Presenting the Lawrence Wetlands Preserve

SEF’s newest facility, the Lawrence Wetlands Preserve is an 8.5-acre urban nature center located in Chestertown, directly adjacent to the Foundation’s Holt Education Center. The Preserve features a variety of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, including swamps, woodlands, non-tidal wetlands, shrublands, meadows, and a fresh-water pond. Through 2022, SEF is offering limited programming for schools at the Preserve while it works to create public access infrastructure on the property, including trails, boardwalks, and a 1,200 sq.ft. Nature Center. When fully operational (2023), the Preserve will host programs that build student environmental literacy, and focus on the connection between land use and the health of the Chesapeake Bay.
