Worked as a stage hand for them in 90s in Belgium, we watched from above! Never heard of them but.. blown away..best quote from one of the band members , " ..there's all these goths here..but we're not goths!!!" Haha Talented and different!! Great group
Most people don't understand the 'Cranes', but their usually unimaginative buffoons anyway. We lucky few are people who understand their pedigree, are often met with; a desolate angst at heart, are often hypnotically vexed, ferreting a haunted spector within a dream, and the surrealist painters of sonic architecture. I've always appreciated the fact that the 'Cranes' are a brother and sister act, which is an extremely rare to achieve in this industry. Perhaps what the best part is that an entirely new generation has discovered that bittersweet undulation of unique sounds for themselves, giving our favorite musicians a real chance to develop some new music once again. I get the chance to talk with many of them, who seem to have a genuinely interested in learning from those who experienced everything first-hand. Cheers ―
In 1990 I'd just bought the EP but no idea what the band sounded like. First time I heard this, I thought I had the record on the wrong speed and thus played it again at 33 rpm. That kind of made more sense at the time. Then after changing it to 45 rpm I realised that I was completely wrong. I just wasn't expecting her voice to sound like that :D This is still one of my all-time favourite songs :)
they've got their Peel Session LP coming out in a few months and they just announced a show in October with the original band lineup, first time with that lineup since '95! new music from Cranes may be closer than we think :)
There has never been a band whose music makes me feel the ways theirs does. I discovered them in 1991 by watching "120 Minutes" and bought their debut album. It's inexplicable. Powerful, beautiful, sad, odd, weird, terrifying, transcendent. Later they opened for The Cure, and it cemented my eternal love for them. I am very happy they are making a resurgence this year!

They say that if there was air pressure in outer space and the sun could transmit sound waves that it would sound like a train horn, in your face, blasting at max capacity. Or about half as crushing as that guitar at 30 seconds. Fucking brutal.
If you understand this... Then you are English! Most of my friends hate them... I put them on live a few times... I love them, not only because my mum's maiden name is Shaw! So cool, so different ❤️
I could never get the lyrics to this song maybe it's better to interpret in one's own way: There's Hope / There's Hurt (?) Me & You (See on Through) now /not? Supposed too Support Too Sip on Tea onto / into Death? (Shouldn't be me & you not supposed to be a friend?) At Sunset At Sussex time It's all been said Time to go to bed. Complete (?) Time to go to bed Now to go to bed? Not that they're not dead?

'120 minutes' brought me here, 32 years ago, believe it or not...
Ending the video with the close-up of a cat is the most Cranes thing they could've done, which I absolutely love.
Why?
CRANES:
absolutely, totally addictive...
agreed
This is scary and beautiful in a strange way.
Southern Goth style
holy shit!! the only reason I love "Vevo" now, it's because they uploaded all this lost videos from Cranes!!!
f.u.-ck vevo

That's the fourth time this week I've read someone else mention MTV's '120 Minutes', but we both share the same sentiments for our Cranes.
This band takes me back to my youth, loved them.
Just hearing of this band. Amazing sound. I want all of their records.

Alison Shaw typed them all up in a lyric book, released in 1998, think it was called "Till the stars shine" but I think it's out of print for a while.
