Train your dog to accept fireworks

  • This is the same training method that many people use when getting their dog used to the sound of gunshots.
This is a clip containing sounds of fireworks. In order to get your dog used to this kind of sounds you should play this clip as often as possible before for example New Year 's Eve. The trick is to start off with very little volume and then slowly increase it from session to session. Remember to not nurture your dog while playing this clip, instead act as normal as possible. Do the dishes, clean the house, read a magazine or something like that.
If you do this properly and thoroughly your dog should accept fireworks when it's time for the real deal.

If you want to find your dog's scare point just increase the volume. Then when you have found it, turn the sound back down. so that it is not bothering the dog. The whole idea is to de-sensitize the dog, not scare it shitless.
Gradually turn up the sound so that the dog gets used to the increasing volume.

Probably because he reacts to the lights, not the sound. Or because he's smart enough to hear the difference between computer sounds and outdoor sounds.

Thank you...very realistic sounds and works like a treat. This is just the first day and already I am seeing positive results.
It had gotten so bad that my dog would not want to go for a walk and there was little or nothing I could do to entice him out of the house. Slowly but surely he seems far more comfortable with increasing sound and is now starting to ignore the real bangs coming from outside.

Train your dog to accept fireworks: Thanks for this! Sounds real enough to unnerve Gimli and give him the shakes. Starting low and quiet with a comedy soundtrack playing overtop.

I am trying to train my dog to be my service dog and where we fail is loud noises. Most especially fireworks. He was barking at the ones outside. I have tried to treat him each time he hears them, to associate them with good (a treat), that failed and I think I may have been reinforcing the barking. I then would use our trained attention noise and treat him for putting attention on me and not it and then treat him after he relaxed. That was working, I think, but I can't keep up with it. This he started freaking out on anything but a level 1 volume on my phone. I made sure he was actually relaxing and not being flooded. He was able to take treats the entire time and wagged his tail. I didn't realize that he would get used to it as fast as he did. I played it 3 total times, as he relaxed and paid no attention to it I increased the volume one level. Then waited until he relaxed and paid it no attention to it and increased the volume one level. We got to the highest level the 3rd time around and he could do obidence. Now it's not on a PC and is just coming out of my phone but A: He did freak out the 1st time I played it higher than level one volume and B: Now when the real ones go off he seems less freaked. Now, the ones that go off right outside the house do sound like gun fire (like someone shot a gun in the house) but this did seem to help. I emailed it to myself to play during training sessions and I plan to connect it to my bluetooth speaker to let it play from out the door to hopefully desensitize him to the real thing. Those that are worried about flooding, if your dog can't take treats then they are too stressed. Also, if it is still too much, try it on something like a phone that has less volume. Also, those that are saying it is flooding in general, how do you think dogs are desensitized to gunfire? They are repetively exposed to it. To those that has dogs that pay it no mind but are still terrified of the real thing, try a bluetooth speaker where you can place it outside. Maybe try other fireworks soundtracks and suffle them.

Staying up trying to keep her calm. Funny thing today a little while ago i played this recording for her and I dont know if it worked but shes not shaking like she normally does. And shes 5yrs. old.I pray it did work!

Most recordings don't cause my dog to even bat an eye. She was VERY curious about this one, though- it is perfect to work with! I'll be using a good speaker (JBL Flip 3) to better simulate the low and high tones while keeping the volume at a very controlled low intensity.

Finally a dog owner who tries to prepare her dog for fireworks instead of trying to ban fireworks, you have my respect for this👍. Personally i only light fireworks on 31 december in my neighborhood because i live in the netherlands. And when on occasion i would light fireworks during the year i go to a remote area where nobody can hear it, and it works fine👍👏

I live in the netherlands too. Its gone crazy with fireworks! For people for animals, for the environment. It should be banned for ever! a remote area, where animals still can here everything, are stressing and are anxious!

This might help if you start the audio from 20 and every 1 minute turn the volume up by 10 until you get it to be the loudest it can :) x

Do you have full sound? Either the sound it not enough high maybe plug in the computer if you can to the TV and test with higher sound and see if there is any reactions. Also when the sound come at 12 have the dog inside and with music at high sound so it will cover the fireworks sound.
Maybe a tips to next year since this time is already over.
