Pretty sure paradox engine would go infinite in a deck with only 99 other basic lands tbh. The card is beyond busted in artifact decks. Great vid and deck as always, Legend :D
Metamorph as a copy of Sheoldred in Match 8 would have gained a lot more life than the 4 life of Sculpting Steel as another Mazemind Tome - more than enough to offset the 2 life it cost to play it for only 3 mana.
I was thinking the same thing but expecting a creature to survive against mono-black is a sketchy play. And also I think peer into the abyss etc. would still be lethal if both players had a Sheoldred? Allthough I might be messing up my "active player -> inactive player" interactions Edit: I did, in fact, mess up my interactions
@@themilkmon An easy-to-remember interaction about player/opponent stack ordering is when an opp's 1/1 devil token attack you with 1/1 pest token at 1 life, you'll survive the combat.
@@themilkmon Life gain can bring you back from lethal on the stack, as long as you are above 0 when the stack resolves you're fine. At least, that's my experience. I dunno if there are exceptions to this
Blue artifact decks always seem like the ones that go off. Granted, Paradox Engine and Mystic Forge usually do much of the heavy lifting. So it's really just variants of the same shell.
Awesome stuff. Been loving the new Historic Brawl decks you've been showing off. Especially loved Ivy. Hoping to maybe see one based around the new Garna later on down the line if inspiration hits.
New garna feels like a mardu all star, but on her own she synergises better with blitz and other things that want creatures attacking without care if they die or not.
57:18 A little neat trick is to activate Jhoira and with her trigger on the stack to activate Buried Ruin to make sure to get the Paradox Engine in play even if they kill Jhoira. It's the same when you are having Stoneforge Mystic and an empty Batterskull on the field. You just activate the Mystic and in response the Batterskull to still redeploy it, even if Stoneforge dies somehow in between.
@@LegenVD Right, but maybe it would've worked to tap her, put nothing in and keep the mana open, and if they don't destroy it, then do the trick in your turn, and if they wait until your turn, you would've got them anyway, because you can just do it in response, but who knows.
31:18 Could have put a stop on upkeep and put in Mazemind Tome in order to scry toward land a card earlier - missing on a land with that line still lets us cast Corridor Monitor -> put in Mind Stone with Jhoira… though it does strand the 1 colorless mana from Mind Stone and leave us unable to cast Emry that turn
With lithoform engine and 3+ mana from no lands you can spend two to copy the triggered paradox engine ability while it’s on the stack and make infinite mana. I believe it was doable in match two with tawnos+the ornithopter and signet. Not sure how relevant it is at that point with a paradox engine on board but it’s basically guarantee you get to copy every spell you cast that turn for free
They had two chances to find the missing white or blue source with Fable of the Mirror-Breaker 🤷♂️ They should have believed more in the heart of the cards 😀
if, at 18:20, you'd played Lithoform Engine with real mana, could you have used its first ability to copy Jhoira's ability, putting in both Nettlecyst and Mishra's Self-Replicator?
hold on.. 12:58 : when drawing your commander from your library, you can choose to put it into the command zone instead?? is that also the case in EDH? I have never seen or heard of that.
Anytime your commander “changes zones” you have the option to put it in the command zone instead They changed it because “tucking” someone’s commander basically meant they were playing pioneer
yes that is exactly the case in EDH, i'll grab the ruling for you. If a commander is in a graveyard or in exile and that card was put into that zone since the last time state-based actions were checked, its owner may put it into the command zone. If a commander would be put into its owner’s hand or library from anywhere, its owner may put it into the command zone instead. This replacement effect may apply more than once to the same event.”
(Tucking is in reference to shuffling the opponent’s commander with a chaos warp effect or commit//memory effect. You couldn’t put it in the command zone back in the day and just had to shuffle it up)
huh.. I never considered drawing a card to be a "change of zones" and thus allows you to put your commander into the command zone. mtg never stops surprising with odd rulings, I guess. thx for the answers guys!

Going "pretty infinite" with Tome of the Infinite really provides a lot of value.

Indeed, thus it being banned in actual EDH

Karn, karn advantage, and karnstructs… nice

You can actually build a decent peasant deck with her at the helm.

Yes, good interaction to point out. Although in this case we would still be a counter short of putting Engine in play since cmc is 5.

33:48 "Karn-struct tokens". Hehe.

You gotta make a equipment/aura deck for Danitha! Such a good card

@@LegenVD ah I must’ve missed the annotation
Man I've been waiting for this vid since release day 🙏
Love this deck! Have you considered playing the ozolith?
Didn't matter in the end, but you could've negated the Sheoldred damage by copying it with Phyrexian Metamorph. A well-earned victory, all the same.
Ah yes, that would've been the easier solution.
Mazemind Tome MVP!
Hey LVD, how about a deck built around Chaotic Transformation? I think that would be very interesting
That will be for my Patreon supporters to decide!
been waiting for this one
Just in time! was about to start lunch!
Karnstruct tokens!!! xD
More brawl woohoo!
No Mox Amber? Would it have a place in this deck? I'm thinking about crafting and playing this deck, just curious.
Could be ok, although if Jhoira doesn’t get removed we can generate a lot more than one mana.
@@LegenVD first TH-camr to ever reply to me. I pledge allegiance to you LVD

Could be worth revisiting.

Looks like they didn't have the mana to cast it.

That should work.
Ah yes... Jhoira, "Miss Infinite-Combo"
against Sheoldred, you could have copied sheoldred with the metamorph to kind of negate the life loss. Still found a way to win though!
Indeed, that would've been the easier solution assuming it survives.
Yeah it's a bit of a gamble since a mono black Sheoldred deck is likely packed with removal spells. Yours was the more effective solution overall
I, OTOH am going, where's Karn? Is not the sole win condition to burn them out with Karn's ultimate?
