A large percentage of virtual synths you see on the market are what I would term “virtual analog.” Meaning they take their cues from hardware analog synthesizers (Moog, Oberheim, etc) but don’t necessarily try and model any specific one. You’ll find oscillators, envelopes, and filters but no two will sound exactly the same. In this video we’ll examine one example U-He’s Tyrell N6. A good exercise would be to make two similar sounds (a bass for example) in this instrument and in the OBXD. Both are subtractive synths, both use similar oscillators, and low pass filters, but the sonic results as you’ll hear will be quite different.
