    hi. can you power a video monitor with the power bank?

    • @captainfilmmaking
      @captainfilmmaking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! If it's a bigger Monitor like the Feelworld Lut6 (which you can see in a few b-roll shots in this video) you need a V-Mount battery like the Smallrig VB50/VB99 (links in the description) and power the monitor via D-tap or DC.
      A few of the smaller monitors like the Portkeys PT5 can be powered via USB. In that case the small XTorm power bank, which I mounted beneath the cameras mounting plate, would do the job.

    Guten Morgen nach Wien, darf ich fragen, ob der RS3 Pro einen V-Mount Batterieschuh unter der Kameraplatte besitzt, so, wie im Video gezeigt, dass man dort eine Batterie befestigen kann - wie Sie es zeigen mit Smallrig?

    • @captainfilmmaking
      @captainfilmmaking  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hallo Herr Schmolinsky, die Kameraplatten der RS-Serie haben auf der Unterseite einen Cold-Shoe Mount. Für diesen gibt es von Smallrig einen V-Mount Adapter (siehe Amazon Link: amzn.to/3VfYIUk) um auch eine V-Mount Batterie auf der Unterseite montieren zu können. Beim RS3 hat man im Vergleich zum RS3 Pro etwas weniger Platz und daher habe ich mich für die im Video gezeigte "do it yourself"-Lösung mit dem kleinen Akku-Pack und dem Smallrig Power Bank Holder entschieden. Liebe Grüße, Captain Filmmaking

      Sorry it took me so long to reply, I have used your links when purchasing. I would like to thank you, quick release and extension pole helps a lot when filming on a gimbal. I can’t explain why, but extension pole does help me with stability just by being attached to the gimbal. I also bought F38 Pro, it cost 4$ more, but it’s smoother and buttons are easier to press. I also upgraded to RS3 Pro as my RS3 had some issues balancing FX30 with cage and Tamron 28-75mm. Without a cage it performed great, but when I put cage on my camera gimbal was doing some odd things.
      Thank you once again for helping me out, I do appreciate it. I wish growth for your channel and for you as an individual in 2024.

    Also if using monitor on top of briefcase, balance it on the roll axis before using , took a couple of times of balancing camera then adding the monitor and realized I was stressing the motors because I didn’t realize the monitor on the briefcase handle was messing with the balance !

    • @captainfilmmaking
      @captainfilmmaking  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! Thanks for the input. But by definition, accessories on the briefcase handle shouldn’t have an influence on the balancing of the gimbal.

    • @captainfilmmaking

      Yes, I should have mentioned that - the cable is something, that can mess up things. It took me some time to find the right ones which are very thin.. I‘ve put a link to the one I use in the video description.

    For your smartphone, how do you use it as a monitor? Are there specific apps or anything like that?

    • @captainfilmmaking
      @captainfilmmaking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, there are a few apps: for instance Sonys native creator camera app, or the monitor+ app(which I use). Note that they’re not always practical to use in comparison to a wired dedicated monitor, because they sometimes have a lag or the wireless connection isn’t that stable.

    On the '360 vertical shooting mode' you still have all 3 motors to stabilise, different placement essentially but the functionality of every motor still operates the same. There is no difference in smoothness.

    • @captainfilmmaking
      @captainfilmmaking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment and your input! Of course all motors work, but the stabilisation performance isn’t as good when the gimbal is put into underslung mode. That’s especially true when using the 360 mode to get the cam into vertical where the main axis is put 90 degrees off to the side.
      For my testing it’s fine when you need a quick way to get vertical, but I would always prefer the DJI vertical mount whenever feasible.

    It also seems impossible to use the Bluetooth for any functions or you lose your phone connection, both cannot be used at the same time unfortunately. Either iPhone or Bluetooth focus motors but not both at the same time which is a bummer. I would love to use my iPhone with the Monitor and Camera app to tap to focus and change settings on my camera , so I guess the only option is to use the focus motor with the wired cable to trigger it. Thanks for the tips !

    • @captainfilmmaking
      @captainfilmmaking  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I guess that’s a general limitation of most Bluetooth based devices/function, which allow only to be connected/paired to one device at once.

    what do you think about the portkeys portkeys lh7p ? is it good, what do you think if it is compared with the atomos shinobi or ninja ?

    • @captainfilmmaking
      @captainfilmmaking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The lh7p is a great monitor - I use it myself. It’s quite bright, lightweight and well priced for its size. Especially when using manual anamorphic lenses I need a big screen for pulling focus manually. One downside is, that you can’t control the fan speed, which might be a problem if you’re using an on-camera-microphone.
      Shinobi and ninja are good options too, but a bit pricey and not as big. But they are well built and have slightly advanced user interface in comparison to the Portkeys. The Ninja is an option if you need external recording.

    Hi! does your briefcase handle when mounting on the right side of the Rs3 , is it difficult to switch toggles of the modes in the side mode switch of the gimbal ?

    • @captainfilmmaking
      @captainfilmmaking  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! By design the underslung arms are supposed to be mounted on the left side of the gimbal. With the original DJI handle and the older version of the Smallrig handle it's quite difficult to operate the mode switch if they are mounted on the right side.
      The newest version of the SmallRig handle has a little more space, which makes it possible to operate the gimbals mode switch, even when mounted on the right side of the gimbal.

    I'm looking for anyone in the DJI RS 3 community to help me with this. I purchased this gimble yesterday and I cannot get the app or the login page to work. I've entered all the information correctly (8 times). Then I got my wife, whose much more tech savvy, to try and she couldn't create an account either.
    Here's my question. Can I use this gimble without the app? I'm down to my last 2 of the 5 tries without the app.
    I appreciate any help or knowledge you'd like to share.
    Seriously
    A Newbie.

    • @captainfilmmaking
      @captainfilmmaking  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      hi Donovan, sorry to hear. According to my info you'll need to activate the gimbal via the DJI Ronin app on your smartphone so you can use it. After the 5 times of (free) usage, it will need to be activated.
      You can create your DJI account also on a computer and then login via your smartphone afterwards. If your DJI Ronin app has some problems, may try another phone or install the app again.
      Create your account first and try to get the login work on your computer or smartphone via the DJI Ronin app before you try to activate the gimbal.
      If the login works on your smartphone, then you can try to activate your gimbal. If that doesn't work, try to contact DJI support for more backup.
      Best regards, and good luck.

    Just got this rs3 2 weeks ago and would like to name some Con’s. The new way of attaching the focus rod is just stupid not to mention the 12mm rods it uses. The way you can only attach to the Arca Swiss plate is stupid since I have a cage with arca Swiss already and do not want to be forced to use the plate to mount my focus motor. 2. The lens support Y type attachment also does not reach any of my lenses bc the plate also makes it sit to high making it also useless.

The Smallrig half cage (which seems to be discontinued..) has a fix installed rod clamp, and the Smallrig FX30 full cage (amzn.to/4hzzJ7y) has a mounting point to fit Smallrigs rod adapter/clamp (amzn.to/48v94F7), which you can add as needed. @@ekphotography The "tap to focus" should work if you've connected your cam via Bluetooth to your RS3 in the same way, as you can start/stop recording via the red record button of your RS3. Im not aware if there are some limitations to that function, when it comes to "tap to focus" in regard to the RS3. If so, I think it has to with your camera, but if the tap to focus works on your camera, it should also translate to the record button of the RS3 too.
      In addition I use the M1 button to change between AF/MF. For that you have to set your function button #1 in your camera to this particular setting - AF/MF toggle, in this case.
      And then also set the M1 button in the RS3 settings to take over the cameras function button assignment.
