Does a top liner lock knife have any kind of spring that might have to be replaced?
The top liner raccoon doesn’t have omega or any type of springs so they are very easy to do maintenance on. 👍🏼
the only spring in a top liner lock is the liner itself, which isn’t a spring in the way you’re thinking of but it is technically a spring.
@@acid6urns essentially a tension bar
@@SimpLSkyyit’s like a liner lock
@georgelin8498 I'm aware, I have several Spyderco's with compression locks. As well as having many other knives with liner locks, frame locks etc.. essentially the same "spring" or "tension bar" locking action, different execution.
The liner lock moyarl has a reversible clip but the crossbar lock version is right hand tip down only. Why?
Never really been a "knife guy" but I'm in the market for a regular carrier knife and I'm getting the impression that for a regular person like myself that Any of these would be pretty great. Your number 2 at that price seems like a really good fit for a not "knife person" but wants something good. Thanks
I think the Vosteed Marten might make an appearance on the next list.
Is the next one the under $100 one?
@@Oneoneone111Oneyup some are on the website now
You are probably right about Raccoon, but I’ve been trying to get one since they came out. Doesn’t matter if it’s best knife ever if you can’t get it. Thank god the Marten came out and i was able to jump on it before THEY were gone😅
Hello, just curious, what would your top 5 or so of the year be if you're budget was $150? Really trying to decide on my first edc but there are just so many to look through. Thanks and keep up the amazing vids!
Great picks. Best budget knives I've handled have come off Aliexpress.
What ones would you recommend?
aliexpress sells too many fake ass knockoffs of american brands for me to buy from there
I got the san mai incindie because of your video. Absolutely love that knife, especially for the value. It feels like it should be a little more than it is. Button stick was brutal at first but as expected, it breaks in pretty well.
Check out the civivi Yonder. Designed by Zac Whitmore. They go for under $60. Great budget knife.
I think the yonder could (should) overtake the elementum in the civivi lineup. It’s a really great and simple knife especially for newbies
I have it. It's good. It could be interchangeable with any of the first 6
@ don’t have it yet. Had to choose between the lander 3 and the yonder. The lander won. I ordered both from BladeHQ I knew I could only keep one
Militaw is #1 for me
💯 agree on the Raccoon top liner lock… can’t wait for more companies to release blades with this lock system. Please convince Sergio with your next design 😅
Have you seen that s90v and aluminum qsp penguin yet its a good looking knife in aluminum great video man 👍
AR-RPM9 has the composition of 9Cr18MoV, which is very similar to the composition of 440B and the same as european 1.4112 (or X90CrMoV18)
The Raccoon is next on my list of knives to get. I was going to get it the other day, but then I found out about the $25 Civivi at Walmart so I had to get that real quick (which that's a fantastic knife for the price). But the raccoon is the next knife I'm going to be getting (probably the crossbar lock version)
Nice list 👍 I have only one from your list, but I’m definitely interested in the Kizer Militaw.
What about doing a Top 10 EDC Fixed Blade list?
One that just released, so technically 2024 that I'm super interested in is the CJRB Acacia. It's their Crossbar iteration on the Pyrite Light and a better answer to the "Wugout". I should have mine here tomorrow. Maybe an addendum on this list will be needed.
When it's on sale the Kizer mini grouper definitely should have made top three
It was a great year for budget knives to eat away at my budget!
Bought $20 knives this year for about $1,500 lol bunch of $40 to $50 a few $100
Raccoon is #1 for me too but vision fg?
The FG has always been 78 but apparently they lowered the price..pretty cool, but it was a 2023 release
I've had one of those Vosteeds on order for literally 3 months at this point. I'm wondering if they're actually shipping _any_ of them, not just that demand is exceeding supply.
they’ve already shipped those knives out months ago…
All great looking knives. I'm just surprised there's not more modified wharncliffe/sheepfoot blade the list.
Thanks. The Incindie is very eye catching.
My favorite is the budget miltaw I have the velona and the Moyarl. I can't wait to order the racoon👌🏻
12:38 thank you!!!! 😂❤
Hey MC, have you handled the newer thinner version of the Kizer drop bear, in nitro-V?
#9 & maybe #2 🤙
Does the vosteed lock up like a compression lock or is it just a true liner lock?
It's legitimately a compression lock
You missed the Civivi Yonder . . . . a great, well thought-out knife that is in my world, is the best bang for the buck.
I didn't miss it. I have it. If someone suggested it be interchanged with something on this list, it'd be fair. It just wasn't quite in the top 10 for me
At that size, it should have a back flipper.
Budget knives are DEFINITELY NOT Poopy Pablo...thanks MC...thanks for letting me use your name ubiquitously in 2024 Poopy Pablo...👊
👊
Great list 👌
Can we get a top 5 or 10 USA manufactured pocket knives under 200$?
