Prof Keith seemed impolite with his condescending attitude towards Eric. He certainly could disagree but laughing and smiling cynically lower his own status and dignity. To this Debate I wish to state Keith should seriously re-examine that the concept of Democracy is not a ‘divine prescription’ for every country. So long as the “vast MAJORITY in China has been alleviated from Poverty”, the Concept of Democracy (majority over minority voice and vote - individualism vs collectivism culture) would need to be re-examined and redefined. In some war-torn Africa countries (maybe Prof Keith’s ancestral land) FOOD and shelter are far more important than “Empty Democracy”. Francis Fukuyama, the famed political scientist, conceded that centralised systems can deliver economic outcomes that are superior to decentralised inefficient democratic regimes. Would Keith’s sneering attitude one day be turned to an envy ?

And also people hear of what they want to hear. At least I went to China numerous times , and talked to many, I definitely think people are quite satisfied of their governments for what they did for their people at least for the last few year. Especially after many of them had chances to experience western countries.

  • @---oi3gs

As of the date of this video, a lot of what is said by keith already sounds comically outdated. While it is still true that people "go to Silicon Valley for innovation and creativity...", by no means is the U.S. the only major hub for innovation anymore. China has already been steadfastly transforming itself in becoming a major creator and innovator, a fact that only someone living under a rock would still be oblivious to. And just like almost any American news "report" written by the typical American journalistic ignoramus and self-deceiving mouth organ, keith doucheburg could not avoid admitting to the truth even as he bent over backwards in an attempt to downplay it by masking his admission within a lot of chaff in the form of more emphases on, and changing the topic to, less significant and more myopic anecdotal examples. When he admitted that "China's young people may feel that they are better off than their parents were...", that admission alone should have stopped his own argument, not only because it means that he already conceded to Eric X. Li's point about China's optimism, but also because that fact alone is extraordinary when compared to the reality in the U.S. and most other "Western" countries. What proportion of the young people in America feel that they are better off than their parents? If only keith's eyes weren't so blind and his brain so dead, he would have understood that most of his rant actually directly or indirectly bolsters Eric Li's points. Surely, as an "American journalist", you should not be ignorant to the overall situation in your own country while bitching about others, right, keith? Why do doucheburgs like you almost never focus on the far more severe problem at home in America and other Western societies, and almost always like to run your tongue on dirt elsewhere?

    • @---oi3gs
      @---oi3gs 6 ปีที่แล้ว

-kim jirk Apparently, since you can't even comprehend what I wrote to you, what's the point of replying to me? Additionally, as always, your comment contains absolutely no logic or sense whatsoever. Let's see, just like countries run by white people, Japan has been languishing and stagnating at the bottom of a cesspool of incompetence, incapable of dragging itself out of the shithole that it had dug for itself for a very long time. Therefore, that's the exact opposite of "owning up to the problem" that they created for themselves, because if they could "own up to the problem", then even if they were just a bunch of retards, they would have been able to climb out of their own shithole by now.
Likewise, thinking and acting like white people means, in this day and age, cowardly and passive-aggressively projecting their own insecurities, incompetence, mental and social diseases onto everyone else who's different from the Prozac-popping Western masses, who could only mentally masturbate to their government and media propaganda of "free society" and "free media" all while these societies of white people disintegrate into a cesspool of racial strife, rampant racist violence, mass shootings, schizophrenic paranoia, abysmal political incompetence, retarded leadership at every level, ossified political system incapable of reform, rotting social foundations, and skyrocketing phenomena of pandemic ignorance and dumbing down of the general populace to the point of being most often unable to even comprehend what they read or correctly interpret the intentions of one another. Look in the mirror for a case in point. If all of these, and more along the same lines, are examples of your "civilized Western approach", then nothing whatsoever could be logically defined as barbarism, retardation, and incompetence among all of the primate species.
That you constantly obsess over China's "orphanage" issue shows one of three possibility, or most likely two of the three, about yourself: (1) you were a female orphan there who had been discarded by your Chinese daddy, then underwent a sex change operation with a name change. (2) your mommy was such an orphan, hence the apparent obsessive-compulsive fixation and chip on your shoulder. (3) you're so desperate to grasp at straws in trying to find problems about China that the orphanage issue is the only one you can latch onto, all while an infinite number of far greater problems are plaguing your home country, the U.S., and other Western societies, as rampant racial conflict, mass violence, mass hysteria, mass paranoia, mass ignorance, mass incompetence, mass retardation, etc., etc., have all begun to send Western societies down the shitter.
In stark contrast, thankfully, China's keith doucheburgs have been shipped to shithole countries in the West to mix with increasing throngs of kindred white trash and losers like yourself. And of course, a dickless coward like yourself would speak glowingly about keith doucheburg and Japan, because both are symbols of subservient lackeys toeing the line that was set by their white masters long ago.

