Saw this during my recent trip to new York. Front row seats! Was AMAZING! Worth every penny. They were both phenomenal and the set design was bloody brilliant! !
Looks like Laurie was giving Kathy Bates a run for her money here. I can think of no other actors who could play the part of Annie Wilkes any better than Kathy Bates and Laurie Metcalfe.
I saw them and i thought that she was absolutely brilliant and he wasnt much of a theatre stage actor. He wasnt very expressive and he sometimes stumbled with the words. Now i wonder if these were early signs of his illness. 😢
Just watched Laurie in Horace and Pete. Astonishing performance. World class. I hope this stage performance is recorded so we flyover plebs can see it.
God I wish they had filmed this for release. Most people will never ever get to see a Broadway play in their entire lifetimes. You would think Broadway would get a little smarter in this day and age and start filming some of their shows so they can be sold and profited off of in perpetuity for their cast and crew. Yes, I’m sure there is something intangible in seeing live theater, but letting more people see live productions probably wouldn’t take that much away from the theaters themselves, in fact ot would probably bring more people to live theaters.
Broadway unfortunately paints the picture of spring the little guy meanwhile sucking the finger to those who can rawlings of ever afford to travel and stay in the expensive city that is NYC 😅
I haven't seen this, but I think Laurie Metcalf is a good choice to play Annie in this Broadway version. Even the movie was out she could've play that role. She can play crazy person that can be really outstanding.
I agree with you! I love Laurie Metcalf and all the “crazy” that she brings to characters, like Jackie Harris. She (Jackie) is never the scary kind of crazy, she’s the kind of crazy you love. That is the talent that Laurie brought to that role.
I heard the biggest flaw with Bruce is that he's fairly monotone and is pretty stone faced throughout the whole thing. Of course I can't judge because I've not seen the play but what made Jimmy Caan's performance work so well in the movie was that while he gave a pretty understated performance (that perfectly counterbalanced Bates' psychotic portrayal of Annie) his performance was pretty much based in reactions. You could tell how he was feeling and what he was thinking just by the look on his face.
I love Bruce Willis, but there is no chance this remake is better than original movie. I don't know, what the f... is all those remakes for... 1990 Rob Reiner's "Misery" with Caan and Bates is a MASTERPIECE of thriller, and there is no point to remake something which is simply perfect.
They obviously filmed a performance of this. RELEASE IT. We'd all love to watch it.

I read that Willis was being fed his lines through an earpiece, idk how true that is.
And to put someone up against the great Laurie Metcalf, they gotta be good. Bruce Willis is not who I think of when being paired with her.
