Pal, I've been researching for WEEKS, and am HOURS away from buying (it's in my cart). Something deep down made me suspicious of this exact articulating arm in the exact place it failed you from just looking at the pictures. I kept researching trying to find anyone who would talk about it, as I know a thing or two about these arms from the videography world. Not a single person or review ever mentioned it. I swear if I didn't watch your video in the next hour I would've paid $300 right now and would've HATED this thing.Thank you!
Louis Rossmann (great TH-camr) goes through a lot of this stuff, and he recommends AmScope but with the boom and simul-focal, for the same reasons as in this video.
If you watch electronics repair people like Louis Rossmann, they explicitly say go for a simul-focus trinocular and also recommend the boom arm over the articulated as any benefits of the ease of movement of the articulated is negated by the fact the microscope head vibrates easily. The boom arm types are more awkward to adjust but keep the microscope a lot more steady. Sorry you never found this out in time.
I feel another problem is the articulation would benefit heavily from being bolted to the wall instead of on the table, it removes lots of vibration issues id imagine
The problem is they discuss the wrong thing. Vibration is easily mitigated by mounting on something like a shelf or nearby desk. I watched Louis, but assumed I'd just mount it off the desk. I would be wrong, and only this fellows video actually points out vibration isn't the only concern. Arguably, this defect is even worse as sagging is a gravity issue not a movement issue, and does not go away just being still
Thank you for a absolutely fantastic product review. I am in the market for a scope and you video plus comments will no doubt help me make a much better choice. Thanks.
Good description of under-reported info ! Indeed, ive been trying to compare stereo trinocular features & they don't make the simul-focal feature very transparent. Apparently with simul-focal theres a prism in there that would divide the light to the camera port so one eyepiece would show 100% light while the other eyepiece would be split 50/50% between the camera. I don't know enough optics to know whether that would matter. I guess depends on use case whether 100% light is necessary for camera imaging.
Hi my friend. Greetings from Germany, although I’m originally Hungarian and was born in Romania, so putting it all together makes it quite complex :) We have a lot in common, especially since I also have a daughter who wants her own TH-cam channel, and I’m interested in electronics too. I’ve started working on projects in my basement. That’s why I searched for Amscope on TH-cam, to find useful information on which microscope to buy, as I’ll be getting one for Christmas from myself :) This video is very helpful, and you’ve gained a new subscriber to your channel right away. You’re very likable and your video was a great help. I wish you and your family all the best, you’re awesome! Regarding your daughter, my daughter has a TH-cam channel too, but I’m a bit hesitant to let her show her face on it. Therefore, I’ve restricted her to uploading gameplay and edited videos where she doesn’t have to show her face, as I’m concerned about potential issues and feel she’s not prepared for that yet. I wish you all the best'
Good review of your microscope, I'm currently looking at the T490B to use for looking at blood, small insects etc. I'm sure the build quality is better than the models that you can freely move.
@@nurshahiraruslan9644 no, only recently I'm looking at microscopes again, but I guess it won't keep me interested for long. Have 10x-50x macro lenses I used 5 times.
I recently bought one but the trinocular lever to switch from eyesight to camera appears already pushed out but the vision still works even with my covering one or the other eye. It also doesn’t like to push in even under some force. Any tips on to resolve that?
YEP, i have seen that through many years of youtube videos, they Allways leave out a certain step/piece of information. then you have to watch 20 videos to figure it out!
