The first mummy has been one of my all time favorite movies since I was a kid. I used to beg my dad to rent the VHS Everytime we went to the rental place. The owner ended up giving it to me as a gift. I will never be ashamed to admit that I can quote the entire movie by heart.
Finally found my tribe, I binged the Mummy, I was obsessed. It's honestly the reason I studied anthropology and wanted to be an archaeologist for a good chunk of my childhood. lmao please just review scorpion king hahaha
I can't believe that there are so many other people who were literally obsessed with these movies as much as I was! Me and my sister used to watch the VHS back to back for weeks on end! and these were the days that you had to wait for your movie to finish rewinding! LOLOL!
showgirls!!! i watched the movie just because of how much moviebitches mentions it so much and to my surprised they haven't done the review. i mean,it should be mandatory!
This is my FAVOURITE franchise! First one is iconic and The Mummy Returns is so campy and fabulous. I agree - I hope the new one is silly and fun rather than ~gritty~. Love your review (as always)!
hahahahah remember when movies used to not assalt your eyes with 15 cuts every 10 seconds? oh, the memories. This is all the fault of michaled bay and snyder.
Wet Hot American Summer is to Sleepaway Camp movies as The Mummy is to Classic Classic Monster movies. The story line is succinct, the action is well done and it knows what kind of movie it is. It said okay so we are doing a 1920's movie in 1990's perfect. Classic movies are still great today because no matter the action, film quality, FX the story is key. If you have a good story, everything else falls into place. Also quick question, is Michelle Yeoh on Fabulous Cunt Island?
Probably my fav review so far. I stand by Avaryl's statement about the Mummy. I will die protecting it. Also, please pleASE PLEASE review Seven Brides for Seven Brothers because it is a riot! I forgot which video you mentioned it but please do!
Not going to lie. I'm immediately disappointed this isn't a review for the latest one because I know hilarity would ensue. But I trust you bitches...so I'll watch. "Because that's what being privileged is all about!" - Camp Chippewa
PLEASE REVIEW GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE! PLEASE! PLEASE! - I re-watched it recently and I love it so much, with the classic white horses/white shirt seduction party scene I lived. And the line about gender roles!?!? It's a classic.
I can't believe you guys are reviewing The Mummy!!! I watched the third one last night and I was gonna recommend you to review this! Cause it's so campy and bad it's so good!!!
I LOVE these movies! I literally just watched them in preparation for Tom Cruise. I wanted to point out a moment in The Mummy Returns that made me die laughing. When Rick realized the scepter returned into a spear, it was literally like a comic strip! And when he kills the Scorpion King, the Mummy runs into frame 5 seconds later to dramatically yell, "Noooo!" Also, yesterday I decided to watch the 3rd Mummy movie for the first time. It was so cringy bad, I wanted to cry. One of the worst lines in the movie could possibly be between Rick and Alex (who no longer has a British accent) R" Look kid, I've put down more mummies in my time than you." A" You put down one mummy, dad." R" Yeah ... Twice." Oh god, it was horrible and made me want to cry for Brendan Fraser.
Omfg I loooovveeee these movies so fuckin much I literary screamed when I saw it on TH-cam. I was so happy when they said their favorite scene was the fight scene yaaassss
So excited that you reviewed this!! The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. And the second one is... definitely a guilty pleasure. But NO WAY better than the first. I mean you just can't top that!
I've got so many requests for this series but here's some I'd love to see: West Side Story. Cabaret. The Graduate. Harold and Maude. What's Up Doc? and Mary Poppins.
Th Mummy and The Mummy Returns?! I used to watch these aaalll the time. Wow nostalgia overload. They are good fun. The new Mummy movie looks so bleak in comparison. Christopher Nolanofied indeed. How much more muted color costumes and lofty dialogue must we endure before that trend will die? *sigh*
This is what they don't get with the new film. The point of the Brendan Frasier ones is that they were a template of the PoTC: evocative setting, pretty simple (identical) plot, magical curse, a love story, attractive, likeable characters and goofy action. It's just convenient that a 1920s film of this type would involve a mummy curse. Focusing on the monster part is missing the whole point.
The Mummy Returns - parents treatment of Alex is totally in the vein of the Egyptian Archeology Mystery Amelia Peabody Series. It's totally Emerson, Amelia, and Ramses! I recommend you read these!
This is a bit late but... Tom cruise was originally suppose to be in the 1999 role instead of brendan fraser, but he turned it down because he was working on Mission Impossible 2. Half the cast in the 1999 remake were 2nd and 3rd choices for those roles. And yea... the 1999 Mummy is the 4th remake of the Mummy movie.. Like... There was the original in 1911, a remake in 1932, and another remake in 1959. The reason they made the 2017 remake wasnt because they could, and it was an IP they could use... They remade it to reboot the Dark Universe. So many people think Marvel's MCU is the first movie franchise to use multiple characters from multiple movies... but... The Mummy was part of the original Cinematic Universe. Dracula Untold was suppose to be the first movie rebooting the Dark Universe, but it didnt meet Universal's box office expectations, so they tried again with The Mummy in 2017. Even though Tom Cruise was the original choice for the 1999 remake, he was then and still is now a bad choice for this franchise. His acting style and writing/directing demands do not fit at all with this kind of universe. Aaaaand it showed with the 2017 movie; it could have been so much better with someone else. But yea, nothing about the 2017 movie was "because we can", and "we have tom cruise", and "we have this IP.". There was a much more specific purpose behind all of it
