  • Do you want to live abroad as an Expat or Nomad? Are you looking for the best country to retire to? Invest in? We are exploring the world to see what it's like to live in a country, and we attempt to answer these questions, we also do the tourist stuff, have adventures, and we explore if Residency is an option.
    We began our retirement in March of 2020 with the intent to travel the world, spending 1-3 months in a country or location. We want to see what it's like to live there and not simply visit, and we want to share these experiences and the costs with whoever wishes to follow along, so please subscribe to our channel.

    That's awesome, Warren and Julie!
    I'm a Black American from New York City who stayed in Novi Sad for 6 weeks less than 2 years ago, and the people there were so nice it was like some kind of fairy tale.
    I kept pinching myself. I couldn't believe that, on this Earth, that many people in a city could be that super kind and friendly.
    And the food was great. And the hotel fees fantastic.
    Although I was only one of four black people I saw in the entire city, the people there were absolutely wonderful. I don't think they even heard of racism before. lol
    If only a few more amenities were there, and Amazon shipped there, I probably would have stayed there for the rest of my life.
    Novi Sad people are almost the polar opposite of Belgrade folk.
    Novi Sad rocks!!!

      This is awesome. I am thinking of visiting both places but am curious about why you say its the polar opposite of Belgrade... was Belgrade less friendly?

    • @masterprophet8378
      @masterprophet8378 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@AllanZhang16 , indeed, I got robbed in Belgrade, twice, and every person I met there was incredibly rude.
      But in Novi Sad, every single person I met there during my entire 6-week stay was incredibly friendly. And 4 of them told me themselves that Belgrade has a number of unsavory characters. And I hadn't even told these Novi Sadians of my bad experiences in Belgrade.
      Others say they've met wonderful people from Belgrade. I cannot discount their experience but, as for me, my experience in Belgrade was the worst I've ever had anywhere of the 7 European nations I've travelled to.

      Cornelius sounds like a Romanian name. I think Romainan Orthodox liturgy is pretty much the same as Serbian Orthodox...

    • @cjgumbert
      @cjgumbert 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@chilechichich465 You're correct, it's an identical liturgy (whether the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, the Liturgy of St. Basil the Great, or the Liturgy of St. James the Apostles) across all Orthodox Churches. The monks at Kovilj are known for some exceptionally beautiful Byzantine-style chanting in Church Slavonic that makes their liturgy stand out from most liturgies you'll find in both Serbia and Romania (not to mention many other places).

    So happy for you!! My wife and I have family in the Kragujevac area, so we are planning on retiring there. We like Belgrade, but it's(I hate to say this) too noisy, crowded, polluted and dirty. Novi Sad is a different world as is much of Vojvodina. From what we saw, Montenegro is very nice, but for us, it's just a place to vacation. What we lack here in the states is the whole outdoor caffe culture, we have waiting in line at a drive thru @ Starbucks. You are living my dream, getting out of the suburbs and being able to walk everywhere, safely.

    Actually Google translate was more correct than the waiter when translating "Kombinat" as a word. It doesn't mean "factory". It means "made of combined things". But traditionally this name was given to factories which combined multiple production technologies, in Vojvodina typically breeding of animals and crops and making final products like soup, mustard, mayonnaise, sossages and so on. So it is a word for factory in Serbian but without the background story behind the word you simply can't know that.

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is some paperwork involved. The best thing to do is get with your veterinarian and ask if they offer international health certificates. If they do not, ask if they can refer you to anyone. You will have to have an international health certificate for Serbia. The good thing is that Serbia requires very little other than the international health certificate and the rabies vaccination being up-to-date. In contrast, numerous other countries require several additional vaccinations. You may also wish to review the USDA Aphis website. Serbia is probably one of the easiest European countries to bring your dog to. Hopefully, your pug is small enough to fly with you inside the plane. If not, that breed unfortunately is banned for cargo with several airlines. I’m not sure of your timeline, but if you are looking at at least three months from now, I would advise you to consider the rabies titer test. This test is not extremely cheap but it will help you tremendously in seeing the continent. If you plan to travel outside of Serbia with your pug, going to an EU country and getting the EU pet passport will be very beneficial. We chose to go to Bulgaria and get the pet Passports. They were $40 for two of them. That is very inexpensive. It is a wonderful thing to have. The rabies titer test will make this so much easier. You must make sure you have all vaccination records with you.If you visit countries like Montenegro which is considered a high rabies country and then you try to go to an EU country, that is where the rabies titer and pet passport will be invaluable. The rabies titer will be required to travel from montenegro to an EU country. I hope this helps and I hope it is clear. If you have further questions just let me know.

