I expect dry heat is not unpleasant like the humid summer days we have here! You are well way - Saturday was chill but cloudless and crystal clear, Sunday grey and dry but i made the Christmas cake for a friend and today was grey, chill and wet - utterly miserable! The only joy was pigeons feasting and stripping my love tree and a chance to write, seal and stamp Christmas cards! I should be in the studio tomorrow. This works very well and the calm water gives such wonderful reflections and you have caught the colour harmonies of the desert. I have noticed that you often have water in your paintings - there is a wonderful summing up of the differences between Benedict who founded the monastic order named after him and Bernard of Clairvaux of the Cistercian order. His orders building are so simple and have shapes and geometry rather than decoration! Their sites are also different leading to the crystallising of the difference between them: "Benedict loved the mountain tops and Bernard the valleys." Visit any lonely Cistercian site and you will not just see water but you will hear it! This is why people treasure them to this day. I shall have to email you some photos.
Yes the dry heat is definitely better than the humid heat, which I've experienced quite a bit when I've been painting in Brazil! I'm definitely drawn to painting water I think most of the landscapes I paint tend to have it in them! That's interesting about Bernard and Benedict and their different choices in the architecture and location for the buildings of their orders. I will have to keep an eye out for Cistercian sites it sounds like they would make a great subject to paint.
Very nice work George ,, I hope your enjoying your trip out there , we’ve been in Thailand nearly a month now managed 3 paintings as we’ve been busy looking after family but got lots to work on when I get home 👍👍
Thanks it has been great! The scenery is vastly different to what I'm used to and the weather makes painting outside more inviting. I hope you're having a good time in Thailand, that's a place I would love to paint someday! Good to hear you've managed to fit some painting in out there. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
We’re out here most Novembers until December for a month , that’s the best time for painting out as it’s far too hot March April time and then it rains till November so give us a shout if you do come over we can paint alongside , we’re based in the north east issan area , so Nong Khai and the Mekong areas are all within easy driving distance 👍👍
Thank you for these wonderful, instructive videos. I’m really loving them.
Thanks! I'm happy to hear that :)