The plot of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation is basically The Mummy. Lara Croft goes to Egypt and a Benny like character guides her to the tomb of Seth and she inadvertently releases Seth and sets of the apocalypse. And then the rest of the game is just her being a badass going from place to place in Egypt trying to stop the curse from completing and destroying the world. It's pretty fabulous. #OConnelSheBettaDont
When I first watched the mummy I had a rotating crush between Brendan Frasier and the American with Glasses, just found my old VHS player and my copy of the mummy and decided to watch it. When it came to the scene of them waiting for hamuatra something clicked, done a quick Google search realised he was played by Tuc Watkins. God he aged well. Well they all did. Also I think there should a collaboration with @deadmeat with for a kill count Avril and Andrew for the mummy and mummy returns. Don’t think it will happen, but it’s a dream
So, they are doing a new Mummy movie because of the project Dark Universe. Basically Universal Studios want to do a Marvel kinda like crossed universe between their monster movies with the Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein and a bunch of other old movie creatures that they own. (It's supposed to be very serious and not campy at all so... be prepared)
When I glanced at my notifications I thought this was a review for the new Mummy movie and I was gonna CALL SHADE for not seeing a Wonder Woman review from y'all first. Can't wait to watch this after work, though (I love these films)
It was soooo funny in the first movie, when they were mowing down those people in the car, the people were like DELIBERATLY throwing themselves in front of them. It wasn't like a mob the car monstertrucked through, it was a queue of people lining up to be rolled over the hood. Zombified or no, it still makes no sense XD
I would love to hear yalls review of Atlantis: the Lost Empire! The old Disney cartoon (the first one and only best one) :) It's one of my favorite childhood movie
so I go to watch the mommy dearest review and just discovered you already take request from viewers, so much for my groundbreaking advice, figured I'd come back to the comments and own my stupidity 😒💖
I saw the new one last night fully knowing it would be deliciously hot garbage and it did not disappoint. I cannot wait to see how much more on-fire the garbage can get with the other Dark Universe movies.
I love your movie reviews, but why don't you guys review current movies? I want to see you review the new Wonder Woman movie among others that are still in theaters.
Yes yes yes to everything! Gonna rewatch these now! Btw have you seen Bedazzled with Brendan Fraser? It's one of those terrible movies but I have a sweet spot for it
Guys review AI i remember that I watched it as a child and blocked it out for some reason. I think it gave me an existential crisis at aged 12 or something.
You know what we need, a good old new take on action comedy. Oh what's that? there is one? Yes? yeah, POWER MOTHERFUCKING RANGERS. Yeah, I said it, i'll fight you movie bitches that movie is GOOD.
I dont understand Studios being, OMG let do a dark sagas with Monsters with werewolf, mummy and vampire and i'm just like OMG WHO THE HELL CARE !!! they want to create Marvel universe but with monsters....
I don't think it's a ripoff of Indiana Jones so much as Indiana Jones was a prime example of a modern take on a historical/costume genre that is an imperialist power going adventuring in one of their colonies. It has its roots in pulpy novels that can be considered problematic nowadays e.g. Tarzan. The genre itself is referenced sometimes within other media; the first recent example that comes to my mind is in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic where Rainbow Dash gets really obsessed with the "Daring Do" books: mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Daring_Do
The first mummy has been one of my all time favorite movies since I was a kid. I used to beg my dad to rent the VHS Everytime we went to the rental place.
The owner ended up giving it to me as a gift.
I will never be ashamed to admit that I can quote the entire movie by heart.
I used to be ashamed to admit I watch these movies almost every day when i was younger. I am so happy i found my peoples!
- This is disagreeable.
- I concur.
Iconic
My only questions is HOW do you have The Mummy without Brendan Frasier???
Alex that's not the original Mummy you know
I actually didn't know that until like a week after it came out.
Finally found my tribe, I binged the Mummy, I was obsessed. It's honestly the reason I studied anthropology and wanted to be an archaeologist for a good chunk of my childhood. lmao please just review scorpion king hahaha
"cat...DUST!!!!...cat...DUST...cat... DUST!" WAS ROLLING over that segment!
I can't believe that there are so many other people who were literally obsessed with these movies as much as I was! Me and my sister used to watch the VHS back to back for weeks on end! and these were the days that you had to wait for your movie to finish rewinding! LOLOL!
Please consider one of your loop videos being 'cat...dust...cat...dust...' It's fucking fabulous.
i just wanna say that a one hour+ review of showgirls would be camptastic, make it happen plssss hahahaha love u guys
showgirls!!! i watched the movie just because of how much moviebitches mentions it so much and to my surprised they haven't done the review. i mean,it should be mandatory!
I agree with Avaryl. I will add that Short Round from "Temple of Doom" is the only good action movie child character.
I actually had forgotten of CGI Rock lmfao
I SAW THE 2017 VERSION TONIGHT AND THE MUMMY LITERALLY LOOKS LIKE ADORE DELANO
I fucking love the first one! It's just a stupid fun nostalgia ride! 😂
This is my FAVOURITE franchise! First one is iconic and The Mummy Returns is so campy and fabulous. I agree - I hope the new one is silly and fun rather than ~gritty~. Love your review (as always)!
This movie was my bisexual awakening. Rachel Weiz, Brendan Fraser? This. Movie. Was. Great.
hahahahah remember when movies used to not assalt your eyes with 15 cuts every 10 seconds? oh, the memories. This is all the fault of michaled bay and snyder.
I love the bob's burgers wine shoeholder hahah
these are my favorite movies of all time. this is why I have a weird fascination with dead things
I'm not sure how comfortable I am with films released in my lifetime being called retro 😖
This review is all I could ever hope for. I am so glad you started doing Retro Reviews
is there a possibility of ever getting a Bedazzled review? because i would in fact die

