A beautiful quartet. The Signum Quartet really do this 3rd Quartet of Maconchy justice. I only wish all of Maconchy's quartets were played live on here. X

Maconchy complete string quartets is a magical 3 cd set..now deleted but search ebay etc ..CADOGAN HALL CHELSEA WHERE THIS WAS FILMED..has vg acoustics..its lunchtime BBC PROMS were sadly missed in this year of COVID 19 2020 When the musical world we took for granted changed FOREVER
I would never have guessed the composer, who I associated with thorny music. This is lyrical and beautiful. It's hard to imagine a better performance. Time to search out the other quartets.
Yes, and the bottom line is that it is entertaining and mentally stimulating. What I call edible music. You can take nourishing bites out of it. When its finished the desire is to think about it (like something else important in life!) and have it again. The anticipation is as good as the consumption. The Cadogan audience manifestly loved it. Lovely rich rounded sound from the instruments.

I found the name Maconchy Elizabeth in a book about music. I'm not disappointed, this is a great quartet and a fine performance !
