12.20 seconds in AWESOME.... Takes me straight back to that period in time. The Thrash , Noise & that gorgeous traction motor whine! Gawd damn i miss those times.
Awesome video Jake but I wish you could get hold of a Tardis and ask your Dad to film more of the old DMUs accelerating out of the stations so we could hear those rasping exhausts again. Most of us weren't impressed with them then but we like them now.
Top video of these whistling beasts at work and we still got a few left as I thought more than 7 would have been preserved as they was popular locos like class 37s are I liked the split box 40s and central headcodes the best but great memories from a bye gone era 😎
Love those DMUs 6:05 - coupled up to a 'new' one lol 12:33 really is fantastic! I grew up in suburban Surrey so it was all DMU's and EMU's so we didn't travel on much diesel hauled stuff. I think the 40s are becoming a favourite. 15:55 day before my 12th birthday and 22:30 my sisters 16th birthday!
I really love the old diesel locos and am nostalgic in terms of all things railway but so much has changed in terms of emissions, noise and fuel consumption. Also of course a privatised railway.
This was generally the way some people got off in those days, it was worse in London at the terminuses as a whole carriage worth of doors would open at once still as the train was arriving at the platform and heaven help the passenger waiting on the platform who wasn't paying close attention I was told that the old slam doors on the old slam door trains weighed 200 weight,(that's old weights, pre metric ) anyway that would give you a fair whack if it caught you and possibly knock you off your feet equally very dangerous .Just so the business people can get to work that much quicker!!. Something wrong there somewhere me thinks .
Dearie me, Bolton looked a bit run down then. I like the Magical Disappearing Class 120 DMU. That must be a rare glimpse of a Class 506 EMU on video as well.

NICE TO SEE MODERN DAY LADS BEING INTERESTED IN TRAINS IN THIS HI TEC WORLD.

I've just realised that if you click on the time people have commented on, it takes you to that part of the clip! Mind blown.

The kid kicking the 40 at 00:41 was obviously a Duff fan who got bowled for haulage 😂
Manchester Victoria has been violated! The present state of the station is unacceptable without one through road for freight!
Sorry if Im being thick, but is that still Bolton with 40150 departing? Either way, those "Big D" Class 40s were just Hell Fire!!!
Yes, it is!
@jake atkinson Thanks Jake - is there any chance you can tell me what date & train 40150 was working in this video please?? (I may have been on it).
@@prof.hectorholbrook4692 it was 2J38, the 19.35 Blackpool to Manchester, August 1984. Will dig out the exact date.
Was that an old 100 class?
Any one of those lads at 12:55 could have been me. That was my time......
1m27s ginger nut with silver camera bag is me!😊