So excited that you reviewed this!! The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. And the second one is... definitely a guilty pleasure. But NO WAY better than the first. I mean you just can't top that!
Cats, dust, cats, dust... you guys are hilarious. I haven’t laughed so hard. Thank you!
I loved this movie so much I can legit recite the Egyptian dialogue verbatim! this was also one of the first movies I got to see in theater, too!
I've got so many requests for this series but here's some I'd love to see: West Side Story. Cabaret. The Graduate. Harold and Maude. What's Up Doc? and Mary Poppins.
Rachel Weisz has a new film out this weekend - My Cousin Rachel.
This was fantastic and hilarious! I love these retro reviews. Please, please review a Mel Brooks movie for one soon! 😫❤️
Well Lit Pyramid

I could listen to Benny yelling O'CONNEEEELLLLL~! all day long. XD
You guys didn't talk about the sexiest man of the movies The Mahjii warrior GOD DID I LOVE HIM 😍
I think a drinking game of the mummy (taking a drink every time someone says O'Connell) would prepare someone perfectly for the mummy returns :)
So the question is not whether or not you retro review Mrs. Winterbourne, but when. Soon pleaseeeeeeee
when they are fighting each other is the only thing that i remember that and the little gnomes at the end
The Mummy Returns - parents treatment of Alex is totally in the vein of the Egyptian Archeology Mystery Amelia Peabody Series. It's totally Emerson, Amelia, and Ramses! I recommend you read these!
...I'm kinda down for the movie with guys sitting in chairs with cats 😆
omg the intro.. im living

I love their edits! Makes for an entertaining review. Keep up the good work! 🤗🤗🤗

Guys, please please PLEASE do a sequel retro review of The Scorpion King and Mummy III!
I completely forgot about the third movie, and when you put some scenes on, I was like,
"Omg yeah, THAT happened. That was one of the worst."
Btw, I played the mummy in ps 1. Ooooh boy it was a whacky campy game. If you like getting punched by the mummy, you would like it.
Love this review and your channel!.. While we're talking about Rachel Weisz, review Constantine?!?! Oh pretty pretty please!!!
The video game clip montage just killed me lmao
When I glanced at my notifications I thought this was a review for the new Mummy movie and I was gonna CALL SHADE for not seeing a Wonder Woman review from y'all first. Can't wait to watch this after work, though (I love these films)

Literally they're remaking the mummy just cuz universal was about to loose the rights to their old monster movie collection the wolf man is next 😒
Turns out Andrew was right on the new Ummy
Great review mummy is the Best.

The theme of this review is fucked up sequels and shitty CGI. Amen.
