Punching for HUGE Bass in HEAVY Cover

- Fishing for bass using the technique of punching thick grass is an epic technique. High intensity one on one fishing combat! Probably one of my favorite fishing patterns, using heavy weights, big flipping stick fishing rods, and heavy braid makes for one of the best bites on Lake Okeechobee any time of the year. Catching well over 20lbs on a day that was truly a grind!
Weather was partly cloudy, warm with a slight easterly breeze.

once again brother the edits are untouchable and your in your own lane. these lil kids cant comprehend
right on man!
Cant say enough about your personality Mike. Your expertise and explanation of how, when, where and what to do is so informative. You have a special ability to communicate and explain technique and presentation in layman's terms so that young and old can wrap their brain around what your talking about. Basically You Dah Man IMHO.
thanks sunny, just trying to share my perspective and learn myself in the process.
Love the shoulder cam! Feel like a 🦜 watching the balzz screeching em in!🎣👌👏💥🤘🤪
Great video ! ... I like how you explain the what, why, and how at the end of the video .. good Job !
tried to really lay the deets in this one glad you liked it.

@@mikeybalzz l have done that long time ago 😁😁😁👌🏻
@@collinsaunderson9225 much appreciated bro!
I can't tell you how much I dig your older movies of you punching. Those movies got me motivated to do the same. It seems you have shied away from punching here lately. Let's see some more flipping & pitching mats more movies on how you made your bones. 💯👍🏻thanks man 🐟🎣🚣🏻
not gonna lie charles i'd love to shoot more of those vids, problem has been the florida wildlife commission is spraying and killing nearly all the grass on lake okeechobee and lake kissimmee where i fish at. it's sounds crazy but there's literally no matted grass left to fish. it's pretty sad and it's really made for dirty water and a whole host of other problems. i'm hoping things are changing because there is nothing better than that punch bite!!!
mikeybalzz fishing Mother Nature getting destroyed and altered as always! 🤷🏽♂️
Dude this is my favorite video for punching lots of good info

Definitely keep doing vids like this tons of great info that can help anybody.

I was wondering how long you was gonna stay off shore. Nice to see ya back at hour olé stomping grounds.

This might be your best video yet! The edits are spot on and the content is awesome.

Great video can you do a 2017 rod and reel arsenal ? thanks man for great tips
will put something together down the line.
Dude, you're changing the game man. So much attention to detail, so much knowledge, and can tell it's all from hard time on the water. Much respect my man. I'm gonna have to come check out Florida before too long seems to be some TOADS. Keep it real Mikey.
thanks man! yeah these are some moody fish but when you figure it out from time to time it's unbelievable!
Mikey, I've been watching you for years and I truly appreciate all of your fishing advice! In my opinion, you are the most underrated fishermen on TH-cam. Keep up the great work and tight lines buddy!!!
really appreciate you watching man. makes all the work totally worth it!
Dobyns makes an 805 flipping rod in the fury lineup it's only like $100 but they're great rods
is it tip heavy at all. i found the 805 powell and dobns champion to be a little too much rod and tip heavy.
mikeybalzz fishing It is a little, yes. It's a very similar blank to the champions but without the high quality guides
These are my favorite and glad that you incorporated the same music Great job Mike
yeah i felt a little beat throwback was in order!
Still the best youtuber out there. How do you not have your own Television show. Keep it up brother. Been watching you since the old Jon boat days. Don’t change a thing

