The sliding is manual, there's no motor. It's impossible for the camera to go up by itself.

Maybe a case that cover up the sides completely and has a tiny lip at the bottom so the screen can still slide down

@@Stellock what you're saying is idiotic. The cases are the very same as for any Phone but the bottom/ top (depending on which slider Phone you're using) is cleared out in order for you to be able to slide the camera out
@@nicovo7917 Dude? Most drops hit the surface with the top bezel, the most important part to be protected to protect the screen, no other drop shatters the screen to the extent when it drops on top or bottom part... If you remove protection to those two sides, it's down by half.

I think it should be a toggle-able setting. I wouldn't want to accidentally open my camera every time I'm feeling fidgety with the sliding function, probably would impact battery life

LOVE this. Hwawei is like what I liked about HTC 7 years ago.
I strongly believe this is the best implementation for bezelless displays, and I really like it. I would love it to become mainstream seriously.
It's too shit of a system to go mainstream. There's so much that can go wrong with it. Let alone that it reduces the water resistance by a fuckload.
The mi mix 3 did a better job by making their sliding system manual with magnets instead of being fully automatic like this

I think it's great. It's a thing from the past being used to make today's smartphones 'better'. I don't particularly see why bezeless displays are the new fad though. I mean I like my galaxy s8 plus, don't get me wrong, but companies have gone crazy with this whole thing. I wish there was more diversity in design like how it used to be. There were sliding phones of all types, sideways, up, down. There were physical keyboards and other neat stuff. I say bring that back. Please.

since getting the front camera is done manual, unlike the other smart phones that auto lifts, it means that when there are apps that try to access the front camera it isn't going to see anything unless you slide it open
This is my favourite implementation of hiding the front camera so far. However as you said people don't use front facing cameras that much. The ones that do are the kind of people that want the most fashionable products, the popular brands, so won't buy a phone that doesn't have fruit on the back. So I think the best implementation for bezel less screen is just remove the front facing camera completely

I think this may be the best solution to the notch, I never really thought of it, but it’s convenient. They should silence the sound and every time you slide it up it should launch the camera app to prevent using it as a fidget toy

Its a good idea. May change the market. People use front facing cameras all the time and borders on phones are slowly disappearing. One issue we run into with larger and larger screens is the camera. If this will eliminate the notch then im all for it.

I think this is the best way for selfie camera because now you have more space to put a better camera than a phone with a notch. And also you have space for face unlock which the Honor Magic 2 have.

I think this implementation is quite genius actually. Especially for the people who don't take a lot of selfies. You only need to pop up the camera occasionally, and then the other 99% of the time, you can enjoy your phone without a notch. But..how do cases work? There's the "gotcha".

Nah, big phone companies like Apple or Samsung will not introduce function like this to their flagship phone. They almost always try to make their phone fool proof. I mean, just from a stupid square iPhone people already complain about "bendgate" and "hairgate". Can you imagine how crazy people will go if iPhone is slidable, people will scrutinize and complain on everything that could go wrong from the sliding.
