  • Hello everyone, in this video I want to talk to you about something that may seem very basic and that we all know it, but apparently there are many people who are not careful when changing their strings and that will cause issues in the long term to the bridge and the instrument in general. With these 5 tips I tell you how to change your strings the right way, our goal here is to keep the bridge as straight as possible, and the strings vibrating freely. I hope this video helps you keep your instrument healthier!
    My strings are Larsen Magnacore forte.

    Hi Pablo - it is also VERY important that none of the strings come into contact with the side of the peg box - I LOVE all your videos - you are such a WORLD class musician and person in every sense of the word : )

      Is it important? (I'm not challenging you, just wondering why.) I always made sure to avoid contact with the side of the peg box (like you say), but was recently told by a luthier that he intentionally strings to the edge, as it pulls the peg inwards when tightened, thus preventing peg slippage. Is it a bigger deal with synthetic or gut strings that wear down more easily?

    My Cello is a 5 String Cello so I use Daddario Helicore Strings (4/4 Scale Medium Tension Set plus a Matching High E String) which are a Bit Thinner to make Bowing on the Cello easier.

    Hey Pablo , i am following you form some time,also have been to your concert,wanted to ask you why do you prefer the hard magnacore instead of medium ? i noticed that you are using them for a long time now ,i also tried them and did like it,but i am on medium now.

      Hi! The strong just feel better for me, I like that extra tension in the strings, and they last longer. I feel I can use it for a longer time without feeling like an old string. On the down side, is that they take a few days more to get loose... it is a matter of taste!

    Something else that people don't always realise is not to take all of the strings off at once. Change one string at a time. And a bit of graphite where the string goes on the nut can also help it glide better and not unravel.

    Does Larsen recycle old strings?? What do you do with Old Strings?🤔

    • @steelerfan76
      @steelerfan76 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I keep an old set or 2 in the freezer. Not sure why, but they seem to have a little added life to them. I notice this mostly with the A and D strings but it is true. They gain some responsiveness back and are serviceable til new strings can be bought if you are in a pinch.

    So... if I have done none of these yet, should I take off the strings and use a pencil, etc? Or should I just leave them?