my 2 cents : between a stereo or a trinocular wihout simul focal, i would choose the first one : -you'll never know when the mecanical inside the last willl break because you switch again and again on your camera, -the stereo one is 100$ cheaper ? but you can find a mount for a smartphone to fix it on microscope (on one of the ocular) i can't totally agree with you about not finding video about simul focal, it's just ,for the most part, they are not on electronic repair chanel ;) (or the info are find in 3sec of a 30min video) and on electronic repair channel, they just say to buy this or that one (precisely) for amscope ,in the sm series, the P is the key : SM-3tp sm-4tp sm-8tp have simul focal
Firstly, you are correct, that scope does differ slightly in design. As U.S. Consumers we've come to expect a certain level of disclosure that the Chinese conveniently haven't attained. Unless you contacted AmScope and tried to rectify the misunderstanding, AmScope didn't have an opportunity to respond and consequently they have no need of a defense. AmScopes are good scopes for the money. However, buying from China requires more diligence than we in the U.S. typically expect. I did a little research on the AmScope site and downloaded a User Manual for the SM-6. The scope they depict in the manual differs slightly from your scope as well. However, on page 12 of the manual, they demonstrate the use of what they characterize as the "selection pole". Odd nomenclature, but that's China. Some Chinese companies don't even provide a manual for certain products and if they do, it might only be available in Mandarin. Admittedly, they don't explicitly state what that mechanism does, but the fact that it exists, gives me pause. I realize that having to go to tho tse depths, to be sure of what you're purchasing, may seem onerous, but that's China. If you bought it thru Amazon, there should have been a return policy. I've had great luck returning items. If it's any consolation, even their 1.6K, GM-400, stereo microscope operates the same way. I'm sure at some price you could find a true trinocular microscope, but I doubt it would be in our budget.
I like the UHM350-11 from amscope. It is monitor only- no binocular. The lighting works well. Looks like they stopped making it but there is a UHM210-11 that looks similar.
@@sethreign8103 When you use a binocular microscope do you get depth perception? It seems awkward to lean over the eye pieces but maybe there is a big advantage.
I bought an AmScope ESSLNB 40X-2000X and have not been able to see anything other than on it's lowest magnification setting. I'm not sure it's broken, or if I'm doing something wrong, but the manual is so bad I can't quite tell. Is there a way to contact the manufacturer for help, or do you know of any useful vids specific to this model? Thanks.
I went for the Amscope trinocular (same you got since for occasional use I didn't have the budget for simulfocal, it's still fine to use) on a boom arm ... after checking a lot of YT videos. For the camera I settled on a Hayear, which has a very complete setup (SD, HDMI, USB) ... I even added a large zoom lens so I can use it independently as an overhead cam :D
It's extremely stable, but you need more space so you can swivel it out of the way for storage. And never... ever... drop the base on your fingers or toes 😁
buy a used or new ergotron monitor arm, then you can buy VESA Adapters, and get that mounted and flexible perfect. i probably should do a video on it, it works great! i have a laptop rigged up. also buy iFootage Spider Crab arms, they are the BEST Hold some weight and don't move.
personally, I prefer O.C. White! not as cheap but worth it! you can get the trinocular with camera for about $3700, the typical boom stand which you can move forward and backward without the axis turning on you. I feel your pain on the AmScope! O.C. White PZ6.5 trinocular cam does not leave you with mono-vision and plugs into USB and you can just select it like another camera in your computer. I also like the .7X Barlow lens which allows me better visibility for inspection and soldering the new 008004 size components, no problem with the 01005's.
Ouch, you got ripped off. its $200 for the scope on its own and $200 for the arm. picking an alternative brand without the stupid little side metal pull arm is better.
Agreed. 100% customer issue, do your own research and read the specs. Not all trinoculars are simul-focal. If it doesn’t say simul-focal….plus if your see the switch on the head you know it’s not simul-focal. And that’s the way Barlow lenses work. You can’t argue with physics. There’s a lot to learn with microscopes and the industry doesn’t help themselves.
@Markus how do you logically go from saying it's 100% the consumers fault then go on to say the industry doesn't help itself which suggests that it's partly the fault of the entire industry?
@@markc.5750if you’re new to something, you likely don’t know there may be advantages and disadvantages to product differences. There are several basic differences in how they work, but manufacturers often don’t articulate those differences. I do agree that Barlow adapters change the focal length of the objective. That’s their purpose. Giving more working distance is what he needed. And yes, it should be understood that it would make the scope ride higher.
