I bought one, partially based on this video and other overwhelming positive reviews. I really love it. I think the 7.25 neck radius is under appreciated as a key element in that vintage sound. It’s the best guitar for old school rhythm and sixties riff playing I’ve ever owned. There’s something about the way the strings snap and bounce back when you play on the neck that really evokes those old records. I love my Highway One Stratocasters for overall lead and blues but for riffs and rhythm, this is the best guitar I’ve ever owned. It has that certain quality of ring and punch of great old music, which I attribute to the neck. Thanks
Your demo sounds so much bettet through an a real amp. I managed to find an ex-demo one in Germany and was lucky to get it in white, totally unique and pure Fender tone and light weight. I nearly got the Broadcaster Re-issue but this has an acoustic resonance I rarely feel on new instruments so I went with the vibes in my heart cos I bought it to play it.
Putting together a partsoesquire really brought it home how successful Mr Fender's vision and design was from the beginning, and the switching (with some tweaks, I went with a cocked wah version) is totally usable in a playing setting. I also got a pine body, super light and really resonant. A tribute is entirely appropriate
I got myself a squire vibe esquire limited edition vintage white put a Jerry Donahue Seymour Duncan in and a cocked wah harness scrubbed fitted with genuine fender tuners and 3 barrel switch and it is of same build as 1952 esquire wow what a sound
No, Thad, I have not tried it. Not sure where to even get one. Thing is, this pickup is so great I'd be hesitant to swap it out. But I'll keep my eyes peeled!
Brett, did you prefer the tone of the Twilight (w/gain pedal) over the Super 15 direct into amp? I noticed that you used the Esquire into the Super 15 in another video. I have the Esquire and it is great...just trying to settle on the right amp.
No gates on my signal path. The pickup is surprisingly quiet and the amp is a safe distance away. Aside from that, I couldn't tell you why. But it's welcome!
No reason except that I think they're cool and I like the challenge of minimalism. I might mod it and put the SD Paisley pickup in under the guard, though.
I kind of wish they kept the mud pick up. Same with Broadcaster. It’s the same mistake on getting rid of the rhythm circuit on the jazzmaster. There is use for those tone less sounds. Especially if you have fuzz and or a treble booster. I feel fender needs to embrace their heritage and stop trying too hard to be modern. People buying an Esquire or Broadcaster know what they’re getting themselves in to
They ship the guitars (Esquire and Broadcaster) with the small mod to bring it into line with original config. I've tried both and prefer the newer mod with both fuzz and treble boosters so would never call it a mistake, just an enhancement.

Phenomenal! What a guitar. It’s all you need right there. Sounds great on the Magnatone. With the Wampler overdrive, it was tone heaven.

nicely done. . . great demo, fab chops mate !
That Guitar has great Twang. It has a real nice sparkle.
Excellent video as always.
Hey Brett, after watching all your clips with the Magnatone, I've finally pulled the trigger on one of these bad boys. Cannot wait!!
Every guitar sounds great with that amp. I'd like to hear the Esquire with a period correct tweed amp. please?
Sure. The Axe-FX III models are pretty accurate because Cliff owns a lot of the originals. So - your choice.
Thanks for the demo ...
My pleasure.
Hey Brett - Looks like you have an affinity for red guitars! Nice review, thanks; I just bought one of these (in the sunburst finish).
Hey Brett, did you ever try that SD Secret Agent Esquire pickup? I'm curious how it is. I've read mixed reviews.
Great video. Thanks.

@@BrettKingman Thank you for the reply. I was referring to adding a stealth (under the pickguard) neck pickup. I think you mentioned it around 03:21.
Does anyone know where there is a wiring diagram with the cap that makes the neck position sound so good?
Have you tried that guitar with a Mesa Cali Tweed? That Magnatone-Esquite combo sounds really nice. 👌👌👌

Keep it up man, your videos are great.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
M friend Benucio Garabaldi Enrique Gonzales III has one of these. It is quite good.
Great review and demo, strings (9's?) ring very nicely open, how much Burgs?
Thanks, Norm. Strings are factory 10-46's. Price will depend on territory around the world so I'll leave it to the viewer to do a local search.
@@BrettKingman Thanks Brett, suppose just my ear at always 10-52s:) Rare in Brisbane:)
Go on bang a Secret Agent in it. Awesome guitars..
im so jealous
forgive me if I missed a detail - why isn't the signal noisy?

Very nice...
Too pricey tho'...
Great playing, great tone, great demo...
Cheers 🍻
Thanks again, James!
I'd kill for a good Esquire (as a matter of speech off course).
Never really seen the point in a one pick up guitar. Any reason to get this one over a 2 p/p tele? Always like your videos mate
mojo
the neck pickup is positioned right at a harmonic node and the magnetic field dampens the strings. Single pickup guitars have more better.

@@BrettKingman I trust your judgement. Tbh I am torn between the two lol I am leaning more towards the Esquire because I am obsessed with Syd Barrett.
I agree
Roasted? With potatoes?
