What this captures best is the sinking feeling and horror of the world falling down around you as you stand there isolated. And the isolation part is key because one of the most essential things about the film and manga is they depict a future without the internet. A kind of isolation we have forgotten ever existed in today’s world.
Believe me dude, it still exists. When you don't know your neighbours, don't speak the same language as the people you pass on the street (in your own country, no less) and your very existence seems to no longer be wanted, you feel it.

The guy that makes Keygen Chuch also makes Master Boot Record which is banger after banger. And of course there's the amazing Susumu Hirasawa, his 'Parnesian Circle' got used in RUINER and you can see the Akira influence all over that.
