@@CarModsGaragehey one more question. I did my timing and my bottom mark is like half a tooth off. And I took of the tensioner stick thing. How can I adjust the bottom crank so the marks and perfect straight? Thanks 😊
@ArtemzBuildz if you have an adjustable cam gear you can use that otherwise I've seen online people putting a screw driver on a gear tooth then rotating the engine manually. It looks like the belt gets a tooth jump. Research that before though otherwise will need to plug the tensioner again and redo it. (Pain to do)
@@CarModsGarage That's a good number to aim for. You should look up "dark dsm" on TH-cam or Instagram. Hes currently rebuilding a turbo 420a. He previously had one that was making around 460ish hp if I'm not mistaken
This may be a long shot in the dark, picked up a 97 rs. Already have the engine pulled, my goal is prep it to handle a turbo at 9 psi. Not rly concerned with hp output. Just something fun to play with. Every cam gear I come across says it's for a turbo only. Not a 420a.. What cam gears would work best for this particular engine and turbo plan?
It's so hard to find anything for the 420a now a days. I guess whatever you can find will be fine. They are not that different as long as you can adjust. I almost used the OEM to be honest
Question , I'm doing ac and power steering deleted, but when I removed those the serpentine belt just have to run alternator and crank ? Can you help with that
I think you gotta pull tention pin before you adjust timing gears. The tention needs to bee atoperating tention to know where everything is going to land.
Yes that would make sense. Although I followed the procedure to only take the pin once you time and spin the engine a couple of times and see if it did not change.
Unfortunately you might need to take the engine mount that's close to the running belt to take the cover off. Basically you want to take the tensioner off to get the timing belt loose and fix the teeth. If it skipped a tooth you might want to replace that tensioner anyways so put a new one and place the cover back in place. Be careful you will need to jack the engine from the bottom and be sure it won't move while you are doing it. Using a cherry picker would be safer. I have a video replacing the timing belt on my 420a. Check out the playlist for it
@@CarModsGarage my engine was lopping real bad, I took the timing cover off and line the crank and the cam . I didn’t buy new belt or tensioner just reused the same ones. Now the engine runs with a slight lope. Should I got a new tensioner and belt?
@@roycepickett1598 well you need to think why it skipped a tooth. I would think that the tensioner might not be pushing well against the belt. I would replace that since it is easy. The belt on the other hand if it is looking good I wouldn't but again if it is out already then why not 🙂

I been trying to find adjustable camshaft timing gears for my 1996 Mitsubishi eclipse 2.0l non turbo 420a engine and been having trouble any help at all what would work would be greatly appreciated if there is any
Once the timing is aligned and the tensioner has the pin pulled does moving the bolt that’s used to adjust the crank to TDS mess with timing? Just making sure so I can fix my car today lol also I subbed your video helped me out a lot
the bolt from the crank can be removed since that is a dowel pin to keep it without turning. If you take any gear from the camshaft or crank out it will be hard to put back in there because of the tensioner but only the crank bolt should be fine. Why do you want to take the bolt from the crank?
@@CarModsGarage it’s what I’m using to rotate the crank but I still have to use the bolt to put the crankshaft pulley back on and secure it. I just want to make sure that when the timing is set and the belt is tight that when I loosen this bolt it doesn’t mess up timing again
@@7ravon555 oh I see so you have the small sprocket that holds the belt. Now you need to take the bold out to put the dampener back. It should be fine.
i just bought a 99 eclipes g2 420a on 10lbs boost it has alot of oil blowback when i hit 6lbs of boost then it starts breaking up im running stock injectors so im sure that is that issue . but blowback i was told by a few people that i have to redo my rings. but also was told that i should check oil line to my turbo.so my question is what would cause a major oil blowback?
I am not an expert or even a mechanic but building this engine I would say that excessive space on the rings will cause blowby. I believe you say blow back meaning smoke from the pipe. It could be the rings are going bad or it could be the turbo leaking oil a bit and burning through the exhaust. I am not sure about the oil line. Not sure how the line would cause smoke anywhere. Check the oil pressure #1 and check to see if the oil level is dropping #2. After that I would maybe inspect the turbo for leaks and see if there is any play and lastly open the engine and replace the rings.
@@CarModsGarage ok man thank you. also had someone say that having a bad turbo would build pressure and blow the dipstick out which in the return spit oil everywhere and it would seem like a bad head gasket.
Hey, I got those with the engine parts I got. They are aftermarket and the are Crane Cams. I'm not sure if it is stage 1 it 2 though. I'm at the hospital having a baby so I don't have access to the picture with the specs.
definitely yes. I''ve never done but of course everything would be way tighter so the sockets would need to be shorter. If you never done that like me it's good to see out of the car like this so you see the parts and how they attach together.
@@CarModsGarage I saw the OBX cam gears for my Saturn Sl2 1.9L but I emailed them and they never answered back. Did they reduce some co-efficent drag from the engine? @@junechris the crank pulley is the harmonic balancer. It absorbs vibration from the crankshaft rotating. I would not replace this one by a lighter one.