But now you're calling them "respectable", which means that you're obviously crying sour grapes while watching China succeed, in sharp contrast to the failing Westerners and Japanese who are worse than dog shit and being flushed down the shithole, deservingly so. Comprehend, Kimberly? Good girl. ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Western intellectuals must learn to be pragmatic people. This professor seems to speaking for the rights of the people, but the fact is he didn’t realise each country has its own law and circumstances. It is no point interfering in other ctries affairs.Every country has their own difficulty. You go and ask the US Federal govt to ban guns in US.See what type of response he gets. Btw, the Chinese could still watch videos from elsewhere , using VPN. That means the govt is not really forbidding its ppl to ‘ break’ the rules. It is just making them harder to get the kind of disruptive news they want.

i'm wondering why nobody has done a democratic debate amongst politicians in HK. The mere fact you have politicians still trying to insist on the 5 demands like granting amnesty to all that have been arrested.... They are legco members, how do they not understand that this is against the rule or law? they're just barking dogs which make no sense. Why not have a public debate and it will be clear to the world what idiots they are!

No wonder this guy leads the journalism and media studies center of the HKU. That speaks of the chaos of HY and strikes me again that you can't argue journalist with prejudice and universality. if you have to, state the stats/facts and let the witness and history judge. Lesson learned, thanks Eric

India and China were about the same level in 1949 ( India may have been a bit better off). Now compare them in the 1978 and there is no comparison. So the first 30 years of China have advanced out of sight compared to its peers.Richburg's comment about his Chinese Student who were complaining about their access to buying a home where they would like! That's a first world problem. Most developing country students would be happy to get access to tertiary education, let alone a convenient housing. China is a developing country.

what is wrong with that black dude (not being racist here just I don't know is name). there is no discussion if he is holding the view that believe or anything else if fabrication, your data wrong, your analysis wrong; while he does not have any factual or statistics proof or analysis, he just has the conclusion that you have to believe otw you are wrong. with all due respect, it just smells as BS

It would be impossible for the black to come out n give credits to the Chinese government. May be he should speak more the rights n opportunities for the African Americans. Look at the percentage of black adults in incarceration in US..1000 people killed by cops.. like Eric said mildly is American govt n foreign policy should mind their own business and takes care of Americans.

First step to assure China's Growth was to protect it's sovereignty and from remaining an occupied colony like Africa. China's people paid a tremendous price. But as Li Eric said Deng Xiao Ping turned the ship to a prosperous direction but slowly slowly things were getting better, and maybe at one point the vessel was speeding too fast. The tolerance towards corruption / but same time high speed development. The back of the hand needed to be controlled. Whether it was right method or not , we will not know. Xi Jinping just had to do something and he couldn't chose two methods same time. The goal had to be clear, But maybe at some points he went to far. But it is the constitution of China, and it's going to stay that way "Nobody wants to be forced to anything But most people want to be influenced" But from China's point of view you must see it from China's point of view . Unless I am mistaken in the timing, some severe restrictions were taken in, after the start of trade wars. The threats and mumbles started to rise on the horizon when accusations of unsorted characters mostly based on ignorance about the Chinese people about a mixture of old colonialist xenophobia , envies to the progress figures reported from China. The Forum as it is, will not solve conflicts unless you state a demand about "what figures have relevance" So we need increase information, knowledge, inside insight. (I made my attempt to contribute since 16 years)