Good idea. Might be hard to stay away from it mostly being Kershaw and Hogue but I'll see what I can do
@metal_complex bump it up, 300$ and under. Looking for my forever knife.
@@metal_complexi mean… under $200 you get knives like the buck 110 in s30v, spyderco native 5 LW, spyderco manix 2 g10/s30v, the LW spyderco manix, benchmade griptilian, some versions of the benchmade mini barrage, there’s a lot of usa made knives under $200
Great list MC!
Is the civivi brazen better than the placoid?
Very different. Brazen is smaller, comes in a button lock varient now. Brazen is closer to the Incindie (which is the best Civivi in this list).
@ so is it better? What has a smoother action n stuff
Thanks
9.99 on the card slam
I wanted a compression lock raccoon but they are sold out everywhere. I ended up getting a button lock.
I just got the Incindie. It's a super nice knife but the stop pin placement is stupid, if you sharpen it too many times the edge is going to hit the stop pin in the closed position.
Gonna take you quite a while
The stop pin on my vision fg is just about sitting at the sharpened edge. I used to use the hell out of it but I don’t think their nitro v is done very well. I’ve sharpened it maybe ten times cuz mine is pretty chippy. Took me a while to realize it but honestly I can’t say I didn’t get $80 worth of knife out of it. Just disappointing when they do that. If it wasn’t for that the blade would have a ton of life left.
@@MikeJ602 Yeah my gf has a vision fg with the same issue, fantastic knife except for that 1 problem. Luckily she doesn't use it everyday like I use my knives
I know you always say it about the bugout, but when i picture the "knifiest knife that ever knifed" it is definitely clip point.
The militaw does have some strange colors. That’s why I like the fixed blade version better it’s got much better color options in my opinion😂
Real steel sacra is a great crossbar lock knife
All i want for Christmas is you you you and you, you know what? Just give me the whole damn store
I know what I’m getting everyone for Christmas!
That cjrb prado looks to be a budget benchmade tagged out.
The next knife you design should be a budget knife!
he said eventually they’re gonna release a budget version of his knife with kunwu
I got my Vosteed Racoon top liner lock a few weeks back from Crane's Cutlery. Check them out, may be in stock.
Civivi gives us that nice San Mai and then pairs it with the grandpas jacket beige…why😭
Lol- I call it “ivory” but grandpas jacket sounds way cooler 😂. It pairs well with the vision fg in the same jacket when I carry both!
@ 😂 bet it blends right in
I have the Mini Militaw in Nitro V with the stainless blade and black G10 with wood handle and it’s a super classy looking knife. Honestly the only good color way they released for that knife lol
What no Walmart Ozark Trail orange D2 for $9.97?!
CJRB makes a pyrite-light with s90v for $80.
His cut off for budget knives is $75
@MikeJ602 I know. Just trying to let people know that they do make one.
I actually said this towards the end of the video during the Pyrite Light section
I think with this inflation, $100 is considered budget.
I’ve been think that all year.
Na. Under $75 keeps em special
Definitely starting to feel that way
@@metal_complexgoat response
Currency devaluation is around -25% from 2020 to now. Once Trump is President, the news will report the real numbers. 😅
I picked up a Kizer Assasin for my pops for his 80th birthday. I wanted to get him a nice American made piece but honestly he wouldn't appreciate it and if you know actual Boomers you get it. But I also picked up a crossbar lock Raccoon for myself (since the top liner lock is sold out of course!) and I might actually give him that instead. The Assassin is a flipper button lock and the action on it is kinda weak. I'm gonna ask my sons which one they think he'll like more.
Quiet prerecorded intro ft. Metal Calmplex
2023 list was better
Kizer Mini Grouper > Vosteed Raccoon
NOT A SINGLE ONE of these knives is selled in my contry 😐. Why can't we have good budget stuff in Brazil?😂
Same in turkey
Hey the title of this vid says 2025 lol you lookin into the future?
Thanks! Lol didn't even notice! Edit should update soon
Time keeps on slipping slipping slipping into the fuuuuuu
Militaws are Soo UGLY!!.. And plunge grinds are AWFUL right into the heel... No thanks Kizer
Hey man! Fancy seeing you here.
You're gonna love my upcoming review of the Militaw 😂
Cool. So we know what to get you for your birthday.
Totally agree
The pyrite lite is awful. Mine, with a freshly sharpened blade, after about 10ft of cardboard its already severely dulled. The Ozark trail d2 is probably better than this steel. Compared to the civivi mini praxis, the pyrite lite is awful
Civivi is naming their knives using a cat walking on the keyboard.
Placoid is pronounced plack-oid, it's a type of fish. The scum sucking algae eating type I think 😂
Figures. The ugliest Militaw ever…..MC’s fave.
Get ‘em now before trump tariffs hit.