      @@WarrenJulieTravel I got some surpricing info how expensive housing & heatlhcare are in the US: for example, an MRI scan costs $2600... it is crazy, it is a rip off schema! Here in Seria it costs $200 (or so). OK, to be honest, the labor market is not so great here, so if you want to find a job in Serbia and to work for someone else, you won't end up being satisfied with your life, but if you have money and want to just spend it here (and maybe start your own small business) and live a good life, Serbia is an ideal place to be. It is nothing more than common sense reasoning, so I always wondered why don't more foreigners choose to live in Novi Sad!?

The vaccination is going slower now but still, lot of people vaccinated, some people had Covid and now have antibodies, and it's summer, people are outdoors mostly so those 3 factors combined give us much better numbers then 3, 4 months ago...

    I have (almost) the same few questions I had for Montenegro:
    a) Where would be a good starting point for researching real-estate, primarily agriculture/homesteading around Novi Sad from your experience?
    b) How do they handle the Covid situation? How about vaccinations?
    c) How / what is the local produce? What kind of fruits and vegetables grow there and/or are produced there?
    d) How's the winter in the Novi Sad region?
    and a last one:
    e) how's the medical situation? Are there doctors (dentists, GP, etc) who are up to date in their medical education/equipment?
    And finally
    f) how do you get to Novi Sad? 700 km by car, or plane or train?
    Thanks.

      Regarding centralization, I agree that there should be more freedom for cities and municipalities.
      Also,
      should be more freedom for municipalities of city of Belgrade. Belgrade is very centralised also.
      About the stealing.
      The population of Belgrade makes up 25% of the population of Serbia
      and
      Belgrade receives 4% of the money from the central budget for cities and municipalities. That number dropped from 7 to 4 percent 15 years ago.
      For example Novi Sad makes up 5% of population and receives 7% of money,
      Niš makes up 3-4% and receive almost 7%...
      What is main problem then?, main problem is a people.
      Lot of people on one place attracts other people to come to live there.
      Lot of people means big chances your business will be succesful.
      In central part of Belgrade you can open a stone store and it will works fine.

      However, it's slowly picking up and we'll most likely have serious waves in 2-3 months.
      Last week it was around 100 new cases daily, which is considered pretty safe. This week it's around 200.
      The worst we had was around 10000 a day a few months ago.
      But now it's pretty relaxed.
      Still, to enter Serbia, look up the Entry requirements.
      www.mfa.gov.rs/en/citizens/travel-serbia/covid-19-entry-requirements

    I am from Finland, but my roots come from Serbia. I have met more positive and kinder people here in Novi Sad compared to Helsinki. But the parties suck here in Serbia compared to rest of the Europe. There might be some crazy clubs in Belgrade but nothing compared to Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany etc. As a party person, clubs in Novi Sad suck. But the people are very kind and the food / drinks are very cheap you actually enjoy them, because the beer can cost 6-10 euros in Finland, i found beer with 1-1.5 euros in Serbia. At the moment cigarettes cost 8-10 euros in Finland it's just straight robbery. The only thing i don't like in Serbia, especially Novi Sad is that it's super dirty and filled with beggars and poor people who look at you down, because how wealthy you are. Though i found it still easier to get friends in Finland rather than my own country Serbia, because the culture in Serbia is so different. You can get a lot of friends in Finland and the rest of the EU countries by going out to cafes, bars etc. In Serbia you can't even stare the other person without getting into troubles, especially if you even accidentally stare another man's wife or something. The moral is so high in Serbia it's something i value but i also don't like it a lot, no freedom. Feels like people still live in 1950s.
