+Asher Edmondson 2 Years ago i said the same thing, now i'm pretty amateur at the concept of combos in DMC4, and actually managed to pull off a few. Took me about 2 months of dedicated practice. Though I'm still years behind what Donguri can do.

I knew it! Unorthodox grip is king of gaming. I've been saying for years, modern controller design is garbage, We have more fingers on the opposite side of your hand, why not put more buttons on the back of the controller? Why is this unutilized???
This crap controller design is due to evolution from original gamepads like NES, (even the SNES has shoulder buttons) but as controllers got more buttons, their layout and button placement stayed the same. Really unintelligent and lazy design if you ask me.
You definitely have a point there, but don't forget that most people don't play games at a hardcore level like this, which is the only case that this unorthodox grip would be worth mastering.
Yep you guys are right, wasting a lot of money for just getting a moded controller instead of each console having their own moded controller, thats why im trying to learn Claw grip its worth it tbh but many people say it hurts a bit
Ahh the claw grip, I became familiar with that when I first played the Monster Hunter games on 3DS and PSP.

Finaly! i hope u make more vids about how regular players may develop skill like urs. Maybe just show us few easy combos in one video, then intermidiate in other. Because when i start to play with dante - there are so many things he can do, i just cant apply that effectivly. Thx for ur tutorial i'll try that fingerbreaker grip
I'm using Xbox controller and it's harder to switch styles cuz controlling L-stick with index finger is almost impossible.

Yeeeeah, definitely not something a beginner can do, let alone even someone who's played casually. This is for the people who dedicate their time to being good at playing a damn good game. Not knockin' ya, don't get me wrong. I'm actually very impressed, and hopefully I'll be able to perform these kinds of combos myself one day.

勉強になりました。凄まじい動きには凄まじい努力と根性操作があったんですね…適正コンフィグさえあればと思ってましたが甘くなかった。ＤＭＣ5ダンテがｍ式じゃなく、４式だから練習します。
The fact that this isn't magic or hacking and is pure, unadulterated skill makes it even more unbelievable.
It is inputting D-pad with left index finger while tilting left stick with left thumb (if you use Xbox controller, the way is the reverse)
dmc the only game forcing me to use claw with my left hand never thought id see the day

Donguris what boss would you recommend for me to practice guard flying I can never get normal enemies higher in the air.
Can I do this while having my sword set to B/Circle, and styles set to X/Square?
If not, I'll change my controller method, but I really hope I don't have to, as I've been using this control method since DMC3.

If you are a person who don't have to slide your right thumb when doing a combo, I think there is no problem :).
At the end of the day practice is what makes perfect. However more than that, patience makes masters. Anybody who wants instant success, you certainly wont find it here.
Indeed. This vid came out 5 years ago and I watched it right after it was uploaded. After all these years of practice I can now finally pull off star raves and guard flying. I played DMC4 like trash back then and, like all the impatient ones, gave up on getting better sooner than I should. When DMC5 came out I switched over to 5. Because the mechanic in 5 is better polished than before it made me feel like learning about the game again. I started practicing and after I gained a fair amount of experience I implemented some mods like the SSSiyan to make 5 feel more like 4. Recently I went back to 4se and surprisingly noticed my improvement. Those "trick-sword-trick-sword" which I could only witness in a donguri video eventually become able to be done by myself. The patience, man, it's everything

@@stormcutter59 Good luck becoming better at the game bro. There's a friend of mine got interested in the franchise recently and I'm doing my best to help him improve. He was a Nero main but switched to Vergil and made a great progress already. Hope you'll improve as well

I got used to the index thumb grip because of kh2 lv1 runs so I think I'm fine on that, but damn mastering dante alone is a long way.

well looks impossible with a x-box controller... who in the world can play with his index on the left stick?
That's why dualshock is the superior controller design, claw grip for both d-pad and buttons.
in this particular scenario, most of the time button is rarely if ever used in other games ;/ but welp
You dont really need anything other than UP and DOWN on the L-stick in DMC tbh. Unless you're moving on the ground then too it's not that hard.
yea as an Xbox player I will admit ps4 controllers feel better for fighting games and games like dmc but everything else I still prefer Xbox
I love the 360 controller, which I use for PC, but the d-pad is so "wobbly" that it usually inputs the wrong style I selected. I really want to practice the way of the Dante D:

