My biggest problem on TH-cam with learn to diy videos is that folk move so fast through the steps that one doesn't actually learn how to diy. But with you, being a Christian, you slow things down a bit so people can really see the process. That's the heart of Christ...no tricks...so super duper do it so fast so no one learns anything, but presenting tasks in a way that someone can learn. Thanks so much. You probably can't imagine how many people are learning something from you. I know you are learning too. But the house is getting built and standing strong, and passing inspections.
The most beautiful part of video is your family's happiness. You live in an unfinished home but you all make us feel that you live in a palace. People should taste the feeling of creating something just like you. Waiting for the nex video
I agree with you Sarah, but is it warmer inside, ask your Dad to put a couple of mapvents through the floor by the fireplace to cut down on the drafts.
Martin just a note. You may want to use some spray foam around your windows and doors it will cut down on the cold getting in. Also before you close those exterior walls in. Use some spray foam behind the electrical boxes it will cut down the cold. You and your family are doing a great job. Oh, if you all have a Habitat for Humanity Store in the area it's a great place to shop for building materials.
There is a better way to install windows. Some manufacturers including Jeld-Wen now recommend flush cutting the wrap around the opening. Folding the house wrap in is going out of practice because it prohibits a positive contact between the flashing tape and the wood on the sill plate, and also prevents a good air seal around the window. When you fold it in, the wrap can allow air (and water for that matter) to travel under the wrap and past the spray foam/insulation. It's just better to cut it flush. Everything else was pretty good though. Just wanted to pass on some info. I hope it helps :) I just found your channel so I'm sorry for sounding critical on my first comment. I'll have to check out the rest of your vids and see what you have going on.
It is super exciting to see all the windows in !!! Great job guys !! Must be such a great feeling... even to be up off the ground more often than not. 🌞
Seems like yesterday that I installed 34 Marvin Integrity windows in our newly purchased old coastal cottage 2400sq ft. Done in a similar fashion to yours. The really scary part is that house is sold, my girls own their own homes, and we are in a condo on the beach in another State. 19 years goes so fast, especially when you are working. Enjoy this time. Savor it, because it will soon be long gone. Great work! Great video!
This is such a great channel. I enjoy and look forward to every update. Im learning so much! I love how you take us along and show us the process without it being a boring building how to video. Such an awesome journey ♡ much love to your family from ours offgrid in the big woods of northern Minnesota ♡
Insulation isn’t stapled to the wall. To make it a air barrier and to keep it in place. And you can also tape the seams so it really doesn’t have any air coming in.
Like it.....I've had many years of happiness with my jeldwins! Far better than many of the ones that some of the so called pros install at more than 1/4 the price.......and your even putting them in correct!!!....seen pros put in windows without using any of the sill seal tape or the caulking! Keep up the good work, good to see its a family affair! Everyone helping out!
Wow those windows were so much easier than my wood framed windows I installed many years ago which have since been replaced with double paned plastic ones which I was smart enough to have the professionals do.
Nice reuse of the tent for storing the firewood. Have you looked at one of the Chinese diesel truck/rv heaters as a backup heat if you ever need to be away for a few days in winter? The ability to set it for 50-60F to keep the pipes from freezing would free you up for trips over winter without the need to install a full system or drain the pipes each time.
If I recall, you really took your time to carefully measure, square, level, plumb and brace when you framed. This really made your window install almost flawless. Great job ! What's next ?
Great to see you having fun installing windows. I am so glad you found some. The norm is that it takes three months when one has a personalized window or door order. p.s. Sarah I noticed your hard work on stacking the firewood...great work in helping out your parents!
Maybe do that small peel and stick square peice first then do the seal might protect you more from having water get in because it rolls down and idk I feel the joints would be under the top layer so there is no possibility to get in but never done it b4 just a suggestion looking good now i wanna build lol.
oh iya..maaf pak martin... mau tanya ..kok ahli bikin rumah..memang basicnya arstictur / ..kah ? bekerja sendiri dengan keluarga....🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 sy benar benar salut...dengan anda martin
Years ago I installed double hung vinyl windows in my last house. Was never able to get them to seal between the windows.Single hung are better.Home I have now are all slider windows which seal the best in my opinion
In this episode of our off grid cabin build series, we are installing Jeld-Wen windows with nailing fins in our off grid cabin. We are homing our cabin will be much warmer after the windows are installed. )
Central Florida Prepper 😆 It’s really difficult to say since this is our first winter here. Hopefully all winter but I have a feeling we’re gonna need more.

I don’t know if my question is to personal, how much money you have spent to live off-grid? Can you tell me roughly? Is it cheaper? how far your home to your surrounding neighbours or near shops? Thanks.

Congratulations. A job well done all around. wood and windows.
Good thing you’re dried in, none too soon.
Probably should put the corners in first then the big pieces for the seal pan
That would work too.
Looks good I’m sure you are happy to have that done
Definitely put the corners on first over time you will get water behind the part on top of the corner
Are you guys going to go through and Staples in along the insulation after you get the wiring done?

Pak Martin, kalau boleh tau berapa habisnya biaya membangun rumah Pak Martin?
Sepertinya sangat rumit dan banyak hal yg diperlukan.
You should put the piece in the corner 1st so it overlaps
Windows in and sealed but no tyvec above them won't water run down behind the tyvec below and come through the windows?
It is not done yet. We ran out of house wrap. It will be done soon. One step at a time.
