Philip's major back injury and resulting self-medication (aka heroin) slowly and single-handedly disintegrated Pantera and the music world unfortunately got to watch it in real time. without knowing anything about *why* he turned to such heavy drugs. the only thing that could have kept the disintegration from happening was if PHA had never injured his spine.
Fuck yeah he is! Pantera was the greatest fucking heavy metal band of all time for me and also one of the most important. They saved Metal in the 90s. But, Phil is keeping on and he still loves making great music. Metal bands were a different breed back then. So damn cool. So much presence, so much cool and charisma. You couldn’t help but pay attention. Compared with band interviews today. They may as well be a bunch of accountants. They have the collective personality of a piece of chalk.
I don't necessarily agree with that and you should probably look further into newer bands in the metal scene but I do like the fact that back then even the host could call out bands like Metallica for being sell outs and now today, we are so far into late stage capitalism that we are called elitists when we call out bands for treating music as a cloutchasing business *cough* bring me the horizon