I tried x-box360 controller before, and soon gave up because of the reason you mention lol. But I know some great DMC4 players who have mastered with the controller. Good Luck ^-^

ガドフラが発動したらいったん指を離しますね。ガドフラ中にエアハイクのジャンプボタンを入力し、その後素早くスタイルアクションのガードを押してみてください。左スティックで行きたい方向に飛び回れますよ。
Keyboard is worst because you cant make many combos. While playing Vergil you cant use summoned swords and air tricks at the same time. Try on keyboard charge shot and round trip at same time, impossible.
And thus, Donguri continues to flex on me and every other DMC player ever without even trying. Infact he is trying to help us get good and still flexing on us.
im a keyboard player kinda tough to say but i understand the configurations in PS4 / Xbox controllers cuz of gettin used to it xD
i have to practice more in dante combo LOL thru keyboard config then PS4 to master it xD

I don't know, I struggle to keep my combo on enemy in mid air is difficult. Donguri is my reason to play DMC4 and I want to master it

Good news: I can jump cancel enemies pretty okay for a novice at it, can keep them in the air for a good bit.
Bad news: I will never be on Donguri level. My fingers simply can't keep up with my brain to style switch to what I want whenever I want lol

Complicated but he is what a devil hunter means, SMOKING SEXY STYLE
One thing to remember if you're using PC keyboard, you MUST use a Legit Gaming Keyboard with Mechanical Keyboard switches.
The reason? To prevent Ghosting inputs when compared to regular Membrane Keyboard.

Please tell me you will make more of these short tutorials. I've been watching all of your vids and trying to make my Dante better. I've been at it for a good 4 to 5 months the only thing I can really do is guard flying and jump canceling. I also copied your button layout it helps. But man is Dante difficult :/

he's absolutely right,I find myself having to grip the controller a certain way if I want to input certain moves into a combo.it causes some hinderance,but hey I guess you just have to find your way,and PRACTICE stuff.

man, have you try to be a game tester for DMC5? that would be a jaw dropping for the game developer to see their game is easly beaten by you.
You mean beaten by the Cheat Engine he uses to spam scripted moves and exploit animation cancels. He is not the only one who uses this stuff.
Others are much less cautious to the point of using cheats to bypass attack animations that cannot be canceled otherwise. Just a bunch of noobs hacking codes in the game.

Hello, I am from Latin American countries, and I really like your videos and I wanted to learn how to make combos. Thank you very much for the advice.
Hold on a moment... I have an idea. Anyone else ever see those miniature keyboards that Logitech makes for MMOs, the ones that have about 20 keys and an analog stick for the thumb? That seems perfect for this, since it makes style switching with the fingers even easier and it still allows analog movement with the thumb. Only thing I have left to figure out is how to use my other hand with that, I need to come up with a way to keep stuff like lock on and attacks mapped to my right hand, just so my left doesn't have to do everything. If anyone thinks up a way, please say so.
I have been playng for 5 years or more and I can't do a little bit of what you do but if you show how you really grip the controller and your finger movments it will really help anyways great video it helped alot ^_^
From what I'm getting u hold your controller almost like bear glove. Witch is what i do, and I am blown away from how godly u are at dmc. Plus i love how u show the controller and the imputs. Very helpful to understand but the imputs are confusing in fast-past motion.

Guys, I'm almost getting master the flying guard with skystar and noticed some important details when you run it . When you run the flying guard with Rebellion ( Sword Master) the Skystar will be made shortly after the attack , however, with darkslayer / yamato you should wait a while before running skystar or use the Jump Cancelling after using the Yamato and quickly skystar use to be able to do the flying guard . With Lucifer is like , but you are going to get to the flying guard with the jump canceling + skystar then .

Ya know... the main reason i dont get good at dmc is that there isnt a good place to train within the game (on console, so no trainers) so im incredibly hyped for the training mode in DMC5