On lake o do you use electronics as much as on the new lakes you are fishing while cranking
Great Info for a newbie, Awesome Video, Thanks
Wish I could do some punching not grass in the lakes around me.
it's gotta be one of the most intense styles of bass fishing out there.
That Powell rod is nice!👍
amaizing Master off punching Mike
love me some mat fishing!
You're killing it with the awesome content bro!
thanks man, trying to step it up a notch.
Great video . I cant figure out why you dont have more subs. Your videos are always sick and on top of that you catch big ones ALWAYS.
is what it is man, i love making the vids and as long as that's the case the cams will be running!
Nvm u seem to answer that question at end of video lol but do you use both as much now. What type of boat do you have and what type of boat do you reccomend for a young hungry angler whose been fishing the bank his whole life but now is ready to take it the next step further. I want to thNk you because I learned so much from you. I watched all your vids and I ask you so many questions. Love that you get back to me at all of my questions. A great man and even greater fisherman. God bless
thanks man! you know my first real boat that i bought was an old 15ft jon boat with a 30hp tiller motor. i modded it out and put a deck on it and a cooler livewell. was a killer setup - small and not super fast but as a starter boat got the job done well and wasn't expensive to run or tow. you can see it in some of the earlier vids if you'd like to take a look.
Killer vid bro! I caught myself hanging on to every word as usual.
yeah decided to throw down on the deets!
this is how a fishing vid. is made
hahahah thanks man!
Classic Balzz!!!!!
gotta embrace your roots!
Get Video Mikey, no plunking 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
no plunking!
Good info dude...great videos and footage . Cheers from Ontario Canada.
thanks!
Dammit man I need to get my new boat in a hurry. Me punching the matts. Great video bro
get on it man!
Boat should be built by sept15 and then its on.
All you u tubers that live from the Midwest to the east coast have the best bass fishing in the country! There's a pond or lake every other mile that has bass in it. Come to Arizona and do one of your videos, let's see how you do!! Any idiot could catch fish when have unlimited places to go. Can't wait to see you fish in the desert!!😆
Are there times when plunking actually works better or causes a bigger reaction strike?
definitley, if they are active eating bream you'll actually hear them poppin under there. i've actually caught a few fish that blew a hole in the mat and took the bait.
As always, dude, you are the best!! Excellent video! I need to get together with you!!!!!!!!!!
What type of cover would you use a 1 ounce weight. Reason I ask because I always here the lighter the better. If you had one way to rig your flipping baits would you flip them naked or with a skirt
3/4oz to 1 oz i usually use when flipping pads, round reeds, cane and kissimmee grass. i'll use it on really thin mats too if i can get thru. you don't always need to use the lightest possible. sometimes that faster fall draws a reaction strike. i try to just not be crashing thru stuff with too big of a weight if that makes sense. in regard to the skirt i almost always start naked. but if i know i can catch them punching i'll have a couple rods rigged up and a punch skirt on one of them.
Exactly why are my favorite tuber!!!
Mike, have you tried head mount GoPro and do a stabilization in post edit?
tried another cam on my head for awhile and dropped it in the water. never done too much stabilization. recommendations?
Not sure what editing software you use but... there is Warp Stabilizer with Adobe Premier Pro?
GoPro5Black itself have some sort of built-in stabilization feature.
cool will check it out
Or download Demo version of Microsoft Hyperlapse Pro and play with it.
Check out youtube for reviews of the program .
Hope to see some upgrade video footages :D Cheers.
cool thanks man!
I didn't know that you work with Scott Martin! That's awesome dude! Love the vids, especially the ones on punching. It's something I'm trying to apply here in Iowa
i don't work with scott but i did get the chance to be on his show last year.
What size line do you use for puncheon on the power pole slick
in general 65# - but every once in awhile i'll go up to 80#.
Where you getting bulk bags from bro
i'm just dumping a bunch of stuff together man. easier to manage than little bags.
what lake where you in
lake okeechobee on the north end.
Hey Mike just curious what was the biggest bass youve lost flipping and what do you think happened? I lost a giant yesterday on a Why Not at the boat and its been haunting me since. Just want to know if i did something wrong or the fish just got the best of me. Thnx (love your videos btw def one of my fave fisherman!)
dude it's just a part of the game. when you're fishing heavy cover and dealing with big fish you're gonna lose some, it happens.
Another classic !
thanks man!
💯💪👊
right on!
Mike are you a video editing major??? because your video edits are fucking sick...The repeat of that bass flipping out of the water and your transitions music tempo etc is phenomenal...
thanks bro! no just played around with the vids for a long time now and just try to make it in a way that shows how i see things.
Kool!
I love learning new punching tip and I know not to plunk anymore
no plunking hahahah!
I know you have thousands of subs but you just a new one. I'm up here in north FL hope you get a chance to come up my way and do a video fishing the St. John's river! Thanks for all the great info!
What type of braid are you using
this was power pro slick, link in the vid deets.
How do you like it I use it for saltwater fishing and I have problems with it fraying
what size hook
and that bag of baits is that your sponsor or u buy them im bulk online
hook is a 4/0 and the bags are just me pouring a bunch of single bags together into bigger bags.
You're the heavyweight champ!
go big or don't go at all!
🔥 🔥 🔥
What hooks are you using man? I've bent out mustards and trokars rusted on me, so far the hack attack hook sang bent yet.
Using these right here www.tacklewarehouse.com/Strike_King_Hack_Attack_Heavy_Cover_Flipping_Hooks_4pk/descpage-SKHAFH.html?from=mkfish the Hack Attacks in either 4/0 or 5/0
Hey Mikey, I see You are using the dobyns 795. What are your thoughts on there 805 flip/punch rod? I am a short guy and was thinking the extra length would help with feathering the bait farther from the boat to the pressured fish.(1200 acre lake average depth 8-10ft and holds 32 tournaments a summer(michigan)) any info would help thanks, love the channel you put out some good videos.
as you know man rod choice is super personal preference topic so this is just my take. for me the 805 is too long and a bit wonky and top heavy (i.e. too much rod). personally i think a 7'9" rod is the perfect mat rod lenght - has just enough tip but gets to the back bone when you draw it down. only complaint on the 795 is it's a hair stiff for me. if it was like a 4 or 4.5 power it would be perfect. with that being said it's the best one in that size i've been able to find.
I kinda like it brown ..ha me too jk..good breakdown man
thanks for tuning in dude!
280 likes 1 dislike sounds like you have a hater my friend. Great vids you put alot into them I enjoy watching!
thanks man ahhahahah. they do take some time but i love making them! thanks for watching!
A tip...if you plan on doing a more informative approach: do a few feathered casts, pitching videos in the beginning. Otherwise, it is Spanglish to a lot of viewers
like a cut shot showing what i'm talking about?
Hey man Great video, I love watching your shows... Let get together sometimes ill love to get on the water with u
What type tungsten do you use?
i like reins stuff personally Reins Tungsten www.tacklewarehouse.com/Reins_TG_Tungsten_Slip_Sinker_Heavy_Weight/descpage-RTGSS.html?from=mkfish but i'll also play with a local brand called hawgtech as well. both are killer.
mikeybalzz fishing yes! Heard of both! Great vid!
